The perfect t-shirt for the perfect Halloween novelization review. I agree: Halloween is my favorite Horror movie, as well. I originally saw it on TV, when it had its network television premiere, in 1981, when I was aged 7. Haven't been the same, since that night. I wish I could've gotten my hands on one of these. By sheer luck, in 1987 (aged 13), I happened to be shopping with my parents at a giant department store, in Upstate NY, and just happened to walk through its small book section, and saw the novelization of Halloween...which I never even knew existed...though, I did know of the Halloween II novelization, and had perused through parts of it years earlier. I plucked it off the shelf, and bought it. HELL OF A READ...esp. for an early adolescent. I'm still disturbed by what I read...Curtis Richards, a.k.a Richard Curtis penned quite the tale. In 1987, I was taken aback by how well he gave a powerful, tragic, horrific backstory and explanation for the events of October 1963 and October 1978. Very eerie. The murder scene depictions are truly disturbing. The narrative concept of Us -- the readers -- being inside the mind of The Shape, is unnerving. One of my favorite parts of the novelization, is when Dr. Loomis and Sheriff Brackett discuss the history of Haddonfield and The Myers Family, while inside the police car, near THE HOUSE. The ending of the novel, in a way, is even DARKER than the film's. The idea that, when Loomis and Laurie find The Shape is gone, Loomis knows that THE EVIL is about to happen again... I actually hope that some of the concepts from Curtis' book gets dramatized in either the Halloween reboot and/or the upcoming Halloween anthology series on Peacock. It would be interesting, if the various Halloween comics are mined for ideas to feature in these new works. Thanks for showing Us. The illustrations are INSANE. Gothic galore. Happy Halloween, Man.

Thank you for the comments and kind words! I’d love to see someone implement Richard Curtis’s work into a movie or a series. You saw the made for television version of the movie first? That had some neat additional footage that wasn’t in that theatrical release. It leads one to believe that the original intent was for Lori and Michael to be brother and sister after all. Halloween is one of my favorite movie novelizations. That said, I just read The Terminator and it is mind-boggling how great that novelization is.

@@itsterrific Yeah, I saw the made-for-TV edit first, in October 1981 on NBC-TV...which, considering I was 7-going-on-8, was probably a good thing. My Mom called to me and my Sister, and said, "There's this movie on TV called, Halloween. It looks interesting..." When We entered the room, it was the scene when the 3 girls were walking down the street to Lynda's home, before Laurie notices The Shape standing behind the hedgerow. What struck the 3 of us, was that later in the movie, this guy couldn't stay down or be killed. My Mom loved Laurie's resourcefulness, esp. with the knitting needle and the wire hanger...she was absolutely pleased with the ending, tapping my older Sister on the arm, saying, "Now, EXPLAIN THAT!" Meanwhile, I was perplexed, while my Sister was scared by the ending. My Mom thought, like many others, it seems, did: The Shape had got up and walked away. However, We now know that Carpenter's intention was that he had vanished, but was not necessarily vanquished...which is rather in keeping with the ending of the novelization. Once my Mom heard, that night, that there was a sequel releasing that weekend, we, as a family (Mom, Dad, Daughter, Son) actually went to the movie theater to buy tickets. When the usher/attendant saw 2 parents with 2 preteen kids, we were blocked from going in to the theater Halloween II was playing in. I was THAT CLOSE to seeing that movie on the big screen. Do theater attendants even enforce that kind of rule anymore? Had Halloween and Halloween II on home media, over the decades. Finally got to see the original in theaters for its 35th Anniversary, specifically with my Mom (who introduced me to it)...and, yeah, some people still screamed in the theater during a couple of key scenes. Enjoy your coffee table book...happy reading.

@anthonyyoutubefan7567 That’s a great story! My mom never let me watch movies like Halloween. I could watch all the monster movies I wanted, but anything kind of horror “that could really happen”, was off limits. I could watch R rated action movies too, but nothing resembling a slasher. (Unless Chuck Norris was in it.)

@@itsterrific Go figure. When I was 13 years old, I was at my Godmother's house, and she offered me and one of her best friend's kids the choice of what movie we wanted to watch in her library...I said that I wanted to watch, Foul Play (Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase), and the other boy said, "Aliens!" (which I was totally cool with watching). She gave us ALIENS...I asked my Godmother why it was perfectly fine for an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old to watch an R-rated movie, when Foul Play was a hard PG...she told me that she was fine with the Sci-Fi violence and horror of ALIENS, but felt my 11-year-old counterpart might have been lost in the double entendres and adult subjects of the Hawn and Chase Comedy/Murder Mystery. In a way, I actually saw her logic.

@@anthonyyoutubefan7567 I need to watch Foul Play. I bought the dvd last year, and started watching it, but never finished. I liked what I saw, so it makes no sense that I never finished.

Hi Mr Terrific, Impressive Halloween collection. I certainly do not a full set. I was shocked when I heard they were re-printing the original novel SIGNED and bought the deluxe version. Still waiting for it to show up. The editor at Valencourt Books told me that HALLOWEEN was one of their most requested books to re-print but could not get the rights. I guess the 45 year re-union gave the author and everyone the push to re-print.

Is this novel available in book stores more specifically Barns & Noble? Or is the Halloween (1978) novel only available online on the Printed In Blood website? Will there ever be reprints for the novels for Halloween II (1081), Halloween III: Season Of The Witch (1982) and Halloween 4 (1988)?
@itsterrific

As far as I know, it’s only available ordering directly from Printed in Blood online, or on the secondary market (like Ebay). I have no idea about their plans to publish any of the sequels, though that would be really cool!
