Thanks! :) Now I'll go boot up an old slug in our attic and defraggle it. I hope for the best. It has slowed down a lot. I've even wiped away some garbage in hidden folders, but nothing has made big difference.
I haven't tried Defraggler but I have heard good things. I use a program called Smart Defrag 2 in conjunction with CCleaner to keep my laptop running fast. I had used Tune Up Utilities but I didn't want to keep purchasing the updates. I also think I might have the same laptop as you. I am rocking an Acer Aspire 5820T. I would also recommend as a hard drive update the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Hybrid SSD it's a good mix of speed and space and I haven't need to defrag as much.
You can kill startup applications with msconfig really easily. Run > "msconfig" as Administrator and check out the Startup tab. I do this on all the PCs I service.
Registry cleaners suck. Don't run them unless you really know what you're doing and know how to set it to run correctly. I work as a tech and you would not believe how many systems I've seen ruined (needing a reinstall of the OS) by users running registry cleaners w/o knowing what's going on under the hood.
Win machine is not a good idea on your mom computer u should install ubuntu on it so you don't have to clean registry cleanup file, and anti virus update, so you will give more time to your mom than your mom computer.
@modelearth think Darren wouldn't like that, she is already the victim of chronicly virgin hormone bombs doing hak5 and haktip let alone if she would model.
