Those are his signature moves that he teaching him. So yea they look easy coming from him. And he stayed in good enough shape to be able to teach them to others
lol lebron got the athleticism but the dream is legit perfect and he's gettin older it's amazing how many pros still go to him cuz there's no one better
bep 2 u right Jordan never to go for help he had the bulls organization go get it for him in Pippen and Rodman possibly best trio in nba history Jordan got eliminated in the first round every year til he got them fake goat
@@caydenwright8074 he means Jordan never got a legend to train with but Jordan went to college lebron didn't so lebron had to play catch up when he lack a post game.
@@cowboyslakersraptors4life607 yea i hear that list all the time but when people actually talk about it,his name never comes up,i have him in front of all of those guys
The fluidity of Hakeem is unmatched. Even at almost 50 years old here, his moves are so much snappier and sluid than a young LeBron. Just goes to show Hakeem's speed of thought. He already had his move and counters thought out before the ball even touched his hand, so as soon as he gets the ball, he's already putting you in the blender.
Seems he had a little trouble articulating the moves the difference between him and bron here early was visualisation of a defender. Lebron was adapting the moves as if he was unguarded. But you can see how good bron is at learning once he figures it out. Dwight Howard looked lost with the post training
Man Hakeem is technically one of the best to ever play the game, and it’s great to see how Hakeem at the age of like 45/50 is so nice and available to other players that want to improve their game.. He has no personal interests in helping LeBron, that’s just greatness
I'm still here in 2019 jaw dropped at how perfect Hakeem was in the post and how quick LeBron picked up these lessons. Always amazing to watch a good teacher with a good student.
Donal Thoms-Cappello its funny to watch a Nigerian 🇳🇬 who only played volleyball & soccer most of his whole life then basketball teach a kid who only knows basketball his entire life! Man I love motherland! I’m from Lomé, Togo 🇹🇬 West African baby The Dream Lives
@Marvin Reid it's about comfort level in the mid to high post and LeBron has a sweet turn around in the mid post. So FOH with your BS ignorant comment.
by the footwork alone you can judge how smooth hakeems motions are. The spin moves and the fadeaways really would dominate any defender in the nba today.
+evilhomer450 oh yeah. but at least he is practicing and you can see him going in to the post alot more in-games, shooting fadeaways etc. I think driving to basket every time is taking its toll especially now when he isent in his twenties.
I remember hearing about this in the offseason after Miami got embarrassed in the Finals Vs. The Mavs. I thought this spoke volumes about how serious Lebron was about winning titles. No ego, just seeking out an all-time great to add another dimension to his game. Just had this feeling he was about to take it to another level and start winning rings. Sure enough, 3 of the next 5 NBA titles. Had Kyrie and Kevin Love not gotten hurt in 2015, it would have been 4 out of 5.
@@gucciak-4740 EXACTLY LIKE HOW ARE YALL NOT REACHING OUT TO GREATS? guys like ben simmons and rudy gobert should always be improving like this. not going to open gyms
his reverse pivot and swing thru is a clear travel. i mean, it is if they call it anyways. can't lift the pivot foot until the ball has left your hand on the dribble. it's one of the most fundamental least subjective calls in the game and it seems only rarely applied on these kinds of moves by big men.
@@miles6910 4:15 you can't lift off your pivot foot means you can't lift it off the ground completely, but you can use that foot to make rotations whether it's a quarter turn or a half turn, so that move is not a travel, you can rotate on your pivot foot
I have said that since they played against each other. Everyone always puts shaq over hakeem in all time rankings, but every time they played against each other he would take it to shaq. I mean he would absolutely dominate shaq at times, even in the finals. Who honestly thinks that shaq could have taken that rockets team to back to back titles? I mean for real. If shaq hadn't had so much help from the refs, played with penny, kobe, and d-wade, he wouldnt have near the titles or numbers. Hakeem didn't have to have an all time great wing to win a title. He did it with a bunch of role players
He didn't "own" Shaq lol. Their numbers were almost identical in the 95 finals. 32&11 to 28&13. Tue difference was the supporting cast. Houston's showed up, Orlando's didn't. People like to remember 94 & 95, but forget all the years he came up short. He did win a title without another all star, but they were also playing the Knicks, who had one star as well. And please don't give me Charles Oakley was an All Star that year. He put 11 points a night and was only on the All Star team because the East was absolutely dreadful at PF.
@@josephjohnroe3678 and who's supporting cast would you rather have? Penny was a GREAT player at the time. Grant was an all-star. Nick anderson was really good. Houston basically had a bunch of roll players, so that should tell you who was better. You can't just look at offensive numbers. Hakeem was an absolute beast on defense
the most impressive part of hakeems movements is that there is no wasted effort. every move, fake, hesitation is designed to get the opponent off balance and give urself the best opportunity at a good look. each of his steps are with purpose to create space between him and his defender. no needless movements, no tiring musle man nonsense. just pure fundamentals.
His style is basic gamesmanship. He is hitting you with a 50/50 is he going to fake or no. Then with his finesse he can throw in multiple pivots and hit you with that same 50/50 three times. If you bite in one of them he will score. That's why I love Hakeem, he is a pure skill player and dominated his contemporaries (who were the best centers ever) with the talent he had between his ears rather than in his legs
@@stayhonest like age is a factor in a non demand league. Get real, since the end of hand-check era, usa team lost 2 gold medals while having full teams with pros. Conclusion? The league is soft and i asure you some of the "old" legends would get good points. You saw how Hakeem moved at 50. He can't play for 20 minutes but at 50 he would drop 17/20 in 15 minutes with ease.
@@Hinshu85 one of the dumbest comments I've read. Saying the NBA Is non demand league is laughable. Playing over 80 games a year with more running because of the pace the game is played at now it's almost a joke to even say a 50 year old man could keep up. Also the times we lost gold in the Olympics we had HORRIBLE pros that went and played at the Olympics before the dream team USA lost the Olympics a lot and is why we started bringing our best hence the dream team.
When we talk about dominant players in the last 35 years, we hear MJ, Shaq, Lebron, Tim Duncan, and Kobe mentioned all the time. But Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon 2 Time NBA Champion, former Defensive Player of the Year, NBA Finals MVP who OWNED Shaq (Shaq’s own words) and every other big man in the league is criminally left out of the conversation.
I come back to watch this at least once every 2 months and even after seeing it so many times I’m still amazed at hakeems agility and dexterity at his age - just goes to show what an athletic phenomenon he was in his prime
This improved my game so much back in 2013, I'm re-watching it as a refresher 8 years later because I feel like I forgot a couple of details... Thank you for keeping this video posted.
John Mac smoothness and speed are two different things. Lebron isn't a smooth player.......he is bruiser. I wish I see him use these moves more often in games though.
Bol needs to seek him out and learn how to be a pro, and a go to shot. like a jump hook in the post. Bol is Dinka so he'll never be thick. I see him playing more forward so gaining more strength is more important than weight.
It's so strange to me that these guys don't hit up the greats. No one does Kareem's skyhook... Like it's sad. That as a fan you clearly see that if someone learnt it they would be unstoppable like he was. Bol bol should call up kareem then go call up dirk. Then go call up A.i to teach you how to cross people. Man how to bigs leave the NBA and still can't dribble.... Idk I just feel like 90% of these players aren't doing shit when they could be stars if they really wanted too
Hakeem foot work is flawless, it's no coincidence that Kobe also worked with him had that same kind of footwork. Over the years we've seen LBJ execute these post moves in real games action.
No you're wrong. Not football. I think it was volleyball. He started training for basketball, then 5 years later he's In the NBA. That's how amazing he is. He must be a genius
No, Hakeem was originally a team handball player in Nigeria. Check it out ... (other teams) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-odvocVSnaAU.html
This is absolutely fascinating to me. Lebron is such a student of the game and hakeem has turned into one of the best teachers the post position will ever see.
its because kobe had these sessions with hakeem and lebron just followed the footsteps.. btw kobe did this with ease, still, not as good as hakeem though
The science behind The Dreamshake. He’s so beautiful. His game so smooth and graceful. At a time when the game was dominated by great centers he was hands down the best. All those fast post moves AND could bounce away and make a 20ft fade away jumper.
Imagine being such a great player that when you retire, one of the best players ever to live while still in his prime, comes to you so you can train him to continue and help him be the best player ever to live, At the same time, using your moves, you taught him to perfection to continue to climb that mountain Rushmore list! That has to be a great feeling
They were going through the motions.... I mean why would they be going full speed when hes teaching the technique... As a student you go through the motions until it because natural...its natural for Hakeem Lebron was learning the move now that he has perfected it we see in his game today at a much faster speed...
he looks like he could still play competitively which is amazing for his age, but i think the main thing tha twould give him problems is the long schedule. its a lot easier to look good at a relaxed pace for a few sesssions than it is on a 82 game schedule. still impressive though
8 years into his career, Lebron had NO POST GAME amd it cost him a ring against the Mavs. Sought out Hakeem to help rectify his shortcomings. SMART MOV3
Hakeem had great footwork because he played soccer growing up.. that requires a ton of footwork.. I think this really emphasizes the need for cross sports for young kids.. cant be just uni sport.. cross sports is good training overall
@@scotty213ful it has nothing to do w/ experience. bron just isn't a fluid athlete. super athletic, but stiffer/sharper type movements. whereas kevin durant is an extremely fluid athlete, while he's clearly not as athletic as bron.
Hakeem was the best big man ever, speed foot work and skill and power! The guy was phenomenal and got better as his career progressed. I enjoyed watching him torch guys
With the first pick of the 2021 draft, the *insert team here* select Akeem Olajuwon from some random gym in Texas. The Dream looking smooth as ever in this clip, thank you RU-vid for showing me this video 7 years after someone decided to upload it. Better late than never 🤷🏾♂️
Well you have several players in history of basketball that have experience in soccer growing up. All of them tend to have alot better footwork than typical bball players that never played soccer..
I'm a power forward in a point guard's body, and watching this video has helped my post game exponentially. The Dream is still the best athletic center of all time in my opinion.
Hakeem will be one of them. He gotta pay the money tho. He probably work on low post improvement by year 3 or 4. Right now, he will out athlete everyone.
At this very moment I am watching the Lakers @ Boston on TNT. It's only the first quarter and I've seen Lebron use Hakeem's post up baseline move two times. The first time he kept the ball and scored on a reverse layup. The 2nd time he recognized the defense and made a pass along the baseline to the coffin corner which resulted in an assist on a made 3-point shot. Lebron, one of the greatest students of the game, continues to utilize lessons he learned from the Master, Hakeem Olajuwon!
Just got through watching Lakers at New Orleans, Sunday March 1st. Once again I could see LBJ using the "signature" moves that he learned from Hakeem. Of course, he didn't do it EVERYTIME he posted up. But there were specific times down the court where I could easily say "That's one that he learned from Hakeem." It's a signature flow of motion that is clearly visible. And in this game LBJ was killing people. I saw him use a couple of moves AND some of the counter moves that Hakeem was demonstrating in the video. And while his footwork was no match, he was extremely effective! He even did it a couple against Zion, one on the baseline and another one in the paint. The young man couldn't do anything about it. At least not on those occasions. As a huge fan of Hakeem, it was a beautiful thing to see.
I hated Olajuwon for a long time just because he decimated my childhood idol Patrick Ewing and my hometown NY Knicks in our only legitimate opportunity to win a title in my lifetime. As I've gotten older I've learned to appreciate this Mans game and Skill set. I'll still never forgive him for dunking on Ewing like 90 times lol
Cypha Are yoo I'm with you on that fam. I'm a die hard Knicks fan and I remember watching that as a kid. But Hakeem was a different breed and he's one of my all time favorite players
Man that was a great 7 game series. Hakeem was just too much at that time. I was 18 at that time in Houston. I remember thinking that other teams had to hate Hakeem because he would just make these impossible moves. Always good to hear some people appreciate him that hated him at once. lol
