Just to avoid any bit of backlash, no the traps joke wasn't meant as an insult towards trans people. I can see why people get offended by the term but I don't personally see it as something about them. I apologize if anyone got offended by it, I just hope you can understand what my intention with that gag was.
@@cohensmith6100 Not really, some people can take offense to certain jokes and that's totally fine. I'm simply just trying to prevent any sort of confusion since I don't want people to take the joke the wrong way.
@@CoolausdtinDT im not saying ots bad tp be offended by some things but ppl now adays are taking the hympr away from jokes bc most not all but most jokes are meant tp be daek in nature or slightly pick on someone and should be taken in joking way as intended
Well the joke was never meant to pick on anyone, I didn't even know people used the word traps to insult trans people until after those comments were made on the video.
This was always how I imagined rookie. On the outside he appears to be the aforementioned "strong silent type" but in his head he's the personification of satire
I’m just imagining a secret cutscene in the ODST hangar where there trying to talk to rookie and they all get a Xbox 360 message in their helmets saying: I broke my mic can’t talk :(
I find it funny if you imagine that rookie’s radio broke when Romeo hit him in the face so the entire mission he was screaming for help and everyone else is like “so do you think rookie died or does he just not talk” and then they place bets on how rookie died
Funny enough, despite his title as “the rookie” or “the corporal”, he’s around 26 years old during the events of Halo ODST, he also has a girlfriend as well I guess… it might explain why he’s so hyper lethal, is able to carry giant weapons (remember that grunts are about nearly, if not taller than average human?… and Spartans are over 220CMs and sangheli’s are over 250CMs) and is able to mow down covenants with as much efficiently as the Spartans
@@James-oj6ru yeah, the new and bad blood books gave more info on him. I hope we get lore about him before the events of ODST. What if he fought Innies on Harmony?!
"Relax rookie, he don't mean nothing. Besides, now's one of those times, pays to be the strong, silent type." "Well, good thing I can do inside voices..." Had me rolling.
Imagine after realizing that his mic was off he turned it on and asked the others if they could hear him, and then the others would be like: "wait wh-"
The fact that the player can gather so much from the Rookie’s cutscenes without any dialogue is a massive testament to the cinematic directors and the way in which they told the story through cinematography and small actions. Looking at you Halo 5 😤
@@freyja4304 Rookie is trying to figure out where his squad is. He gets context clues through the equipment he finds throughout his search. He is naturally curious on how things work and he cares enough to try and protect his buddies when push comes to shove.
More like a week, since this game takes place during halo 2. In fact, High Charity was even infected at the time. But there still needs to be a Halo horror game where you fight the flood as an ODST or a normal marine. it'd be awesome to see how it is from their perspective.
@@RE-45. Dude this is genius. Then at some point youd see an Elite, and itd put into perspective how much weaker you are than a spartan. Itd make sure you know how weak and fragile you are.
16:00 "Come here, asshole." I love the idea that the Rookie's still mad about Romeo decking him with the sniper rife way back at the beginning of the game
Now that I think about it, most of the Rookie's attempt to find his squad was him just fucking around with random items, and we the player just get magically transported to the other squad member's positions. He doesn't actually know a damn thing about how to find them until the Superintendent lures him close enough to hear Dare's broadcast, and from there she basically leads him to the others. Thing is, playing the game, even multiple times, you get the impression that the Rookie is some kind of super-sleuth the way he's able to track these breadcrumbs. Just showing the Rookie's day is a complete reinterpretation of the events.
Well not to be the “Actually” while fixing the glasses, but the whole time the SI was leading him. Right in the beginning you interact with a terminal and get a map. That connects you to him. The whole time he’s been marking your map and your hud, leading you to the pieces. Sorry if I’m being that guy, have a nice day
The fact that The Rookie tried to bend the sniper rifle back is hilarious...like not only did he just try to bend metal like Superman but maybe that he thought it would be safe to use IF he did. That shit would explode in your hands like a hand grenade the second you pull the trigger.
Y'know this made me notice some of the Rookies actions in certain cutscenes, 14:09 for example, I never noticed that the Rookie does that hand gesture.
The rookie represents the player character, so this is technically accurate as long as it doesnt change the other characters reactions. I love this video.
I think that since he was knocked out for most of the game, he couldnt remember hearing the transmissions, but since he still heard them, he remembers them subconsciously
H.G.L he is the newest member of the group so they called him Rookie unfortunately he died shortly after the war ended (you probably knew that already though) and they never gave him a new nickname the sad part is he didn’t die to the covenant he died to Humans
If Marty O'Donnell watches this or any other Bungie staff that worked on the game I might cry. Edit: I forgot to add the t in Marty, oof. Also since when did this get so much traction? Did this appear in everyone's recommended or something? lol And for those who want to know what the song at 8:43 is, here's a link to it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ilMtNCdQegA.html
I hate the fact that you didn’t do the research and find out that the rookie was actually a battle hardened vet of the ODST serving nearly as long as buck however his whole squad was whipped leaving him the only survivor. He was re assigned to bucks team and was given the nick name rookie for being the newest squad member replacing the previous who was called Baruti "Gramps" Komen who was called that for being the oldest on the team
I'm sad that you said "it's my first mission as an ODST!" cause the rookie is a lance corporal and has seen 2 or so battles at this point still really enjoyed this tho
I admit I didn't know that at the time of making the video, but he's not really much of a Rookie if he's a lance corporal though so it makes no sense why they'd call him that.
@Earl Lee I looked at the rookies halopedia and he was in the battle of new Jerusalem which followed his completion of ODST training he was also involved on the raid on mount haven after mount haven he became the new member of alpha 9 at the battle of mombasa so he is a some what experienced ODST
11:48 so when the asset turned on the security camera, a RU-vid add showed up. Timing was perfect, first and last time a RU-vid add gets me laughing so hard
man I totally forgot how good the music was in this game, it made for such a good atmosphere. Hell I think it even won an award, which is impressive for just dlc.
@@OfficialFedHater Agreed. The writer that killed the Rookie should be taken out and shot, his wife split in half, the books all burned, and retconned since nothing outside of the games are canon any way.
@@returnedtomonkey8886 it's in the lore his name's Austin and that wasn't his first mission actually it's his first with buck and them and he dies a little while after the events of ODST
@@axemanh141 His name isnt even known. His initials are J.D. Which is most likely John Doe, a standin placeholder name the government uses for people who have no identifiable names yet. Austin is just what was used in the video. Personal details on the Rookie outside of his birthplace, age, death, and military career are completely unknown.
Motopilot I think the song is a mix of Crazy by Gnarls Barkley and Unknown from M.E from Sonic Adventure 1, at least that’s what I think it is anyway. It sounds really awesome!
@@kuromifan10 Not game lore. Don't even think about trying to force book lore into the game. They made things up in the book adn it's fanfiction. Not cannon.
@@CoolausdtinDT I know, but it brings back memories of Jorge’s sacrifice onto the Long Night of Solace. Still can’t believe that Rookie died in the books instead of dying in game.
