2020 and our sixth year in a row boat angling in Norway at XLyngen. We managed to escape from the worries of the Covid pandemic for a week and had our best fishing there yet. This video is the output from seven GoPros, some strapped to the two boats and others on selfie sticks to film underwater, a Water Wolf as well to capture the fish in their domain. I experimented this year with a camcorder as well for the zoom, but it was just too shaky to use much of the footage when filmed standing in a boat.
Plenty of banter at the filleting tables with a great bunch of mates, much of which had to be edited out, looking forward to next year's trip which is booked already.
Most of the Norway boat fishing methods published in the UK work well, but check out the Scandinavians for their excellent results trolling Karikko's, we have previously had halibut to 120 lb doing the same. We found our most successful fishing methods this year to be big shads or dead baits and my preference was for the latter, oily fish are the best. Shoals of herring start to arrive in late August and you get to see the Northern Lights too if you visit XLyngen in September onwards. The herring shoals are in abundance later on and peak in December, which can be the best time to come whale watching, including plentiful Orca.
We book our Norway fishing holidays through Anglers World.

I've had most success with whole coalfish as bait. Keep rigs as simple as possible.

I really liked the boats,they are good sea boats,can you tell me where they are made and what they are called.
@paulsiddle

Hi, they are called Kvaerno and I guess somewhere in Norway. I always book the 21ft version with 115hp engine, travels well in a rough sea and sits well on the drift. Stay away from the 18ft Kvaerno, sits heavy in the water, just not the same. Hope this helps.

Mostly filmed on GoPro Hero 8, the underwater footage was from a Water Wolf camera.

I live in this area. Time to buy a boat! Do you know what type of aluminium boat that is?
@paulsiddle
@paulsiddle 3 года назад
Hi buddy. It's a 22ft Kvaerno with 115hp outboard engine. Cuts across rough water with ease and a very stable fishing platform. We used the 19ft Kvaerno for a few years before, don't even think about those, they sit heavy in the water and not good. Happy fishing. Paul.

Wow, what a great spot! Questions: Where do you fly from & to? Time of year? I assume the have flash freezing for transport? Do you book extra space with airline or just showup?
@paulsiddle
@paulsiddle Год назад
We fly Norwegian Airlines LGW to TOS and stay at XLyngen. Every cabin has a freezer, boats there are well maintained. Any time in summer is good.

@Charles Windsor They pick us up from Tromso, couldn't be easier. 18kg frozen halibut is the Norwegian allowance, in second suitcase on return flight.

Do you ever use slow jigs buddy?
@paulsiddle
@paulsiddle Год назад
Big shads jigged slowly seem to work, but you can't beat a real coalfish for bait. Livebaits are the best, but illegal in Norway.
