Hall of Fame pitcher and New York Mets icon passed Tom Seaver away Monday at the age of 75. Former Reds catcher Johnny Bench joined NewsNation to discuss the life and legacy of his former teammate and friend. Story: bit.ly/2Fca7zS
Over a long career Seaver was the most consistent pitcher i have ever seen.He never got rocked in a game. 2.86 ERA LIFETIME IS BRILLIANT. He was AWESOME.
Johnny Bench said it well. Seaver was a hall of fame person. Class that few had or will ever have, a real role model as a player and a man. extraordinary pitcher who knew and understaood the game at a different level. Probably the best thing the mets did was to get him as a player. I never knew that tom and Johnny Bench were such good friends till i heard the hall of fame speech
Johnny Bench said years ago that Tom Seaver was the smartest pitcher he had ever caught, and it wasn't close. I put Tom Seaver in the top 2 RHP of all time, along with Walter Johnson. In the post WW2 era, who was a better RHP than Seaver? Feller, Gibson, Maddux, Pedro, Clemens were all great, but better than Tom?
