I don't know why so many people skip over the fact that The Director himself, Rob Marshall, said that he saw everyone, everyone! Zendaya included...and NOBODY came close to Halle's audition. So, besides her being a black woman, she was the best choice, black, white, yellow and that shouldshut the haters/racists up. Halle earned and deserves this role. They need to start polishing the awards!!
I don’t think the race swap is a big deal but I think it’s unnecessary I think the remake itself is unnecessary Halle is really talented I wish Disney could’ve been more creative instead of taking a well established character and making a drastic change to their appearance it causes people to become understandably critical and some people even become hateful and Halle got caught in the crossfire I really feel like it could’ve been avoided if Disney was more creative representation works best when it is done accurately
@@blackguy6567 I think it was genius to cast Halle. Outside of her complexion, she is petite and has similar features to Ariel and having her keep her locs makes even more sense because that's most likely what a half human in the water's hair would look like. Ppl with looser textures that want to loc will often go to the ocean because the salt water helps its infuse/loc. But I feel you on creating a new character as well-and hopefully they will. I think they're going to be on this remake kick for a while tho, Moana is getting one next, I've heard 🤔 🙄
@@hisfavvvI agree Halle looks very fishy in a good way of course! I’m willing to put my biases aside because I think halle will do a good job despite her not necessarily fitting Ariel’s original appearance I can’t wait to see it!!! But I really wish they would stop with the remakes who is asking for a live action Moana LOL✋🏾💀
This is crazy. The two main things Ariel was known for was her red hair, and importantly her SINGING. The whole movie was about her singing as a matter of fact. I can’t believe there are some people who thinks Disney is wrong for swapping skin tones, when the movie wasn’t even about that. Halle is talented and she beat out everyone at the audition with her singing, which is what the movie is about. Crazy
Let's be honest, this movie is not just for little girls everywhere, it's for us grown women too. Halle Bailey is so beautiful inside and out. She is perfectly cast for this role.
What people don’t understand is- Halle literally LOOKS like what an actual mermaid would look like. Take a look at her features- she was born for this role with her unique, beautiful features alone. And two- her voice sounds super ethereal. She literally sounds like a Disney princess, and I just can’t wait to see this. The little mermaid was my favorite Disney movie, so I already know I’m going to cry a lot while watching. 🥹
You summed it up so perfectly. I’m not necessarily a fan of changing races just to do it. But ONE she won this part fair and square. It’s clear that she IS Ariel!! She went in there and SANG and u can clearly hear an Angel mermaid when she opens her mouth. TWO she looks like a mermaid. She has the look of this character!!! Then in her real life she’s a fantastic princess and her character speaks volumes. So at this point who gives two right damns if Ariel is now black. The best person got the part! Period.
Omggg yesss I’m soooo excited and I loveeeeee the little mermaid movies and I know for sure I’m definitely crying when I see halle on the BIG SCREEN INFRONT OF ME😢😢❤❤❤
I'm so happy I'm color 😊 I use to tell my friends, in the sixth grade everybody should have turn at double dutch. Great job beautiful girl 😍. Yes. Amen 🙏 4:20
I agree with your comment that Haille Bailey was BORN and MADE by GOD for this role!!! She reminds me so much of the animated Ariel. She is truly a mermaid!
My only criticism: I want Disney to create original Black/African Princesses. Not just remakes. They’re creating so many Asian, Pacific Islander and Latina princesses, but for some reason, Black princesses only get remakes. Ariel, Cinderella, and Princess and the Frog are stories we’ve heard over and over. Give us a dark skinned Caribbean mermaid, or Nubian Goddess or Kenyan Princess! That being said, I plan to see The Little Mermaid in a couple of weeks. I’m so excited!!! 💕🧜🏿♀️
I’m feeling the same exact way. We need a new black princess/character. The Asians are getting new stuff left and right. There wouldn’t be so much backlash if we had an original character.
@@Tayslay1215 EXACTLY. It’s also the backlash that upsets me. It puts the actress in danger. They always receive death threats and stuff. Just give us original princesses and there will be less backlash
The fact Brandy played CINDERELLA in the 90's. Literally. And no one had an issue. It was a MAJOR success..... times have truly changed. For the worst. When a black princess is an issue. In 2023.
Yeah because in the 90's there wasnt a movement of all this leftist nonsense of birthing people, gender is a social construct, representation, black mansions matter,... So you because you arent smart nor can see the larger pattern recognition of whats happening, of course you dont see it, but we all do who have eyes. Look at progressive and woke we are... lets make a STATEMENT, lets give a handmedown role... instead of creating original stories, to bwash everything so we can have better representation. Pls! Say you are into oppression porn!
We don’t need anymore Disney remakes, but Coco Jones would be excellent for the Princess and the Frog remake. She has the looks, voice, and she’s worked with Disney before.
More like Jukebox from Power Book Raising Kanan which would be full circle because the voice actress that played Princess Tiana was the same actress that played the adult version of Jukebox in the original Power Series
That because she was casted blindly, not for representation. They feel justified in branding it that way so be it. There is a difference although I don’t think I would satisfy the haters.
The level of stardom she is going to achieve will be through the roof. And it could not have happened to a more humble, deserving, and beautiful woman💯🧜🏾♀️💐💐💐🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
"Women of color" need to be reserved for non blacks! Halle is a black woman. She is beautiful and should not be lumped with "women of color" narrative.
@@charmaineespeut4627 not only that, it's a way for women of other races to co-opt our things. If we ask for something, as blk women, women of other races will play the women of color card and also try to receive what we are trying to get
I crying while watching this video. After all of the negativity that was thrown at Halle she remained graceful and patient and in other words “keeping it cute” (in her words). I can’t wait to take my daughters to see this movie.
I want an original black disney princess and not another remake. While Tiana was a new name it was a remake of Princess and the Frog. We have remade Cinderella, now have a black Ariel and Tinkerbell. Where is our original princess. Like Mulan, Elena, Jasmine, Raya.
I know racist people won't support HALLE's movie, they wanna see only people who look like them winning, i don't feel bad about them! I'm loving it. Little Mermaid live action, I'm here for it! 🎉🎉🎉
If anything, they are promoting it, this always happens when a poc is in a remake movie but this is definetly going to be as popular or even better than the rest
Halle definitely has some angelic, enchanted-ness that just Eminates from her! I think Chloe has it too, that’s why we are so mad she has crafted an image opposite of that. Her talent is literally otherworldly! Like it’s possible for humans to create such perfect sound from their mouth?!! What God? I started tearing up watching Chloe speak on her pride in her sister. They have such a beautiful, strong and supportive bond. I pray nothing and no one ever comes between them. We are just seeing the tippy top of the iceberg with this one! I want to get all my nieces and little sisters together to see this…I’ll probably start crying walking in. This is set to shift society as we know it…and it’s about damn time! 😊🥰😇
She was literally born to play that role. Ariel’s voice plays such a pivotal role in TLM. I honestly can't imagine them choosing someone different. Ppl wanted Zendaya, Sadie Sink, or Madeline Petsch as Ariel, but I always saw Halle. She just knocks it out of the park with her vocal abilities, and now she's considered a credible actress 🤌🏾
I'm confused cuz let's be real, aint like lil gurlz are even gonna care about the skin color. And Ariel is a fictional character. I'm with you..!! I've been seeing alot of comments about skin color & more. I'm like " Omg relax..!! "
I can’t wait to see The Little Mermaid next week! Halle deserves her flowers for sure! And when it comes to The Princess and the Frog, either Coco Jones or Ryan Destiny should be Princess Tiana! Those are my top two picks!
Movie was garbage! Colors were muted, the change of songs was dumb. Halle was fun, but because of the low self esteem overcompensation of BGM, they will try to make it SOO SOO SOO AMAZING. When its really subpar. Cant waIT FOR THE REAL reviews instead of the paid shrills.
Halle Bailey is giving me young Whitney Houston vibes. Just graceful, angelic, and the literal voice of an angel. I’ve never said that about anyone else.
I love how much these sisters support and uplift each other rather then any sort of sibling jealousy which is prevalent in this industry. Black women supporting each other especially siblings is what we need more of! I can’t wait to see this movie! I am going to watch it in imax for an even better experience ❤❤❤❤
I’m so glad that Halle is getting the praise she deserves. I can’t wait till she releases her solo music. Coco Jones would make an awesome Princess Tiana ❤❤❤
Well get ready to cry racism, when it wont. Because we all know yall will... thats your go 2. Box office predications, have already predicted such. The larger world outside of nonsense leftist hollywood GIVES ONE DAMN ABOUT REPRESENTATION or the smaller populations who dont even make up the larger movie going audiences feelings. Smart business. Its a sub par movie, mediocre that you all will say is so so so amazing, when Disney remakes in general are a tired formula. You will see... and I cant wait to see the tears.
I'm hoping so as well since I just had a discussion with someone who said a movie is a success even if you don't like it if it makes a billion dollars when I brought up that another Disney Princess Live action could do better (in regards to casting/singing/etc. of the main lead. I never said anything about the movie earnings since Disney always is going to make a profit just based on the fact of their brand name + remaking old classics.) I'll be curious if if that person will be saying the same thing if The Little Mermaid joins the billion dollar movie club.
@@kmarcol1 Seeing ourselves represented builds self-esteem, self confidence and that leads to pursuing more careers that have been inaccessible before
The only princess Tiana is Anika Noni Rose. Her voice and the way she talks and sings is iconic. Disney already said they will NOT do a live action of this. They are however creating a series set to release on Disney+. Not a movie.
THANK YOU! The only acceptable answer is Anika Noni Rose. She literally embodies Tiana and let’s not act like she can’t sing and act! That’s why she was chosen in the first place! And Tiana literally looks like her. Idk why anybody else would even be considered.
Remember, Anika is much older than she was when she voiced the character. For a live action NOW, she would be too old to play Tiana...Anika is 50 which is much older than the character and she doesn't look like a 19 year old 🤷🏾♀️
I cried watching this🥹 and I know I'm going to ball watching the Little Mermaid . Halle is doing an amazing job representing us. The dresses she has been wearing has truly helped her embody the Mermaid beyond the movie. I'm so proud of her.
Baby I was tearing up just listening to all the praise everyone was giving Halle! Especially when Chloë was being interviewed. Just soooo proud!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
I never knew much about Halle B. But, I loved the little mermaid when I was a kid. I've been following her every step of the journey, and she handled herself very maturely, and professionally when all the critics came at her last year. I can't wait to watch it when it comes out here in UK on 26 May.
I’m seeing this movie twice! Once by myself and then again with my kids lol I want my inner child to cry and sing along first and then I’ll do it again with my daughters 😂
I might be bias but Anika is the only Tiana I can see since she voiced played her and Disney designed the character after her features. Just give Coco or Normani their own original princess!
It’s also the fact that she went through all the racism and still came through shining and just as graceful as ever. As an adult that’s inspirational and says a LOT about who we’ve all been as a collective. Chosen and they can’t stand it but we winning anyways 🥂
When you said Anika was 50…I almost fell out of my chair!!!!!! She looks not more than 10 years older than these other beautiful and talented women! Black just don’t CRACK!!!!!!! ❤
Loren would be amazing for Princess Tiana. I had the pleasure of being on american idol with her and she is an angel, made me feel less awkward for being there. The most genuine and talented person I ever had the honor of meeting and briefly performing with. And she’s expressed in the past how she wants to play Nala so maybe this could be a new door! Ari Lennox is also an amazing choice!
Please, spread the truth thats happening. You make it about a cartoon, when anyone with eyes can see whats happening with all the idealogy! Colonizing traditional white stories, in order to make the smaller populace feel better. Please! Instead of creating or demanding anything ORIGINAL.
I’m glad Halle had supportive cast mates. I saw an interview with Melissa, and she was asked about the hate Halle got. Melissa looked ready to fight somebody 🤣🤣.
The couldn’t of picked a better person to play little mermaid, Halle is amazing & just gives princess vibes!! So happy for her and can’t wait to see her in action!!! 🥰
I like CoCo Jones - but I would LOVE to see Ari Lennox play Princess Tiana. She's pretty and has the Disney style singing voice and even speaks softly like a princess.
Yes. These blogs keep forcing Coco on us. Let us fw her organically. She already is on a hit show(Bel-Air) and has a hit record. Disney isn’t her lane. Ari Lennox sang thee mess outta that song too.
I wish that the original voice actor Anika would play as her role because I wholeheartedly believe that no one can do it better than her, plus she looks like Tiana
My absolute first pick is Loren. I've been rooting for to win for so long! But I'd also love to see more Black Disney Princesses that are magical. Maybe a west African princess with Annasi the spider as her sidekick. Or something featuring orishas? Idk there is so much wealth of creativity and culture within the Black diaspora - our stories and imaginations are endless.
Some people just don't know how iconic this is...this is history in the making 👏🏼🎉👑normani or naturi would make a great princess and the frog for that live action movie too!
It really does make your emotional, in a world where representation is so important & as times get worse it’s always uplifting to have something like this happy, shout out to Halle Bailey & the directors 🙌🏾
Yes she was a perfect fit. Those vocals are definitely heaven sent. It's beautiful to see how her sister celebrates her. They support each other and it's beautiful. I look forward to seeing these girls flourish!!
The actual actress that did the voice of tiana should most definitely be in the live action. She did her thang in that movie and the vocals she gave amazing. Ms. Anika even resembles the character. Also of the girls mentioning are great fits but I think the same person who was in the animated version should do the live as well.
None of the woman you named would be a good fit for Tiana except maybe Keke but she’s a little old for Tiana. The thing about Halle is she embodies ‘less is more’ she’s such a class act and timeless beauty.
Halle being the Little Mermaid 🧜♀️ is truly a magical moment. Before they release the trailer I knew she will be perfect playing Ariel. Halle boo boo you are really making history for all women of color. Her voice is truly a gift from God, on top of beauty and pure grace. Can’t wait to see it I know imma cry 😭 I cried when the trailer was released. You couldn’t tell me mermaids wasn’t real when I was a little girl watching The Little Mermaid. My teacher asked what I wanted to be when I grow up I said a mermaid she just laugh herself in tears 😂 I was serious lol
@@mileenakhan4778 if we’re going by your logic , can coco dance effortlessly or move the way tiana does ? Can she pull hype and crowd ?? 🤔😗 ??i does she have the worldwide appeal to cater and help sell the movie? I love coco but let’s check all boxes . Not just being able to belt .
"Chloe as Princess Tiana?" Are you outta your mind? I still got the image on my mind of Chloe being smashed from behind by Damson Idris in the series " SWARM" 😂😂😂😂
@@lancomenyongo7346 my thing is why is Normani still even on a list , she’s not consistent , she can hardly sing , and she’s good for a look and a two step. I understand folks want dark skin representation but go get the representation AND talent 😂coco jones is great tho.
@@lancomenyongo7346 honestly. Ari Lennox has the most characteristics of Princess Tiana. She might not be as popular as the rest but I feel like she’s best suited for the role
im no one to her, just a regular fan from far far far country of asia. but i cant even describe how PROUD i am to see Halle grew and made her dream and every other little girl's dream esp black girl's dreams came true. im so happy the world been seeing her talents one at a time like the rollout is so far amazing. the soundtrack then live then clips. im so proud to see all the praises. we been known our girl halle got it. but now the whole world gotta know too
Regardless of all the hate Halle has endured (unfortunately), I hope she knows that the love outweighs the hate, so many people are proud of her and adore her, i just know the movie will be amazing!!!
Coco's voice maybe a little too deep for a Disney singer/actress role which usually are somewhat opera sounding (like Anika and Halle). But Loren Lotts would be perfect. She doesn't have that high opera voice but her voice would be perfect. I think she can capture the New Orleanian style of singing like she did in this performance below which is Caribbean. Link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-35w--gplebc.html
No matter how many times I watch/ hear Halle sing that song it makes me cry everytime I have no idea why it makes me so emotional. I am soo happy for her to move into super stardom because of this role
SAME HERE‼️ i think it’s a combination of how she BODIES every. single. appearance she makes with her amazing outfits, how she interacts w. the young fans, how she carries herself in general is enough but her voice is absolutely PHENOMENALLLLLLL 🥹🥹 i even get teary-eyed when i hear other amazing women talk about how much they love it, especially Chloe omg 😭😭😭😭😭 i just can’t
All of the contenders are spot on! You nailed that line up. I can’t unsee it. I really hope Disney considers doing a Princess and The Frog live action. Just like The little Mermaid, It would be phenomenal!
I seen a video of Hailee Bailey, singing (part of their world) alive. Her vocals are top-tier. She has such control over her voice, and I think she is Up Next. She is what’s next. I’m not reaching when I say her vocals were on Whitney Houston level. Her career is definitely about to go next level.
11:48 Prince Naveen is South asain so no. Naveen or Navin (Sanskrit: नवीन, IAST: navīna; /nəˈviːn/ na-VEEN) is an Indian male given name and surname. The word means "new", "fresh", "young", "bright", "creative". His mother was also wearing a sari
I personally would love to see an undiscovered, new talent for the role. I think we have soo many beautiful talented black actors and actresses that would do a phenomenal job but are just waiting for their big break. We need to give more of these talents spaces for them to also shine and grace our screens. This goes for the prince role as well. ✨
@@JamesGamesTreasureHuntingno be fr. It’s a live action remake which always sucks in my opinion. Disney missed the opportunity to make a new black princess, at least for now they got the first Afro-Latina for the coming film Wish, but pls this will end up being average at the end. If anything Halle has The Color Purple coming out which Warner bros said they’re going to push this film hard for awards season.
There's nothing wrong with the remakes. It's just keeping the stories fresh for the next generation of Disney kids. I would love to see Tiana played by KeKe, Normani, or Ari. 💙
This was one of the most uplifting videos I’ve seen in a long time. Representation and accolades, come through! I love to see people who look like me on the big screen. Can’t wait to support and see it all!
I think some people are looking at Halle B playing this from a skewed perspective. She’s a gracious woman and has natural hair with a real voice. Her big screen presence represents ALL people of color and then to add the natural hair omg, from natural hair advocates to Rastafarians to even when with small or kinky curls feel empowered. She also represents femininity that so many men especially black men feel black women don’t have or have lost along the way. The community needs to keep this precious soul uplifted and guarded as well as other talents alike. ❤ FYI: those prince selections 11:48 are on point - sexy with good features but would also appeal to the commercial audience too and they are both of mixed race and I think non American-so that’s another bonus
Your point of her softness and femininity is spot on! The softness of her voice, those "princess" attribute and lightheartedness of her personality are what our little black girls are deprived of from birth.😢😢
Idk why, but I feel like Princess Tiana should be played in the remake by an upcoming actress that doesn’t really have a name yet in the industry. I feel like I’m so used to seeing artists, like Coco, Keke, Normani etc. as themselves, that it’s a bit hard for me to imagine them as Tiana.
