I will make a entire list of all the trick/glitch used for that run : 0:30 As you can see he collect the MP5 then the shotgun because the soldiers who had their respective weapon died so this explains having already the weapons at the start of Welcome To Black Mesa (0:58) 1:18 He shot Otis, so it can save time and he opens it faster. 1:31-1:33 Object Boost to skip the whole puzzle (the stairs also have a death trigger so you cant jump over it) 1:39 One of the major time save is the bridge skip, to start off on the map (1:39) , there should be a trigger hurt that would insta kill you if you land on it (1:42), but for the first seconds after the changelevel trigger (1:42), the hitbox is disabled before being reactivated again, so if you are enough fast and with a jumpbug/edge jump (1:43) you can skip the entire crash plane section without dying. 1:48 Edge Jump/Jumpbug 1:49 Object Boost 1:50 - 2:49 Can't be skipped 2:52 Object Boost to get into the button and then does a other one to get the nextmap 3:00 There is a corner there allowing you to cancel your fall speed and with a edge jump get onto the platform 3:04 - 3:41 Destroyed the boxes so there again some unskippable cutscene 3:49 - 3:53 Used bunnyhop and reduced FPS to avoid the waste to hurt him more. 4:08 You can reduce your FPS to get out of the train 4:10 - 5:50 Enjoy, once again can't be skipped 5:52 The changelevel trigger hitbox is everywhere up to that point. at 3:00 there's an invisible wall that makes a sharp angle with the actual wall on the left; you can wedge yourself in there to zero out vertical speed, then air strafe onto the catwalk
Congratulations to both speedrunners for achieving such mastery. It took about 10 years for RTA to even come close to segmented, hopefully they will be able to come close to this new time lol
I first played Half-Life after Christmas of 1999. Almost twenty-five years later I am still in awe of this profound game and the various strategies used to complete it. This video proves once again why freedom of movement in video-games is so important. I am eagerly awaiting the next big speedrun.
Gordon Freeman prepares to jump through the portal to Xen, then out of nowhere a marine sprints through the room at 40 mph spraying wildly with a heavy machine gun, bouncing off a beam and then then into a portal, all before Gordon finished his jump. That was my favorite part of the original Half Life

Shouldn't the run timer be 16:59, since things you did before Welcome To Black Mesa significantly influenced the run? It makes sense why you start HL and it's timer on Anomalous Materials, since that tram ride is literally inconsequential and basically a cutscene, but before you wake up in Welcome To Black Mesa you also collected the shotgun and SMG which were highly integral to a number of time saves, so the run timer should start the very moment the runner can meaningfully influence the run (in this case at 0:29 when you first wake up by the crash, grab the shotgun and smg, before blacking out again), no? Unless the timer starting at WTBM is just the thing OpFor runs do and counts as free time and I'm just out of the loop. Either way that was a hell of a run and it's amazing coming back and seeing you guys still at it after all this time.
