How to stop the slide in the Americas' poorest nation? The last time this show put the spotlight on Haiti was nearly three months ago. The capital had been overrun by gangs who had banded together against then Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who had just secured a deal to deploy a Kenyan-led international police force.

The only people "required" to do anything about this crisis are the Haitians because they created it. And just giving them more money without massive oversight (aka: international intervention) would be foolish unless we want to be right back here in a year.

Wow man what a brilliant insight. Foreign countries (the US) flooding the country with guns and money and giving it to crooks is a big cause of this whole fiasco. The guys who assassinated the last president were based in Florida. They SHOULD face reality and strike a peace deal with the gangs but I suspect they will try to conquer Haiti instead. We'll see if these Kenyans are really like that, I guess

There are many there that had not much to do with creating the problems, like women and children. We should just stand on the sidelines and let them suffer? Obviously if we go there, it's not because of we were responsible but because there is a humanitarian crisis.

The question that no one asked during the whole debate: What role should France play? Haiti has been independent over 200 years, perhaps they and you should stop blaming others for their poverty. Most countries that take responsibility of their own problems are able to bounce back in a few decades or so even from severe problems.
@StevenStrauchC
@StevenStrauchC 4 месяца назад
@@cyberfunk3793 You can't claim to know anything about Haiti's history without knowing that for more than a century after its independence, its growth was stunted by the crippling debt that was imposed on it by France. In 1825 France imposed an "indemnity" or debt of 150 million Francs to Haiti (equivalent to 21 billion USD in 2020). Haiti had to make some payments on that debt which were several times their annual revenue, and only finished paying it in 1947. It was 122 years of paying a debt that didn't allow it to invest in building its infrastructure or invest in education or health services for its people. No other nation in the americas gained independence under these conditions. Of course american investors and bankers also found a way to vulture on Haiti's debt, which contributed to it taking so long to be payed off.

The only suggestion that I have for this resolution is to try to negotiate with the Dominican Republic government who has done an outstanding job developing a civilized modern country that is prosperous. The DR is right next door on the same island and know the lay of the land better than any other outside forces plus the DRs proximity to Haiti makes it an ideal location to Headquarters and resupply… So Dominican occupation could be an ideal solution… the problem is those two countries don’t really have anything to do with each other and have almost no diplomatic relations with each other which is unique for countries that are so close to each other like that… Maybe the Dominican government might feel their country is fine the way it is and do not want anything to do with them…

I guess I shouldn't be shocked that your program goes 3/4 way to even discussing the Canadian part in Haiti Canada has spent Since 2022, Canada has committed more than $300 million in international development, humanitarian and security assistance funding to Haiti. plus an additional 300, million In addition, Canada is providing in-kind support worth $57 million to reinforce the HNP. Bob Rae spoke about the Canadian part in Haiti Canada has always wished for Haiti's stabilities would happen for them, by themselves. Canada hopes they can get to the point where they can elect their own leaders. Would the force that they want to create be able to speak Creole? Last I heard was 2 months ago, nobody is saying what will happen with Haiti, Canada will be involved in a combine way to solve it but it must come from Haiti to say what they want.
@stevenkraft8070

Are 2,000 or 2,500 international security forces going to be able to solve the problem? I would hope that they can secure the port and airport, but they may not be able to sustain that if those sites keep getting raided by the gangs and the international force gets tired of fighting that. Meanwhile you have this transitional council that doesn't seem to want to transition to a new reality, and is more concerned about each of them getting their 3 months as President than facilitating elections and a new government.

It’s a touchy complicated issue… if outside forces or nations attempt to seize power in Haiti then they would be condemned for oppression and tyrannical actions to clean up the country… If no one does anything then the world is blamed for being indifferent towards human rights abuses and crimes committed by gangs who control Haiti… You cannot use nuclear weapons to wipe Haiti because it is super close to the neighboring civilized prosperous country the Dominican Republic… So any wrong methods could potentially affect their peaceful country as well… It reflects poorly on people of color because it justifies French colonization because they can say that Haitian people are incapable of civilized existence by governing themselves.

Maybe the US just has Haiti fatigue. It’s one crisis after another, a constant money pit. They’re never grateful for help, they’re very entitled about trying to dictate terms while expecting others to pay the bills and do the heavy lifting. I’ve seen so many Haitians express indignation that the US and other western nations didn’t immediately, after Haiti gained independence, just rush to become friendly with Haiti. What did Haiti expect, they’d just slaughtered white women and children, often in gruesome ways. Of course western nations weren’t, especially back in that era, going to rush over to reward Haiti for such an action. I don’t know what’s so strange or difficult to understand about that. And for 200 years Haiti has been on the one hand crowing about kicking the French out while in all that time, never being able to become even a moderately successful nation. Phooey on the debt-other nations have climbed out of worse holes. And what does that have to do with the inability to at least establish stable rule of law? Also-Haiti itself isn’t pure. They invaded the Dominican Republic and occupied and oppressed it for years. They even committed some massacres, such as wholesale beheading of people of Moca and Santiago in 1805, when the Dominicans were trying to repel yet another invasion from the Haitians. Haiti, heal thyself. Or at least stop acting like the rest of the world owes it to you to do it for you, pay for it, and then get nothing but ingratitude in the bargain.
