To everybody who asked for it: At the moment, this has to be downloaded from RU-vid. There are plenty of websites/programs for that. Then, it has to be imported to a screensaver that can play video. For "SaveHollywood" on a Mac, the 4K-video has to be converted to "H264" before it will work.

I'd pay $100 to have this back as a screen saver. Never knew I'd lose it when they killed Flash.

Even though the screensavers don't seem to be available anymore, I'm still happy the project is being worked on through these remastered videos of them. These are such COOL animations! Thank you!

I am just truly blown away. I know how much time and effort went into this. I have a wide curved computer screen with a HAL 9000 exact scale red led camera panel attached to one side. The kit for this is made by Mobius Models. They also offer a memory sound car and speaker to store HAL's voice.

This is truly a work of art. I saw the film originally in Cinemax in Indianapolis in its initial release. The film helped me choose a career path and provided me with an answer to the question: "What is your favorite movie?" Your work is an inspiration.

This is absolutely fantastic and obviously took ages to do, a real labour of love and a wonderful homage to the film. But it does make you think that these screens as originally created for the movie were actually done on film, which was back projected onto the display screen on the sets. The amount of time and attention to detail that went into creating 2001 A Space Odyssey was staggering. I still watch this film and am how prescient it was. Compare the scenes in the Orion spacecraft going to the space station, with the crew just monitoring the VDU's, to the video of the people in the SpaceX Crew Dragon! They're pretty much just passengers as well, with nothing to do but watch the display screens while the computers do everything else! 2001 was so far ahead of it's time.

I had the original saver downloads from the website and had them saved in multiple backups for fear of loosing them, especially after everything shut down. Then the screensaver became unplayable due to Adobe shutting down flash... that was a sad day for sure. Out of the blue I make a quick search and found this ! THANK YOU !!! And in 4K to boot !

I think this is AMAZING, but I'm a little disturbed that one would spend so much time on this. Ideally, if you built a full-scale spacecraft cockpit, these could run in loops on all the monitors! I'm sure one of you intends to do exactly this!

As said elsewhere, the graphics seems to be right out of Rosenblatt's "The Perceptron: A Probabilistic Model for Information Storage and Organization in the Brain" (1958). I'm shure Kubrick studied the report (basically the first baby step in neural networks, upon which HAL is built according to the novelization, although the method of backpropagation "learning" would only come later, more in Schmidthuber's "Annotated History of Modern AI and Deep Learning") punted the paper to the arts department and said "I want something like this!!". (And diagrams of orbitals can be found in "Gradient Theory of Optimal Flight Paths" by Henry Kelley, October 1960. It is unlikely that Kubrick consulted that one though, it is related to Rosenblatt's paper by a reference in the future, but he may have found the ARS Journal in which it appears)

Getting conflicting information about what font it is that HAL uses on his screens. Some say it's Manifold while others say it's Eurostile Extended Bold. It could be different in the sequel 2010, which I am also trying to find out about, but the info I did find says it's the same font as the first movie. Can you do a little ELI5?

I hope Trumbull gets to see this. By the way, Anthony Master's production design for 2001 is a special effect by itself. The pod bay, the Aries interior, they are transporting in a way I never experienced before. By the way, I saw 2001 in Cinerama 5 times.

Hey, this is fantastic! Is it possible for you to make a playlist of all the seperate animations w/o sound/glow? For those of us on a mac, we can simply add them to the Aerial screensaver.

Like hypothetic ones that would have been displayed on screens after the demise of Hal, approaching Jupiter and so on? I think it could be great and add something new :)

This looks amazing. For quite some time I am delaying windows updates, not for a small part to keep my old HAL-project screensaver. Having a flash-free .scr would be amazing. Until then: Is there a relatively easy way to turn this video or the playlist into a screensaver with multi-monitor support, ideally with every monitor showing a different display? Running the old version on two monitors with different displays is makes it thrice as nice to watch. (Downloading the videos is not the issue, but all I can mange after that is displaying on one of my monitors, which is just not as satisfying.)

I'm very curious what font was used for the console text? The title cards look to be some form of Eurostile, but I can't identify the other text - the old-style number figures are positively gorgeous.

I was seventeen the year 2001 was released so, old guy, barely able to operate his computer. How do I make this my screensaver?

There appears to some '"crackling" artifacts/anomalies in the sound/audio, Possibly due to looped audio? It's quite loud and prominent when these sound crackling artifacts happen. Background engine sounds needs to be tweaked/corrected some more. Until this gets fixed, I have to either lower or mute the sound to minimise risks of damaging any of my various speaker systems. Other than this, this 4K recreation of this very popular screensaver is nothing short of fantastic and a miracle of work and dedication from its designer and developer.
