John Carpenter did not direct this movie, he was too busy working on THE FOG and Escape From New York in 1980 and 1981. He hated the idea of a sequel to the original movie as he wanted to end on a cliffhanger and not continue the story, but the producers promised him more money if he made the film. He only wrote the script with Debra Hill, which I heard was rewritten several times during filming, which upset Carpenter and that he would never direct another Halloween movie ever again.
John Carpenter cam on set and directed the girl getting killed after the Elrod knife, and Michael bumping into the Boombox Kid and hearing Laurie’s location. He’d seen a rough cut and decided they needed a kill at the beginning, because he doesn’t kill anyone until Mr. Garrett. Carpenter thought there wasn’t enough scary scenes. Likened the version that we see in the TV Cut to an episode of Quincy.
I think something that's overlooked about what Laurie had to face in this movie is that she's pretty much sedated and underheavy medication for most of the movie. That's crazy when you think about it. It even makes that delayed scream that Laurie does make sense as that adrenaline she had before is fighting back that sedation when help is walking away right in front of her. The fact that Laurie in both films was able to think at all let alone think quickly even with sometimes naturally getting vefore before fiquring something out with little to no preparation is a feat to me. I feel like most final girls will have somewhat of an idea that they're in serious danger, especially for a face off. I feel like Laurie doesn't really get that luxury and that part of what makes having the films set on Halloween. Weird vibes and antics are expected and can easily get brushed off as paranoia or pranks (like the neighbor that didn't help.Laurie at the end of the last movie and another came out in the beginning thinking it was a Halloween prank), whereas other slasher films (especially 70s-90s) tend to happen over at least several days and have some bodies pop up/died/missing/etc. There's only one day here (actually both movies happens over the course of 24hrs or something). Laurie had managed to survive it all without much preparation, a slashed arm, cracked ankle, saving two kids, and went under heay sedation... Also, yes, Jimmy lived. In the tv cut version of this movie, you see one last junp scare of Jimmy sitting up behind Laurie in the ambulance the end of movie with his head wrapped and bandages, showing the last two survivors together...
That's exactly what I noticed which is why whenever someone says, "Why isn't Laurie screaming when they arrive at the hospital!?" Dr. Mixter was heavy-handed with the anesthesia and the fact that he was drunk as a skunk didn't help. So it adds to the terror of the whole situation. It's one thing running from a killer with all of your faculties in place. But when you're constantly going in and out of consciousness while trying to escape a killer is beyond scary..
@@robogreek3157 What plot amor? The ability to run away from a killer that she was already fearing was coming for her after he had already tried to murder her earlier that evening? Lol...
I love the idea that Michael and Laurie are siblings. I went crazy when I first found that out. I always thought it was an amazing idea that you don't really see in any other horror films. Of course, serial killers in horror films have families just like real ones do but there's not normally stories in movies about them having siblings and actually going after those siblings to kill them. That's a chilling thing to think about.
After Michael died they decided to turn Halloween into a yearly event where it's always a new movie/story each year. Like a Twilight Zone for the theaters. BUT when part 3 came out people were expecting Michael and were disappointed. The marketing did a terrible job at explaining it's a new story entirely. Prob cause they knew box office would be bad with out Michael. Part 3 on it's own merits is a nice horror movie. Great story. And 40 years on it's a cult classic of it's own. I recommend watching it. The John Carpenter music of that time is just totally mood setting.
In the original ending, it is revealed that Jimmy did indeed survive. While Lori is sitting in the ambulance, at the end, someone under a sheeted gurney rises up behind her for one more scare. It turns out that it’s Jimmy being treated for his wounds. Laurie smiles and says “we made it”
Hey!!!! Yes you remembered about the 5 different timelines in this franchise! Sequel Timeline: Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween 4 (1988), Halloween 5 (1989), Halloween 6 (1995) + this timeline is the most notable one with Laurie & her daughter H20 Timeline: Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween: 20 Years Later (1998), Halloween: Resurrection (2002) + this timeline ignores every movie after Halloween II in 1981 Reboot Timeline: Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007), Halloween II (2009) + this timeline is Rob's take on the horror classic H40 Timeline: Halloween (1978), Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), Halloween Ends (2022) + this timeline ignores every movie after the original 1978 Anthology Timeline: Halloween III: Season Of The Witch (1982) + this timeline is their try at making new Halloween stories kinda like American Horror Story, but wasn't received well apart of the franchise. As a standalone, it's good, but everyone wanted Michael back.
29:57 In the theatrical cut, which you watched and is the "official" canon version of the movie, it's left ambiguous whether or not Jimmy survives. But the version of the movie that aired on TV back in the 80s was a different cut, which was fairly common practice at the time. To be broadcast on the major networks movies would have to be censored, so especially for an R-rated slasher like this that meant they needed to cut out a lot of the violence and nudity. To fill back in the runtime they lost from those cuts, they put in a bunch of deleted scenes that had been cut out of the movie during editing. One of those was an extended scene right at the end where Jimmy shows up alive in the ambulance with Laurie. So, at least in that version of the movie, he does survive.
Please don’t do that goofy impression of Dr. Loomis in the upcoming Halloween reactions💀😂. Anyway, looking forward to the upcoming ones! This is my favorite horror series!
People always miss that Laurie was sedated and then also had that bad reaction to other medication so she's in a haze the entire movie. Only extreme adrenaline bursts allow her to function.
Jimmy lived. It's just that his last scene in the ambulance with Laurie was deleted. Loomis and Michael got killed at the end of this but Halloween 4 retcons their deaths in order to keep the franchise going. This timeline has Michael and Laurie being related
So excited for the rest of this journey! Halloween has been my favorite franchise since I was far too young and, while some of them dip in quality, they all have redeemable qualities! 😆
@@donnybuoy Of the new trilogy the one with the neon blue pumpkin and opening credit sequence was poor, though I can see what he was trying to achieve. kills is the one with Anthony Michael Hall? Not great either😕. I was talking about the original Halloween 3 which was called "The Witching Hour", with masks that melt people's faces! Might be different in the States but in the UK 3 really had nothing to do with the first 2.
The soundtrack in that last part reminds me of terminator which they have a similar moment where he's on fire walks for a bit then falls down and burns but this one ends where that one he gets back up and he's the endoskeleton not Arnold no more lol
Ben Tramer (the drunk kid who got killed by the cop car) was the guy Laurie had a crush on and Annie was going to tell him about it from the original movie
27:06 "He - He doesn't die?" Pure, unadulterated evil, in human form, cannot simply be killed with a gun or a knife or a fire. It would have to be a drastic destruction probably.
The cop that hits the kid with his car is Dick warlock. It's also his son he runs into with the radio telling him laurie is at the hospital. I don't know how you thought that was Michael. The kid is carrying a trick or treat bag lolol he keeps walking because he's a human with a supernatural edge. Carpenter said he wrote him to be the actual boogeyman, something you can't kill. You ask how does Loomis know he's a killer as a kid, but that was explained in part 1. With the speech about him having the blackest eyes, the devil's eyes. He was with him like, 6 days a week, for hours a day 15 years straight. Let's just say he got to know him.
Another great reaction! Fun fact is the locations in this movie are based on where I live. I live in Bowling Green, KY, and Smiths Grove is a small town in the same county, Warren County. And two of the main roads in BG are the bypass & Scottsville Rd.
I have a movie recommendation for you to react to: A QUIET PLACE (2018), a tense, exciting horror film that leaves you on the edge of your seat, you'll love it
5:14. More lore on why he came back to life like that, even after being shot six times by Dr. Loomis like that: he is immortal due to a curse that’s mentioned as the Curse of the Thorn, back in Halloween 6. The curse was bestowed upon him when he was a boy, the night he killed his sister Judith in ‘63. More on the Wiki and in the movie H6. Nostalgia.😱💀👻🎃
9:24 When Laurie is put into bed there is a power outage in a deleted scene which caused by Myers and the electric locked doors failed so he was able to access the doors after that. I asked the question on a fan page and was given access to the deleted scene explaining how he got in. Also the Hospital being barren like it was is not as far fetched as you think because I was in hospital a LOT as a kid back in the 70's and 80's and there was hardly anyone around even then apart from a couple of staff at night
A GOOD SIDE NOTE:THE SCENE WHERE THE COP CAR CRASHED INTO THE YOUNG BOY WHO HAD THE MICHEAL MYERS MASK ON,THE COP THAT GOT OUT THE CAR AFTER THE CRASH IS THE ACTOR WHO PLAYS MICHEAL MYERS IN HALLOWEEN II.HIS NAME IS DICK WARLOCK(R.I.P.)
I really like this movie 1 and 2 have always been my most favored too watch. In my opinion they should’ve left it at these too movies but everyone knows that ppl love to remake or bring back beloved characters in a movie. I think they have over done it all but still great to you guys reaction to the movies. Can’t wait to see the next films with ya. ❤
Yes, the first two Halloweens are very specific that Michael slowly and methodically kills anyone around you who can help.. then he goes in for the kill. The newer Halloween movies sadly don't follow that genius character trait :(
Fun fact: People doesn’t know where did the pumpkin actually came from so I will tell you they actually have the idea from the movie of Day of the Reaper (1984) and that movie it was 100% a skull that’s how 100% it started that’s how that the idea got expired and that’s how the Punkin was born in Halloween for for Michael Myers so it was actually not the first time
First time watch for me with you guys so that is interesting and I thought it was pretty well done in the long run. Yes the one rule in all the movies exept for the newer ones is that Michael Myers can not die and because of that Jamie refused to come back until the movie Halloween H2o but that one is a totally different timeline and if I remember correctly only connects to the first Halloween movie and after that she refused to come back again for a full movie until they made Halloween 2018 which is the first one in the new movies.
Hey I will explain the continuity spoiler free: 1) Halloween, Halloween 2, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers. 2) Halloween, Halloween 2, Halloween H20, Halloween Resurrection 3) Rob Zombie's Halloween, Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 4) Halloween, Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends similar to how Superman Returns is a sequel to superman and superman 2 but ignores 3 and 4. My favorite continuity is definitely the first one even though it gets convoluted. but Dr Loomis as a staple character is always great.
Fan Pops technically The Myers Familial connection is only cannon in the Loomis Timeline/Original Timeline (Halloween 1978, Halloween II 1981, Halloween 4 1988, Halloween 5 1989 & Halloween 6 AKA Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers 1995) as well as H20 (Halloween 20 Years Later/Resurrection Timeline AKA 1st/Original Reboot Timeline (Halloween 1978, Halloween II 1981, Halloween H20 1998 & Halloween Resurrection 2002) plus in the Familial connection timelines it's not just whatever's left of his Bloodline he'll mainly go after & he (Michael The Boogeyman/The Shape Myers) will also mainly go after any gal that/who in someway resembles his older sis/original human victim (Judith Margaret Myers) whether they mentally/psychologically resemble her or are somehow born facially looking like her!
While I did enjoy Halloween IV, V and H20 in my teens, as an adult the only Halloween timeline I consider canon is the one you've already seen - where Myers and Loomis perish in an explosion. I hated Rob Zombie's Halloween, thought Halloween VI was the Alien 3 of the franchise, and had a hard time suspending my disbelief for Halloween (2018). I believe this was the first Halloween film I ever saw, so the question of how Michael survives didn't really occur to me - it was established in the opening scene he could survive being shot six times. If I saw the first film first I'm sure it would have occurred to me, since his invincibility isn't set up, it just happens in the original film. By the time I saw the original, I was familiar with that rule of the story world which spared me that question.
The first movie was supposed to be the only one, with carpenters message being evil can never die. But he agreed to this movies idea and gave rights for it to be made and this was to be the end of Michael, with him and lumis dying.
Michael is like thanos was watching that last night lol he's like I'm inevitable I don't need to run you can run but no matter where you run ill find you might be like in Devils rejects too run rabbit run lol let them run and catch them after giving them a head start lol
For the record despite what carpenter thinks i love the brother/sister storyline never had a problem with it. 2 and 4 are my favorite halloween sequels everything after is so so or awful.
Just know that Halloween III Season of the Witch has nothing to do with Michael Myers or anything else in the other films. Apparently, at the time, and for many years after it was a very disliked and criticized film. But in recent years it has gained a greater respect from what I understand. I still keep meaning to watch it.
Fan Pops in this version of this Film (Halloween 2 1981) poor poor Jimmy Lloyd is deceased/dead from his concussion after slipping plus falling on Misses Alves blood but in the other version of this Film (Halloween 2 1981) Jimmy Lloyd survives his concussion but not for 2 much longer due 2 the Comic Book Sequel of this Film (Halloween: The First Death of Laurie Strode) & is unfortunate no longer able 2 work at the Hospital as result of his head injury!
At least Michael got the dude in the front Jason sneaks up on the guy in Friday the 13th part two and does hammer time both came out same year and I seen some hot girls react to that earlier now seeing you guys react to this one lol
I'm always laughing at the Ben tramer part watching it with you guys for some reason when that happened and he's burning I imagine the mortal kombat voice saying fatality lol maybe he's possessed like in supernatural that's funny meg on supernatural they did bunch of similar stuff to this they thought she was regular girl and she gets thrown out a building and hit the ground and they do similar shot of them looking down at hernlike Loomis did but she didn't disappear but before the end you saw she's alive with black eyes like Michael eyes she's been shot and at most its irritating but don't kill the demon the poor body gets banged up but I guess the demon must heal it or something cause otherwise it would bleed out or be hurt but she just walks it off like Michael they stop her like they do with Michael later in the series in six but that's in producers cut lol
The sequels get bloodier later also the timeline is 1,2,4,5,6 other is 1,2, h20 and resurrection which isn't connected to 4-6 and in another timeline then the new one is the 2018 one, kills and ends making another timeline and isn't in the timeline of the 4-6 and h20 timeline or connected then the rob zombies remake 1 and 2 and 3 as a standalone movie.
I would jump straight to H20 as a sequel to this, then I would go to the new ones and forget H20 and just consider them a sequel to this, then I would watch all the rest starting from 4. Forget 3, it was a TV movie which used the Halloween franchise to gain exposure, but has nothing to do with Michael or Laurie.
Halloween 2018 Is A Sequel To The Original Halloween 1978 Its 40 Years Later & Halloween Kills Is A Sequel To Halloween 2018 & Halloween Ends Is A Sequel To Halloween Kills 4 Years Later Another Thing InCase You Guys Want To Know They Ignore The Original Halloween 2 1981 Through Rob Zombies Halloween 2 20009 Thats 11 Halloween Movies Thats Why Halloween 2018 Is A Brand New Time Line Sequel To The Original Halloween 1978
I’m so disappointed you all are skipping the best acted franchise of Halloween (Rob zombies) it has so much backstory and the acting is by far better than any other Halloween, especially after 2.
Glad Y'all Are Likeing the Halloween Franchise 🎃🔪🩸 Honestly Such An Amazing Sequel to An Already Movie that didn't really need no more movies Like John carpenter Wanted. Also Even though a Y'all are staying in the timeline Which changes a couple Movies, Halloween season of the Witch is great 👍 😊
Part 2 is good from the perspective that it entertains. But Michael being Laurie's sister makes no sense at all. He could have just tried to kill her in the first one instead of targeting Annie, Lynda and Bob first. I'll be interested in what you think of part 4 if or when you get to it as that is my favourite one!
After you finish watching this series (which btw i cant wait until you do the newer remade ones, those are my favorite) can you please react to the Sinister series of movies. Those are some of the best horror movies for me.
Samhain does not mean "lord of the dead". It's also pronounced Sow-en. It's not Celtic. It's Irish. Its Ancestors Night. The day we honor our dead. Forgive old grievances, start new beginnings. People wore mask and made jack o lanterns out of gourds to scare evil spirits. Pumpkins are not native to Ireland so thats why gourds were used. Bonfires were lit in celebration of life, death and rebirth. The cycle of life. It is also the final harvest of the year and the Irish new year. Or it was.
Great sequel and what an ending. But Halloween 4 is a direct sequel to Halloween 2 and Halloween 4 is my personal favorite out of the whole franchise and you'll see why when you watch it :D. It is one of the first films Danielle Harris is in. Halloween 4 imo is a better version of the first two movies and the ending feels much more epic.
