I use this iron and I agree the cord is not long enough. I use a 10 foot cord and I set the temperature just a little under the 360 Celsius.

Exactly! Great to know that a 10 foot cord works well! Thanks for sharing and watching!

Just purchased the 601. Have a Weller from 15 years ago. So I start soldering (without reading any directions of course or getting on RU-vid) and get slightly upset that foil is pulling away. Duh, I’m increasing temp when I should be turning it down. My fault. Thanks for great video!

I'd use a heavy duty extension cord not one of the cheapie flat cords for lamps.

I have the Hakko FX-600 US version as mine has a three prong plug in with a ground and the sticker says 120V - 74W - 60HZ. I think there's Japanese version FX-600 that have just a two prong plug in and has less wattage.
@ARTyRV
@ARTyRV Год назад
Yes, this does have the 3-prong as well.

What I found with my Hakko is, don't think the dial temperature is accurate out the box - you need to go to a middle temp dial setting, then use a high reading thermometer to check the tip temp when the blue LED flashes. If it's not matching the dial setting, get a tiny Philips screwdriver and turn the small blue screw in the handle until it reaches the matching temperature. That calibrates it.

Definitely! Calibrate the iron to your working temp. Thanks for watching!

I need a new iron. .. struggling between this one and the Weller 80 watt because I only work with copper foil, hobby came, zinc. I said to myself. “ Self, if the Streeters would only give their opinion of the Hakko, I would go with their judgement.” And Looked through your videos, and BAM!… Decision made, ordering a Hakko today!! Would you please comment on the 601-1 opposed to 601-2 please? I’m hearing something about difference in it being used in Japan, the volts, or plug???? Like they are 2 different irons for 2 different markets??? Thank you in advance for your help with this!!

Hi Carla! These are the irons we recommend. The Hakko Iron link is directly from the Hakko Store and A-Rated! www.amazon.com/shop/artyrvglassstudio/list/BVJTO1U67S5S?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsfartyrvglassstudio_NQ6A408CT9JATAM3FPKP

Is it ok to solder over an old piece that’s sat for over a year old?
@ARTyRV
@ARTyRV 4 месяца назад
You must remove dirt, polish, patina and oxidation first. Gently.

That little piece is to move the temp control.

Thanks! Yes absolutely.We finally figured that out. It wasn’t in the literature so we were mystified. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Use their tip tinner Pretty sure it’s pronounced HAK- KO Not hey-ko Use 380° for lead free
@ARTyRV
@ARTyRV 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching! Tip tinner is not needed. The iron tip will last longer if you keep your tip clean while working.

When there's two consonants, you put a pause in, so it's pronounced as Haa_ko "_" denoting the pause. But since we're speaking English I normally just leave the pause out.
