It's probably him earning his self-respect, realizing the strength of his character and choosing to help uplift others that would push him beyond the line (such as showing how far Kamogawa's coaching can go, proving himself a good role model to his students as a boxer, etc.), rather than anything inherently violent or monstrous like that. It also kinda mirrors Mashiba in a way; Mashiba who used to rely on his own abilities had since learned to take in the support of the people around him and became a man beyond anything he could've hoped to achieved before, while also directly contrasting Miyata who has cut and severed all ties he has with Ippo to move on to the next stage of his career. In Ippo's case, he learns that his coach can't give him his answers all the time (just as how he saw Takamura adapt to Bison on the fly rather than waiting for the coach for advice) and starts thinking more for himself and earn his self-respect. We can also kind of see this side of him becoming more and more confident in a way; during Mashiba's sparring, rather than letting Mashiba berate Ippo for trying to get close to Kumi, Ippo brought it back to a slugfest with Mashiba and argued back, earning Mashiba's respect and appreciation. Then in the title match, when Mashiba looked at Ippo in the audience, rather than let himself be intimidated he shot back a thumbs up towards him p.s. I love how Takmura respects Kimura and Aoki despite his treatment of them, recognizes their unwavering ambition regardless of how much of a cannon fodder they are

Very beautifully written. You’re spot on. Ippo has some substance to him now. I love how he talks back to Mashiba now lol. And this side of Takamura never gets talked about. When he talked to Baron and Iga, he stood up for Aoki in the hallway. It shows he respects his peers for their ambitions and struggles. I look forward to seeing more of your thoughts.

when I read this chapter first I was more in the ippo mindset, but recently I saw a clip of Marvellous Marvin Hagler talking about his loss to sugar ray and how despite the result he knew in his heart he won and no one could take that from him - which is basically the takamura position.

Being fair, i would personally don't see Ippo as a monster, but more like a monster hunter. Humbling monsters to get their feet back to earth

@@Finn-wj8ct I like that one. The Humbler. But does it take a monster to beat a monster?
@Finn-wj8ct
@Finn-wj8ct 3 месяца назад
@@KingKoohii In normal hajime no ippo terms, yeah. However we have seen characters like wally almost taking over the world stage while being stated to be the "primordial hunter". It takes a monster to beat another monster, but it also takes a hunter to keep the wheel of fate balanced. In simple terms someone with enough capacibilities to be an monster, but a mentality that will push him to take his own path, a "monster hunter".. Mostly because it would be hella cool and unique lol
@Finn-wj8ct
@Finn-wj8ct 3 месяца назад
I honestly believe ippo is gonna do an speedrun towards the world stage once he comebacks, just like date once did. Because being honest he'll completely crush imai [actual japanese feather weigh champion], imai's boxing is like a more self destructive ippo when he was active, ippo will for sure see those mistakes as hes already been there. Imai doesn't stand a chance

My take is maybe after the Sendo Vs Martinez fight (I hope sendo will be okay after the fight) Ippo will eventually cross the line seeing that he has what it takes to take on Ricardo and he will have the "Monster" aura in him.

@@KingKoohii The thing is that Kamogawa developed his Iron fist in THE MOST DAMAGING AND DANGEROUS WAY POSSIBLE, making his fist literal glass cannons. Ippo will obviously not fall victim to the same, as he knows how to develop his fists in a safer manner.
