This week, I'm sharing these delicious recipe with you macaroni au gratin or Mac and cheese 🧀
Here's the revised Haitian-style Macaroni au Gratin recipe with beef:
Ingredients:
1 lb (450 g) macaroni (elbow or penne)
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
2 cups (480 ml) evaporated milk
1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
2 eggs
2 tbsp butter
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 bell pepper (any color), finely chopped
3 cups (300 g) shredded cheese (Cheddar, Gouda, or a blend)
1 tsp salt (to taste)
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
1/4 cup (60 ml) ketchup
1/4 cup (60 ml) mayonnaise
1/4 cup (60 ml) mustard (optional)
1/4 cup (25 g) breadcrumbs (optional for topping)
Instructions:
1. *Cook the Macaroni:*
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. *Cook the Beef:*
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet with the beef, and sauté until they are softened (about 15 minutes).use your seasoning
3. *Prepare the Sauce:*
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
add garlic,milk, mixture into the saucepan and stir to combine.
4. *Combine Ingredients:*
Gradually add 2 cups of the shredded cheese to the saucepan, stirring constantly until the cheese is melted and the mixture is smooth.
Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder (if using).
Add the mayonnaise, and mustard (if using) to the sauce and mix well.
5. *Mix with Macaroni and Beef:*
In a large bowl, combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, mixing thoroughly to ensure all the pasta is coated.
Add the cooked beef mixture to the macaroni and cheese sauce, and mix well.
6. *Bake:*
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Transfer the macaroni and beef mixture to a greased baking dish.
Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheese on top. If desired, sprinkle breadcrumbs over the cheese for a crunchy topping.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
7. *Serve:*
Let the Macaroni au Gratin cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy it as a main dish or a side!
