It's used for massaging the horse's body to help with blood flow and warm up the muscles (used by professional chiropractors etc), stripping hair, washing the horses and removing the excess water after, grooming the horse (like a rubber curry) and can be used on the face. The name is very misleading but it was originally a massaging tool
