Hall & Oates have an instantly recognizable funky beat. They can make anything sound smooth. How wonderful to have this music to look back on and to share with the new generation. Loved your review Angela!
This isn't simply a woman who wants to have a good time. Hes talking about the type that will suck you dry of everything you have before moving on. A real sucubus.
Maneater is about the city of New York, believe it or not. They lived there a long time. Love them and saw them in concert back in the 80s. Daryl has one of the best voices in rock. Other faves include Sara Smile, Don't Hold Back Your Love, Some Things are Better Left Unsaid, Dreamtime (a Daryl solo effort), So Close Yet So Far Away, Everything Your Heart Desires
The thing I found interesting they wrote it to describe NYC lifestyle in the late 70’s & early 80’s which for those of us who grew up in the Tri-State describes it perfectly…
Their mix of new wave, soul and pop was formulated into a distinctive style that no one else could quite replicate. "Maneater", is a hard, sharp, memorable piece of pop music and is the duo operating at their absolute peak.
I think that you would listen to the music of Gladys Knight and the Pips. Some song choices Midnight Train to Georgia. Best thing that ever happened to me. Neither one of us wants to be the first to say goodbye
"Sprinkling in the instruments " lol So true about Hall and Oats intros . Their groove was badass when they first released it on us and, quite apparently lol, still grabs em !
DayOne - there is a lyric in the first stanza the goes "Money's a matter, if you're in it for love, you ain't gonna get too far." This indicates a different kind of relationship situation going on in the song . . .
This was played in all of the dance places. But it was a different time. But so was the times. But still a fun time but a great time to grow up. NO PRONOUNS 😂
In the same fashion of the 80s you should try a band from Norway named AHA an the song "Take on me" . You'll be mesmerized of the drawings coming to life and the colorful story going 9n with the song and the comics representation of the song... One of the best three songs of that decade!!
The „Philly Sound“……Saw them in 83. Had the best concert at the time. Sax player always reminded me of the muppet show sax player..cool with those shades.
UB 40. The song Food for thought. Powerful lyrics that makes you think. Or perhaps the song 1 in 10 thought provoking. Maybe some Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Relax or Two Tribes. Hope you still love the Bee Gees
Many great songs,, this is a favorite from Hall and Oates,, and Angela.... fabulous reactions..... love your excitement and emotions..... good one ... thank you !!!!!
As a poster below said, the song is metaphorical, but it's not talking about the record industry. They had been based in Philadelphia since college and after talking it over they decided to move to NYC. John Oates has explained that while it is natural to assume the lyrics are about a woman, the song actually was originally written "about NYC in the ’80s. It's about greed, avarice, and spoiled riches. But we have it in the setting of a girl because it's more relatable. It's something that people can understand. That's what we do all of the time".
Saw them live in '86..what I loved was how they sounded just as good on stage as in studio, cool back-up vocals and all, a very professional, polished show. Good choice, beautiful Angela!
Their best song, without any doubt,as i see it..very groovy, soft, danceable, good beat, good melody, cool horns in there that heightens the quality of the song even more...a good reaction song this classic..
The kings of radio-friendly riffs from the late '70s and early '80s (meant in a good way. Top 40 often gets a bad rap, often tied to the industry shift around this time, when most pop radio stations nationwide in the US began mandating that DJs use playlists/power rotations of Top 40 hits. whereas before, DJs had more leeway to play what they wanted, when they wanted. I prefer the latter model, but good pop is good pop, period.)
This was a Number One Hit for them. It was Co Written by Daryl's Former Girlfriend Sara Allen as well. If you can listen to "My World Is Empty Without You" by The Supremes, it would be a great mashup.
Was going to suggest the same thing. I have a whole new respect for Mr. Hall after having seen some of those episodes. Hard to believe the man is in his 70s.
I saw train perform drops of Jupiter live in concert 2 years ago and they were the opening act for hall & Oates during their 2019 tour and maneater was their opening song too.
Guess I'm full of songs tonight...you might enjoy reacting to "Vincent" by Don McLean...also George Michael's live version of The Beatles' "The Long And Winding Road"...incredible
See if you can give Gino Vannelli some airtime Angela...Try "Keep On Walking"...also "Wheels Of Life"... discover this guy, pretty sure you'll like him
Miss Angela, I love to watch you dance to these great song reactions. You should check out "Live at Daryl's House", a series of in-studio recordings with many great stars of today and yesterday. One of my fav's is with Joe Walsh singing Rocky Mountain Way, a song to which you should do a reaction. Tip of the day.
Ok so you like the instruments flowing in. I suggest reacting to TOOL. You want sound? Something different? Something that will blow your mind? React to a TOOL song. Preferably an audio track because there are some horrible cell phone live videos. I don't know if you are ready for TOOL but I am suggesting The Patient as a first listen. BTW I subscribed to your channel because of Hall and Oats.
Great reaction, Angela! Watching you dance to this one was worth the price of admission, alone, and one more reason I always enjoy spending time on your excellent channel!! You asked for a few more suggestions, so here you go! "One Less Bell To Answer" by The Fifth Dimension, "That's The Way I Always Heard It Should Be" from Carly Simon, "Hi-De-Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears, "If" by Bread, "The Air That I Breathe" by The Hollies and "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield! Keep up the great work on your channel!!!!
They have so many great songs "Kiss on my list" is one of my favorites. I think you did "You make my dreams come true" already, if not check that one out as well
As expected your reaction video is amazing, love your take on songs. Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please do a video where you react to Paolo Nutini's Iron Sky. I'm sure you will be amazed by his raw vocal talent.
I just heard this song and I thought about you! ... I know you get emotional sometimes when you listen to music and I'm a little weary of seeing you react to this song! Is by a very well-known band Bread and the song is called everything I own and it was written shortly after the singer's father died
