Hey Freddy. Being a pacer is awesome. I’ve done it before and a couple of tips 1) Relax in the first km until you find your pace, otherwise you tend to go off to fast. 2) Aim for a consistent pace the whole race. 3)Take a list of what distance the drink stations are at, turn around points etc and generally know the course layout. Let people know about the drink stations about 1km out in case they want to take a gel. 4) Be prepared to have a chat to people on the way round, be their cheerleader and encourager. 5). This is not official but I like to pace 2 seconds per km faster than official just incase the distance is 100 meters out at the end. 6) have fun 😀👍

You’ve got some great views for your runs, mate. Don’t worry about recording each lap on hill work, the important thing is to maintain consistent effort on every rep and allow the legs to develop strength naturally. I’m a big fan of hill work, it’s an excellent training tool.

I think we should all club together and get a lip reader in to discover those life changing words of wisdom you were spouting near the start there 😂 Good on you for pacing. I'd be practicing as well!

@@freddyruns sadly a bit far from Durham and I suffer driving anxiety. Will have a look up with the family at some point. Cheers for the info though. Good to know all the same.

What a gorgeous beach! I'm the same with my watch... I'm sure I'd love all the extra data, but I just can't be bothered to learn/ remember to use it! 😂 Pace/ distance, HR, and cadence are my 3 main concerns. Awesome about pacing the half!! I've discovered the fun of volunteering at aid stations recently, but my pacing is terrible, so I wouldn't dare! 😂 Do you have a cool shirt with your channel name on it?

Just found your videos and I am a heavier runnner (260lbs) and I have just got struck by the running bug again. Thanks for the motivation and keep it up. I cannot say how nice it is to hear realistic opinions on running from an "average" person.

@@freddyruns About 5 years ago I ran a disney challenge (10k followed by a 1/2 marathon). Hoping to run that again in 2025. Slowly working towards that.

I always have auto lap turned off apart from in races. For easy runs I find auto lap can take you out of the moment and make you think about pace. For hill repeats I do click on the lap button at the start of each hill rep and also at the top of the hill. This allows you afterwards to see your average heart rate both for the hill but also for the recovery walk back down and you can see the trend over a number weeks where you recover more quickly. Without that you would not be able to get that information.

So hill runs, I mean im pretty scientific with my training but yes I do have some fairly well drawn out plans for mine. Usually it is 2 mins (exactly) up at a high RPE (8/10) so I can do the same on repeat. I also jog down which takes a bit longer than run up. I usually do between 8-15 repeats depending on where I am at in my training window.
@freddyruns

I wouldn't time repeats unless I had timed them before and wanted to compare and or run them all-out, trying to get a P.R. All those lovely people saying hello to you, wow! But now that you are famous, you cant be certain of their motivation?

Daniel said I nailed it (thanx mate!) and then Famous Freddy said he is not famous, but added the "by any stretch". Famous Freddy, maybe you need to stretch more? Scott, that's not funny...sorry.
