Really cool video and some great research! I wonder if the actual composition of the foam matters? Some seem to have the same foam density under the microscope, but are more rigid when you bend them in real life. Maybe it's just me?
I also think you may have interpreted your results with an implicit bias. When and where does the smoothness of the dart and the density of the foam have anything to do with the actual quality of the dart? Unless you can prove a link for either one, it doesn't matter. Shape of the foam on a macro level is very likely more important than density or "smoothness" ESPECIALLY the latter. Density would make more durable darts, yes, but would also shift the balance point, possibly even to the point of hurting accuracy.
I have to say I recently bought the GOS darts and was not impressed by their glue. Over half the darts I’ve shot the heads come off on first impact. I do however have a bucket of dart zone max and 2.0 darts that are a year old and still have the heads on and still shoot just as good as new. I do like the worker gen 3’s but the heads on them are hit and miss, some last a while but others only a shot or two until the heads come off. I do like pretty much any “cooked” dart as they are the most consistent in FPS in my testing.
WOW, I'm suprised by it.. I must have bought over 4000 and they were pretty much Perfect. ! thing, when I received my Unicorn, it was packed with cheap GOS Looking dart that had super bad glue... they were the only one that failed the glue test...but they didn't come from Black Raisins
I did several Glue test...from different boxes, they all come Pretty Good. I'll make more Test with the Newer GOS(RED) when I receive them...But for Everyone I know who bought them, they love them...we have thousands in our club bin, as they endup the Longer lasting Dart amongst all brands we use.@@nateswineford2150
Very interesting to explore microscopic proprietaries but for their actual purpose isn't relevant at all for numerous reasons. Even firearms ammunition manufacturers don't bother with it(they do for the powder and primer, but the bullet only need thight tolerance precision) That being said, if you really want to compare darts on this level you have to enter a whole lots of others factors in, like: quality of materials method of manufacturing type of foam overall weight weight distribution type of heads quality control elasticity ratio compression ratio, and so on! Smoothness and "density"(you have raw density as you showed and also molecular density which is completely different) alone aren't relevant like the worker HE doesn't show much density compared to the DZ max because they use different type of foam and manufacturing methods meaning it doesn't need that much density to achieve a much sturdier dart in the end
@@thatoldnerfguy not familiar with those. I mostly use worker HE bamboos (because they're still 1g darts and gets its higher velocity by reducing point of friction) and non-bambooed HE for 300+fps (at that velocity it achieves a point of diminishing returns and the rings on the bamboos deteriorate the accuracy) I've seen worker launched new heavier and lighter darts, can't wait to try the 1.2g in my Sabre Ultima!
@@thatoldnerfguy oooh no, I did had some GOS, those are from black raisins, right? I did get the yellow foam with UV tips.. worst pieces of shits I've ever tested 😂 they surely completely changed them because there's no way you would've like them so much hahaha they acted like nerf elites even with scar/bcar 🤣 Edit: also they're lightweight, which I really don't like for range and accuracy
I think this needs to be combined with other tests e.g weight, cost, chrono and range. Especially as when it comes to smoothness I'm not sure if that really improves aerodynamic performance. As for foam density that potentially increases weight whichay or may not be a good then depending on what fps you're using
The Dart Zone Max Dart is a great dart, and the flight compared to the Xshot half dart IS superior. I actually did my own comparisons against those 2 since they look SO close to each other.
TBH, I haven't seen any really difference in behavior between X-Shot and DZMax... I do prefer the Heavy head on the X-Shot...but unfortunately sometimes the head is off-centered making the darts fly weirdly, but again, this is true for any darts.
