Last week, our eager footsteps led us into the lively atmosphere of Newton Food Centre, Singapore's first hawker centre, designed and built with a garden setting that complemented its "garden city" image. Our visit aimed to experience the culinary wonder that is Jian Fa Seafood BBQ. Nestled in the heart of Singapore's bustling central region, this hawker gem beckons just a 5-minute stroll from Newton MRT Station, promising a symphony of delectable Chinese Zi Char flavours.
As we settled into our seats, the air around us buzzed with the tantalising aroma of barbecue and the cheerful chatter of fellow diners. Amid lively conversations, the ambiance transformed into a celebration of familiar and new faces - a joyful toast to friendship and the anticipation of an incredible dining experience.
Our gastronomic journey kicked off with an enticing array of local delights, featuring crispy Fried Baby Squid and Calamari, Sambal Stingray and Mussels, Salted Egg Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Steamed Sea Bass, Oyster Sauce Kailan, savoury, rich and flavourful Chilli Crab, Fried Rice, and not forgetting their house specialty - Tiger Prawns.
