Hey guys, I'm remaking this video. It'll have talking and the production quality of my newer videos. It should be out in the next week or so! Make sure to subscribe and turn on notifications so you don't miss it!
@@Mabra51 Might be hard to imagine but some of us only play a half life game once and move on and don't get fully engrossed in the world. Crazy but not every human is you
are you inspired by kliksphilip’s style? like font and what not? i mean u used his dads music too. i like it though. simple at its best, guess it can’t get any better.
I would like to note how similar the Ordinals are to the standard over watch soldier- as well as how similar their unused resound are to HL2’s shotgunner and Elite in coloring. I’m pretty sure that they were originally going to be the default combine soldier before the grunts were added. Lore-wise, I’m pretty sure that they’re a standard overwatch soldier, put in charge of the grunts to keep them in line in the quarantine zones.
My guess is that this is a experimental combine division that bridges between CP's and overwatch soldiers, sadly it seems that the division was disbanded
I imagine it’s like a combine swat team, from civil protection a person might get promoted to grunt for some experience and the next promotion might be based on what they’ve shown to be good at or choose to become a soldier. Since HL2 has Gordon I like to think Breen said fuck the swat send the troops
I have always been in love with the way the combine sound. The voices are wonderful, and their AI behavior has always been adding when you compare them to games released around the same time as half life 2 was. I also enjoy how in Alyx, they are pretty much in their infancy, being simpler and less complex than in Half Life 2.
You forgot to mention that when you look at the charger while his shield is up he can flashbang you, blinding you for a second while leaving a blob-like effect on your eyes
@@privateger for some reason it seems that its being a lot more used or automated since I've started to see this even for some older music albums. Either way I'm not complaining since it's bloody nice
This is a pretty dope video, all i would say is to maybe provide a bit more background info on them and to showcase the model entirely. My favorite thing about this video are the small voice clips you added and it really helped paint the individual combine.
I like the fact that the combine grunts go "uhhh" when considering their next words. It drives home the fact that despite their physical (and in this case, slight emotional) changes, they're still very much human.
Couple more fun facts: The additional skins for the Ordinal are from the temporary models used for all the different units. The skins are broken, though, as they're designed for a remake of the original hl2 Combine Soldier, of which we can find with a missing body texture inside the game files. The Combine Grunt also comes in a variant where in which their eyes are yellow instead of blue. The Suppressor's eyes were changed late in development from blue to yellow, and they were also seen using a heavy shotgun like the charger, probably temporary. In my own experience, I've also found that their eyes turn red if they're shot in the head, although that could easily just be a blood splatter and not intentional design. There was a cut 5th enemy variant named the Combine Recon which somewhat resembles the Grunt in having a jumpsuit as opposed to armor. They also have a large backpack, a number of smaller packs all over their body, and some sort of tube that would have extended from the top left of their torso near their heart into their backpack. They would have used flares, presumably to indicate to others that they've found Alyx, as indicated by a number of particles in the editor. Hopefully we'll learn about them when The Final Hours of Half-Life Alyx releases.
I think it's interesting that the combine are likely heavily modified / mutated human beings? There's a part in the majn campaign where you find some detached combine eyes, and judging from the empty eye sockets on their faces I'd assume that they are able to plug in different eyes for different purposes. For example the eyes on the suppressors are super far apart which makes me think that they're for long distance.
They seem to have tiny cameras replacing their eyes, and their skin looks grey. They also seem to have some sort of metal plate bolted into their skull, maybe for increased durability?
Damage level 0: Damage level 1: oh I guess he lost a respirator Damage level 2: ah so this is where overwatch elites come from Damage level 3: sweet mother of god holy shit wtf omg wtfff bbq Damage level 4: I was expecting the same picture but with the head completely photoshopped out lol
These models are superbly detailed. Imagine how much more detailed they could be in a non-VR game where you don’t have the VR simulation eating up resources.
i love how realistic the game is like how the combines are usually in squads with a leader, a heavy/supressor and infantry, and how the combine are unorganized when you kill the leader. and how realistic enemy tactics are like a supressor raining bullets onto your position as grunts move forward gaining new ground.
I don't think the captains have pulse rifles since they look too small, they are rather pulse carbines. Well put together video otherwise, though the speed at which the differences change is too slow, this is a video after all you dont need to elongate the images at that extent since people could pause to look as much as they want.
Lol, I'm so used to how 3kphilips video thumbnails look, and yours is mildly similar looking video, glad I stopped by to watch it though keep up the great work!
@@darthlordrevan8307 think it would make alot of sense. Metro police follow and pursue Gordon all the way up until he escapes into the outlands. Wouldve been nice to see at least some scenes where alyx is pursued by the police. But they just went with sending in what essentially is their army against someone who up until that point wasnt assumed to be a major threat competitive to Gordon Freeman.
Just saw on VNN that there were retextures for the normal HL2 combine, would be cool if someone could get those textures onto the HL2 overwatch to see what they had planned.
In the HL2 beta the Combine had their own militia that wore regular OD or coyote brown fatigues and PASGT helmets, were armed with AKs and OICWs and rode in BTRs and Hind helicopters. They were lower ranked than Civil Protection.
I really enjoy watching this kinds of stuff! Subbed in case in the future you'll post more videos like this! Also you remind me of MarphitimusBlackimus :)
This dudes here are for the quarantine zone and not the actual urban dudes u see in hl2, that just means we're getting closer to see the actual combines.
I love how they added rankings to the soldiers. Makes them way more authentic and believable. These are two very different things to compare the each other, but it reminds of me ww2 soldiers who had all their rankings and positions. I just. Omg this whole thing is so good.
I do like this video and I thought it was quite interesting (perhaps a few clips of them in game would be nice) I also believe that maybe smoother transitions between the text changing so the viewer can noticeable see when the text changes rather than having to pause the video and check, but still was a good video.
Damn, this is a fine ass chanell, it appears you are the 3kliksphilip of Source 2! Shame I can't watch too much because of spoilers, still havent played HL:A :(
I love them in half life Alyx they are so fun to fight because they act and move and speak and react to you like real people do and it’s fucking awesome get this VR game for the index.
I remember my reaction to the first combine charger you go against lol. I was thinking “There’s no way he’s going to just come up to me, he’s probably going to stay by or behind cover, like the grunts i’ve already faced... against...” and at that very moment they turned the corner i was behind, and i was met with a very nice view down the barrel of their heavy shotgun lmfao
If you listen carefully. The voice of the Civil protection sounds pretty natural, like just someone talking through a radio. The Grunts voice, still sounds natural however with more “static” And the Captains voice, sounds completely robotic. Is a little detail that shows the stages of de-humanisation the overwatch troops have.
I remember someone in a different video pointed out that it's interesting that they all have white helmets rather than the black that you see in HL2 (save for the elites and metro police). Giving them the look of "peace keepers" like they're trying to give the impression they're here to "help" people. Where as in HL2 only the military have black helmets and they only show up when the combine go into a panic trying to get Gordon Freeman.
I hope Valve makes a combine medic that shoots a harpoon that sucks your blood draining your health and using your own blood to heal his squad. Plus you'd have to pull the cord off so your health stops draining.
Chargers scare the crap out of me every time. Just this big, lumbering, hard to kill dude slowly pushing his way towards you. The first one you fight being in a tight space is a great way to make the player panic.
So the grunts are not fully brainwashed, but when you shoot away their head armor it looks like they've still been bionically altered. I can't imagine the level of coercion that led to them going along with this. Their bodies have been radically altered but they still retain their human personalities. Really does add a lot more to the story. I don't have VR yet but I am going to get it sometime this year and I am really looking forward to experiencing this chapter of the Half-Life universe.
