This is one of my favorite songs from "Hairspray" (the 2007 musical movie). I couldn't find a version on RU-vid that had subtitles/lyrics, so I added them myself.
Tracy's character was truly amazing. She didn't just claim to like black people and enjoy black culture but stand on the side when she witnessed the issues that black people face, she actively participated in trying to help them overcome these problems and for society to accept colored people just as they accept whites, even though it meant trouble for her. this is what needs to happen today; white people who claim to be against racism should be active in trying to help put an end to the prejudice and trials colored people face instead of just saying "it happened in the past, get over it". take note America.
So when I first watched this movie, this song got stuck in my head. That week at work I kept singing “the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice” randomly out loud . And one time when I did it this Black male customer heard me and said “dam right girl” smiled at me and left. I laughed like crazy. Such a great moment.
RedGangster23 me too coz my sis had a really large crush on Zac so we just kept watching. But I didn't understand it well coz I was like 6 or 7 yrs old when I first saw this

"I won't ask you to be colorblind", I love it. More problems could be fixed if we recognized, celebrated, and appreciated differences rather than hating or trying to ignore them.
mariaarakal yea, I’m a 13 yrs old girl and I’ve got the part as Seaweed, and my best friend is Penny. I don’t know how I’m gonna keep up with a legend Like Elijah Kelly.😂
I remember watching this when I was younger and just sing Little Inez's part over and over again. She just seemed so chill and cool to little, snow-white me and I wanted to be her lmao
Meagan Moura Hairspray Live was closer to the Broadway version than the movie. I think they're both charming in a way. Musicals are normally 2-3 hours long with the interlude... Movies are shorter and edited.
Lets all pay due props to the true icon of this film. Little Inez. She slayed literally every time. I love that she is the one who wins the Miss Hairspray pageant at the end instead of Tracy. She really was the most talented one.
Whoever was the casting director for this film done such a great job finding the perfect Tracy, link, penny and seaweed. Great cast! Full of talented actors, singers and dancers. My favourite musical ever😀😀
I'll never get tired of watching this hip video clip time and time again. The entire scene is extremely astonishing, dashing, and refreshing all the way. Both Elijah Kelley and Taylor Parks truly stand out in their very energetic, frenetic, and fantastic production number. I've to congratulate the choreographer Mr Adam Shankman and the song writers Mr Marc Shaiman / Mr Scott Wittman for their ingenious, meticulous, and conspicuous works so as to come up with completely fabulous song-and-dance sequences. Even if it took them and the entire casts two months to rehearse and to perfect all the musical scenes in the 2007 Hairspray, the outcome becomes heartily astounding, resounding, and rewarding. I can run and tell that Hairspray is one of the finest and greatest musical movies that I've ever seen.
I liked seaweed and penny relationship it's lovely but I will always love link and tracy relationship better cause of the fact he loves her for her qualities her self confidence her sense of humour and inside beauty and he doesn't care about her weight
This is one of my favorite parts of the movie because it shows exactly how different African American people were treated just for a living! This movie deserves all the hype it gets
Love this movie & love what Tracy stood for, standing up for what she believed was right, even though she knew the price she'd have to pay and the trouble she would be in as well as her family. She did the right thing and fought for justice and equality. This movie is epic!
A girl from my school (back when I was in high school) brought this movie on the bus for our class trip and I sang this. The girl was sitting next to me and said she thought I had a good voice. it made my day. Best song by the way.
Cha-Cha Copen help me. I’m a 13 year-old girl who is playing for seaweed in her school musical production, and my best friend is Penny. Hopefully we won’t have to do that bit....
when i was 10 my mom bought the dvd for my bday, and no joke, i would watch this movie like 20 times a day with no breaks lol 😂 like right when it ended i would replay the movie for the wholeeee day
Im stunned because ive seen this when i was little, but now that im older i can appreciate the capability in his voice, why don't we hear more from him my god!
I'm watching this now on vh1. Commerical break so I'm on here to watch this part again. Who else wish they can be in this movie it seem so fun. High school Musical type shit but not sugar coated.
