Donald Pleasence puts the movie over. His speech about treating Michael Myers is the most bone-chilling scene in the film.

He was the right choice for this movie 100% . Whats ironic is John Carpenter wanted Christopher Lee for the role . But he declined . So Pleasence got the part .

What was really cool is the fact that Donald loved the Halloween series and wanted to keep doing it and coming back until he died sadly. Curse of Michael Myers was his last film.

What I always found great about this movie is Carpenter built the suspense and fear using shadow and intent. Those that followed, Freddy and Jason had to resort to bloodletting. You never saw one drop of blood in this except for 1963 Michael holding the knife. To me much more effective then the gore movies that followed.

@@everyonelovesmajima Honestly, the only sequel where it looked really bad was H5 due to the more feminine and yet slightly angry looking expression which they talk about in the special features and documentary of H5 and H20 the CGI part was horrible but other than that, they're all creepy and similar yet slightly different which is good. It's like Chucky, he looks very similar yet a little different in every movie. Jason's mask the same etc, etc.

Now you gotta check out Halloween II (1981). It continues on the same night, right after this one. This is one of the greatest films of all time, it's in the congressional library's film registry board. It's a list of films deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" that are recommended for preservation by those holding the best elements for that film, be it motion picture studios, the Library of Congress and other archives, or filmmakers. Around 830 films on that list, out of millions made. Carpenter wrote Myers to be the actual boogeyman. Yes he would and has killed kids he is supposed to be pure evil, no emotions. He said he's a human, but he has a supernatural edge. He was only gonna do this one film, and the ending was supposed to scare people as it implies that you can't kill the boogeyman, with them showing all the places he's been in the movie, and his breathing getting heavier. It suggests that he can be everywhere, and nowhere. Another fun fact is that the movie cost $325,000, half of it went to the camera and lenses. I think this was the first movie to use the panaglide system which people call stedicam. The Myers house is in Pasadena, CA, they were gonna demolish it in 1987 but a guy who is not even a fan of the movie, but realized what the house meant stopped it, and they actually designated it as a historic site. So they moved the house down the street as they were building condos there. The street where Myers is looking at Laurie as she sings walking away it's all the way down there at the intersection. It's a dentist/insurance office, right across the street from the the hardware store that was broken into in the movie.

I met him, 15 years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding in even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this... six-year-old child with this blank, pale, emotionless face, and... the blackest eyes - the Devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up, because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil.

Just so you know…. The Halloween series has 4 different storylines. 1. H1 and H2 2. H1, H2, H4, H5, H6 3. H1, H2, H H20, H Resurrection 4. H1, H 2018, H Kills, H Ends The Halloween series originally meant to be a anthology which is why Halloween 3 is a different story. But when H3 was released they realized people wanted more Michael Myers. Also it’s 2 complete remakes by a director named Rob Zombie who came out with H 2007 and H2 2009.

This is a very popular movie to do reaction too during halloween,obviously,in the youtube community. This is your take on it Madison. I like your decoration too for the movie reaction there. Gave it extra atmosphere. The movie was made with almost no budget,I think it was 300.000 dollar,and it exploded of course,as we know,in sales,and started the horror movie trend,really. There were many more Halloween movies made,several with Jamie Lee Curtis,and yes,this was her first movie,always when they type introducing it means its the first movie of the person in question. It was very fitting that this was Jamie Lee Curtis first movie,ever. This is probably my number 1 horror movie. Everything about it is spooky and scary. From the music to almost every scene. Carpenter is a master in using audio and sound to create the creepiest of settings...and even more impressive,he wrote the soundtrack himself..talk about talanted!

I'm not the biggest fan of Halloween among John Carpenter's movies, but the ending is perfect. Perfect ending for a movie that doesn't have any sequels.. Every time I get a youtube ad for the new movie and it goes "This October 31st, Halloween Ends" all I can think is "do you promise"
@83shadow3
@83shadow3 2 года назад
Thats why when I bring up Halloween Ends I always say until the next movie. Because they always keep making more so it will never end. Because Michael Myers was supposed to have been finished off at the end of Halloween 2 John Carpenters then again at the end of Halloween 4. Then again at the end of Halloween H2O. But the movie studio kept making BS excuses undoing the ends of those movies. So I always say I'm waiting for Halloween 5,000 where Michael Myers is in space killing aliens and Androids and robots. Because they'll keep making Halloween movies with Michael Myers Non-Stop. They will say it's the end or the last one then they always make a new one guaranteed without fail. So Halloween's never going to end they are lying to people.

Carpenter never intended for there to be any sequels. He thought that it could only really work once, because once the truth is revealed at the end, that he really is the Bogeyman (supernatural or supernaturally possessed), there's nothing left to say. Well, there is more you can say, but that would be to answer the questions why and how, which were always intended to be a mystery. Obviously, Carpenter didn't get his way and was basically forced by the studio to write and produce Halloween II three years later (but he only directed the first).

@@tomloft2000 I didn't say "planned," I said intended. Which is to say, he did not want there to be a sequel. Not then, anyway. Later, Carpenter would learn the simple joys of collecting easy money from his old work from creatively bankrupt studios. And good for him.

I see a similarity with this movie and Spielberg's first effort, "Duel." You never really see the face of the antagonist. And that seems to make it more intense. Hi Madison! As many others have commented, the background and lighting you've chosen for "Madtober" is perfect! This was a fun reaction to a beloved classic! In case you're curious, "Halloween II" from 1981 is also great, as others here have said. I think the newer "Halloween" movie from 2018 with Jamie Lee Curtis coming back is pretty good, though not as iconic as those original two. Personally, I think all other installments are mediocre or just plain garbage, and the recent "Halloween Kills'" was terrible. I've also heard from a couple of horror fan friends who've seen the upcoming "Halloween Ends" that it's poor as well. The one exception, though it has absolutely nothing to do with Michael Myers and doesn't even mention the character, is "Halloween III: Season of the Witch" from 1982. That one's also pretty good. Cheers!

Fun Fact: Michael Myers (The Shape) was actually played by five different people during the production. For the majority of the film, Michael Myers/The Shape was played by writer/director Nick Castle, who was a good friend of director John Carpenter. Actor Will Sandin played six year old Michael Myers in the opening scene in 1963. Actor Tony Moran, the brother of Happy Days actress Erin Moran, played 21 year old Michael Myers in the final scene where Laurie rips off his mask, revealing his face. Halloween producer and co-writer Debra Hill played the silhouette of Michael Myers that Tommy Doyle sees through the window of his house, and plays the hand of young Michael when he takes the kitchen knife out of the drawer. And Halloween editor and production designer Tommy Lee Wallace played Michael Myers during the scene where Michael is breaking through the bedroom closet door to get to Laurie.

Its actually funny you mention in the end of a movie and how seeing his face humanizes Michael Myers. After the entire movie dehumanizes Michael Myers it's funny because on the audio commentary on the Blu-ray for Halloween with John Carpenter. He says if he could go back and make this movie again he would never show his face at the end of the movie. For that reason it humanizes him and he never wanted to humanize him he wanted to dehumanize him. Because the mask you don't see his face the overalls you don't see a human form just beg you overalls. In the end credits an in the movies script and on call seats he is just referred to as The Shape. He said that was his one regret and the only thing he would change about that movie is showing Michael Myers face at the end. Also John Carpenter never wanted this to be a movie franchise it was. Supposed to be one and done with Michael Myers end of story after the first movie. But the movie studio made Halloween 2 about Michael Myers John Carpenter had no say. He only worked on Halloween 2 for two reasons one he was under contract to. The second reason was he figured he would actually get paid because he was hardly paid for this one. But the absolutely hated working on it he put as many responsibilities on to other people as he could. I mean on the audio commentary on the Blu-ray he said he just threw the Michael Myers mask underneath a bed someplace. Because as far as he was concerned he was done with it and he was never going to use it again after the first movie. When the movie studio said Halloween 2 is about Michael Myers again he had to go where did I put that mask. So clearly he was done with Michael Myers after the first movie and he just tossed The Mask someplace afterwards. Because he was like I'm never going to need this again. Now about can you kill Michael Myers the answer is yes you can. But movie studio will and has retconed or erased or changed most movies endings. No real spoilers just a samples of things that happened at the end of Halloween 2 John Carpenter kills off Michael Myers permanently. The movie studio had the writer and director of Halloween 4 change Halloween 2 ending. Halloween 4 kills off Michael Myers at the end once again the movie studio has the writer and director of Halloween 5 change Halloween 4 ending. Halloween H2O kills off Michael Myers at the end once again the movie studio has a writer and director of Halloween resurrection undo Halloween H2Os ending. So he has been killed off but the movie studio pretty much altered the next movie to make making it so that ending never happened. That's how Michael Myers has continued to last by the movie studio interference constantly changing movies endings to where he lives. When people have killed him off so expect no continuity in this movie franchise because they constantly alter things from one movie to another. Now there is two official versions of Halloween 6. The Producers Cut which is everything from the original script unaltered. Then the theatrical release version wich is a mess because I will explain. Basically what happened is first they made the movie that would be the Producers Cut. The movie Studio seen that and they did not like it because it may have hinted at Michael Myers not being so permanent. And that was my movie studios number one rule Michael Myers is permanent he can't be replaced and he can't be killed. Or we will alter your movie in the next movie so the movie studio told them you have to replace these scenes in this movie. So now you got the theatrical release version of Halloween 6 with scenes that make no sense. That add absolutely nothing to the story all because of movie studio interference. Now Halloween 3 Season of the Witch that movie has nothing to do with Michael Myers that movie does not even technically belong in this movie franchise. I have the Shout Factory collectors edition of Halloween 3 Season of the Witch. Basically that means a lot of bonus features and extra content of behind the scenes. On the audio commentary only with writer and director Tommy Lee Wallace I repeat on the audio commentary only with writer and director Sammy Lee Wallace. I sadly had to repeat that because some people don't understand the difference between an audio commentary and other bonus features. On the audio commentary with Tommy Lee Wallace he is asked how the movie got its name. He answers that he and John Carpenter would have preferred the movie to be just called Season of the Witch. Because it was written as a completely separate movie from the start to have nothing to do with the Halloween movie franchise or Michael Myers. But the movie studio seen a script called Season of the Witch they read it they seen it had nothing to do with Michael Myers. They approved of it but then they told John Carpenter if you want us to fund this movie you have to call it Halloween 3. We will not fund a movie called Season of the which so it's you call it Halloween 3 or no funding and no movie. John Carpenter told this to Tommy Lee Wallace that the movie studio will not fund it with the name Season of the witch. They would only fund it if they call it Halloween 3 so John Carpenter and Tommy Lee Wallace reluctantly agreed to call it Halloween 3. Because it was the only way to get the movie funded and made. But if it was up to John Carpenter and Tommy Lee Wallace it would have been made as advertised as and released as Season of the Witch. So even then the movie studio interfered by forcing it into the Halloween movie franchise. With full knowledge it had nothing to do with that movie franchise or anything to do with Michael Myers. Then let's say the movie studio tried to interfere with that movies ending but they failed. Because Tommy Lee Wallace would not give in that time he said I'm not changing the ending of the movie it's staying with the original ending an John Carpenter backed him up.

I grew up in Milwaukee WI in the 1970's and 80's. Halloween (trick or treat) was ALWAYS during the day. I assume in most big cities in the midwest, it was probably the same. I think some suburbs and rural areas would have trick or treat at night. Let me know if anyone from bigger cities (Midwest & Great Lakes) had trick or treat at night please, in 70's & 80's. I notice a lot of movies show this. P.S. Haddonfield would seem like a suburb, but not sure.

@DankBeans This was in Milwaukee, remember. Back then I didn't think it was a big deal. However, I'm very glad today because it was pretty dangerous in Milwaukee from the 70's through the early 90's. Jeffrey Dahmer was out "hunting" the streets where I would have been trick or treating back in the late 1980's and early 90's. I'm Mexican too and he mainly approached Black, Latino, and Asian boys and men. I went to the same HS (Milwaukee Tech) as the Sinthasomphone's, Konerak & somsak. One of the Sinthasomphone's I had class with looks very much like Konerak, it could of been him, but not sure. Anyways, my point is that it is much safer to go during the day than at night. However, I would've enjoyed going with my friends at night and walking through graveyards and around abandoned houses and trying to scare each other. Sorry for long post, but it can be very dangerous, especially at night. Ironically, my friend named Richard, lived in the house right next door to Dahmer's grandma. That house was on 57th street near Lincoln Ave. in West Allis WI. There were 3 different spots, the Grand Avenue Mall (where he picked up Konerak), near Milwaukee Tech HS, and Richard's house, Dahmer may have approached me. I'm assuming he didn't go out on Halloween to abduct boys and young men, but you never know. Always better to be safe than sorry, especially today.

"What going to finally kill him?!" My immediate thought was "bad writing." But history has shown it's not a very fast killer, bad writing. Oh no, they can keep the patient alive for a very long time with bad writing.

The squeals don't exist anymore, the new second one is Halloween 2018, then Halloween kills And then Halloween ends is the final Halloween movie. The other Halloween movies are around but John carpenter did not like them and decided to reboot the 2nd movie.

Halloween 2018 takes place years after this one and gets rid of a plot that people really don’t like in 2 or 3 so in my opinion watch the 2018 one because it reconned every other movie

Bunch of parts of this reminds me of the demons in supernatural they cab get shot and fall off buildings and be ok plus the black eyes but also from the paranormal activity movies how they walk sit up standing watching for long time no speaking super strength and can just stare out window or into space for long time and slow moving at times but can move faster lol. Especially it being on Halloween like john ANF Debra said that's the night when spirits of the dead are out that wss very important to them that its Halloween and liked doing research on history of Halloween. And back in Salem witch times they called spirits shapes and they credit Michael Myers as the shape in this cause the script he keeps saying he's a shape of a man or something rather than saying Michael Myers so they called him the shape in the credits instead of Michael Myers which might be important like when he was a kid he was Michael Myers he was a boy bit once he killed his sister or maybe a bit before he's not Michael anymore he's the shape especially when he has his mask on. Its his alter ego persona he's the shape the boogeyman he's not a man anymore. Not human. So he can take so much damage and walk away. Yeah you can survive any of these maybe worst maybe all of them but then you gotta go to the hospital or you'll die. Michael just walks away and its still out there lol. He's gonna get you! Gonna get you! Gonna get you! The boogeyman is coming lol!

Fun backdrop Madison, very spooky :) Stylistically this film owes a lot to the very popular ( in Europe ) Italian "Giallo" movies at the time. The music and camera as character. Carpenter had clearly seen Dario Argento's surrealistic classic "Suspiria" released a year earlier in 1977. Halloween is the template for the 'slasher' flick and created a whole slew of copycats throughout the 80's, some great, most bad, cheap to make and very profitable, couples loved them. Fun fact, Michael's white mask was an off the shelf Captain Kirk ( William Shatner ) from Star Trek. Those things were always creepy, white paint or not. Do check out more of Carpenter's earlier works. I vote for "They Live (1988)", the last of classic Carpenter.

Michael Myers is the personification of Samhain, one of the 4 pagan festivals. Essentially, evil personified.
@steelers6titles

SPOILER ALERT: this franchise is being milked to death. Jamie Lee Curtis was still playing Laurie Strode as of last year's Halloween Kills (2021). Spoiler: Michael is still alive, which by now is ridiculous--shot dozens of times, burned to a crisp, etc., etc. Unless--he's not human after all oooooo. (But that would be a huge continuity error, as Michael's thoroughly-human history is described in detail in the films.). Halloween Ends, starring Curtis as usual, is supposed to come out this week. Will the series really end? Or will it turn into a Star Wars cash register for good?
