Still not easy to say for sure if these casualties were in fact local fighters or Russians who were relocated to the region in 2014.

Wasn't the UK defense minister pranked called last month by some Russian pranksters pretending to be Zelensky ? In terms of credibility I rate this as a 2 out of 10.

With that many casualties the separatists are effectively out of the fight for the next few months at minimum. From what I read, most military units are pretty much no longer combat effective at 20-30% casualties. Assuming this is true (and it's a big if), the Putinites may no longer be able to rely on them to soak up losses, and the Putinites themselves are already having enough problems as it is.

For those wondering, The D/LPR forces are currently using around a 2% recruitment of manpower and have extended conscription ages to 65 years old, meaning anyone between 18-65 can be conscripted to fight. Bear in mind, these are the troops often going into battle with Mosin Nagant Bolt action rifles and 1960's kit. They are also the forces making up the bulk of Russia's ground infantry, as Russia has not formally declared a war, so its military is only operating at 60-70% capacity as a peacetime force. Meaning most of the Russian army units are running at a reduced manpower of an average 700/1000 men. I don't think we'll see the end of this conflict for some time to come, but it is beginning to hurt Russia.

The thing i find most amusing, is that these seperatists and their families will miss being part of Ukraine once the war is over.

Separatists have two choices, you can pack up and move peacefully or go to hell.

The 155mm howitzers are a decent addition to the ukrainean forces, but we shouldn't kid ourselves and think it will change much.. it's not that many artillery pieces that it will affect the course of the battle for Donbass.

Let's hope it ends soon.

While I think that it's great that Germany is sending artillery to Ukraine, it just seems a bit unrealistic to me to suggest that these few weapons will counterbalance Russian artillery superiority. Particularly since these weapons will become prime targets for Russian air strikes.
