always a fun thing to find beta remnants like these in Valve's games. The gib textures on tf2 mercs are another great example, as are the leftover geometry pieces in many Half-Life 2 levels, like the gman room in town_01 and the invisible geometry inside Kleiner's lab on trainstation_01. These things have always felt a bit like putting pieces of a puzzle back together to me.
Yeah, sometimes this can lead to interesting things like how the corpse model in HL2 has clothes that look very different from the clothes the citizens wear in the final game. Then people found the original models and textures being used in Natural Selection 2 as placeholders that the developers must have gotten from one of the Valve Development Repositories. What I wouldn't do to have them...
At the very start of c2a1a, there is a bunker where the grenades are, but when you look through the map via BSPGuy or the Half-Life SDK, you will see two entities near the end of the ramp, and they are actually antidotes, which are one of the cut items from Half-Life. 😁
Oh, that's interesting!, I didn't know that for many years, i discovered thanks to Boundary Break video, but he don't show most of the things you show.
This is an amazing video, and there are beta remnants in Half-Life: Opposing Force possibly, like the three destructible barrels not easily located in the power generator area at the beginning of the game. It was seen during one of GameStar's presentation videos. You are more than welcome to do this one if you so wish to. :D
Everytime I press that red triangle button on the non steam version (Game of the year version or as in the CD Retail version)It crashes,I used to explore stuff on half-life but I dont anymore.
I think some of this, like removal of vents at around 3:00 (and that hallway) is just for optimization of file size and framerate. Like, that part isn't seen anyway, why would it even be there?…
@@zorgapb4691 Yes, but the balconies weren't directly above the skylight. Also the skylight was more of a ceilinglight, since there was a ceiling above it.
@@andyfriederichsen Now I remember. Even at some point marines were to appear in this chapter instead of "we've got hostiles". And I remember seeing the ceilinglight section many times in screenshots and pre-release videos, but never in the final game...
@@darklizard45 It probably was the original level transition before they changed the map. Rather then remove it they simply made the elevator inaccessible and left it there. There usually isn't any deeper meaning behind these things.
If I remember correctly, it's actually a remnant from a much earlier version, where one of the large doors in the map was closed because of the radiation leak. You had to adjust a satellite dish or something to send a signal, and could then use the elevator to go back to this area and go through the door. That's also the idea tha was later recycled for a demo called Half-Life Uplink
We find more updates and easter eggs on Half-Life 1 than Half-Life 3. Thank you for the awesome video! Your videos reminds me of *MarphitimusBlackimus' HL videos.* 🤣🤣🤣
1:26 - Why do I remember this room in this leftover also having different wall textures? The same ones that are at 2:00. Maybe It was like this only in WON version?
It's really nice how Valve tried to hide beta design from the maps in the final game since without noclip it's basicly the LOADING text and it's back to the normal part of that map. Still impressive for 1998 standars with the map design to make a story driven game.
The day has come to unite all goons, this is the public server discord.gg/S4PwwCX share it with your friends and post this in other servers. Goons forever!
@@jh047o yep it crashes the game, but looks like it left forgotten from the alpha times! The button looks weird triangle and operates just like in Quake 1 to walk on it. If you use some tool like BSP Viewer, you can see that map should be "c3a1b"
@@ClockworkBastard since gldsrc is just a heavliy edited quake engine, maybe at some point it was meant to use resources from quake or some shit, but since the copyright issues, they did not use it
@@jh047o No copyrighted things, just old, quake-like button pressing. Go to single player game, change to map lambda_bunker and see it yourself. Hope you don't need the tutorial how to noclip?
ohhh the map c1a4d seems like it was that thing from uhh. alpha i think. - in half-life alpha in goldsrc's files theres half-life alpha orginal in the images
