@@enlightenment4867 Have both weapons connected with bluetooth, and have the hud swap to the other gun when you start firing and it detects a usage of bullets. Not perfect but it'd probably work. You could also do some AI that could recognise the gun.
@@mjb2048 simple until you run out of ammo then go to grab another weapon just to have to pair that one up. The gloves would be a better option if you're making multiple sets of these that get a read in each weapon as long as you're holding it
I'm a bit late on this, but great work! Stereoscopic camera passthrough is a clever sidestep of the geometry issues that seem to come with putting mirror-based HUDs in helmets. All the best with whatever's next, Chealsie!
Stereoscopic passthrough is what SadlyItsBradley has been unveiling as the practical future of VR/AR (aka MR) over the next few years. To my knowledge the Lynx R-1 is the first consumer HMD to be built around applications that enable it's capabilities.
@@WW1Historian Basically.......full field of view vision through a mask or helmet using cameras (kinda like a first-person GoPro or night vision goggles).
@@adamarmstrong5780 they are hired, and they are paid! Just because America has the word intern synonymous with "unpaid" doesn't mean the rest of the world does! We on average hire 2-3 engineering co-op students every term (4 months) who are paid well, receive full benefits while working for us, including free lunch every day prepared by our company chef -- I take our company very seriously in regards to making it a fantastic place to work. Just check out our latest vlog video and hear what our employees have to say about working here 😊
@@adamarmstrong5780 Yeah, even in America now, unpaid internships are pretty much a thing of the past. I did one last summer, and it paid more than most retail jobs. It was funny though how everyone I talked to was surprised when I told them my internship was paid.

If a group of engineers can make an IRL helmet from a sci-fi game set hundreds of years in the future, just imagine what the things the military could do if they tried doing projects like these once in awhile
@@scifirealism5943 yeah the power supply is what is limiting us. Until humans discover a new source of power I'm not sure how much further we will advance tbh. things will get faster and smaller but we won't be seeing any power armor or hand held energy weapons anytime soon.
The F-117 Stealth Fighter/Bomber flew for something like 15 years before they admitted it existed. Just imagine that the hottest tech is probably 15 years ahead of what's public knowledge.
@@billycraig6740 I believe you're right. I think they can actually make nuclear power pretty small the issue of course being you don't want your troops walking around with mini nukes on their back into a fire fight. Like they were experimenting with nuclear cars in the 50s so stuff like tanks and mechs are definitely a possibly thing, just not safe.
I would love to see a full master chief titanium armor build, lol I don't expect it to happen of course as the needed tools alone would be astronomical in price. Perhaps aluminum, that could work better.
@@Slogan6024 it wouldn't be nearly as heavy as you'd think, chiefs armor from infinite is more than doable with 3mm thick metal. You'd just need to give if the right compound curves to make an illusion of thickness. Or just cast it if its aluminum, that'd be way easier to get small detail. Id estimate the plates to be around 80ish pounds at the max, and that's worst case scenario.
We have ablative armor. We have exoskeletons(hydraulics vs pneumatics), we have rockets, directed energy weapons(lasers and particle beams), helmets and sensors(computers). The problem is we can't create a power source good enough to run them all.
Chealsie killed it! I know there were so many limitations with space, power and compute but a working AR system nonetheless. Props on the voice control and human detection programming.
I’ve been watching since you guys were doing this in a garage and this is one of the coolest things ever. You guys should do a “build are own superhero” series where you make different gadgets and suits for your superheroe
That's what I was thinking, they were all "Look how durable it is!" Then took EVERY LAST PIECE of protective material out of it, thus rendering that first test completely useless... Edit: They'd have been better off buying a much cheaper option (the motorcycle helmet costs around $800!) or, even better, machining it/ 3D printing it...
QUESTION: could you have use transparent screen for hud or is it too early for such tech to be used on a custom screen like master chief helmet? Your work is awsome, but as a perfectionnist i like to see what can be improved and pushed to the limit, even if i couldn't achieve 1/1000th of what you did.
The tech exist, but not off the shelf. Basically you would need a custom visor that let's light in, but also has a polarisation on the inside so you can project onto it from either the side or above a person. This tech has at the very least been used in cars and stuff to project the speed onto the windshield
Chealsie is so inspiring, I was worried about the fact I'm going into engineering as a girl, so thanks to Chealsie for reassuring me and giving me more confidence :)
Your actions speak louder than your gender. My ancestors fought alongside women and they were just as if not more talented than the men. Take the valkyries for example or even the shield maidens
@@Tovalokodonc lets be honest with ourselves here. When it comes to combat men are gonna be superior because there overall stronger, while there are exceptions as an average men are stronger and thus more capable than women in combat
Heads up guys (see what I did there?) When pouring acetone or anything from big containers like that, pour with the opening at the top not the bottom (i know its counterintuitive) but it prevents the air lock so you get a smooth drop and spill free pour and not the glug glug you had spiling.
Make the rest of the Spartan Armour. I think you could use (really powerful) springs for the leap assist that he apparently has, along with the foot blade things. Take the remains of that leaf spring from the Half Life 2 crossbow from a few years ago and make the leg springs out of that.
12:06 And now we know why Master Chief and the other Spartans pretty much live in their armor...taking off then having to put back on all this crap takes forever and is a pain in the ass
They did well on the helmet but I feel like they need to do more development on it because where the side cameras are or where the flashlights are the cameras are actually supposed to be in the visor
Yup! With further refinement it could be even better! But the whole point of our channel is to test out prototype designs to help inspire others to make projects too! If we spent all our time focused on one or two projects, we wouldn't have a youtube channel and no one would watch us!
Wouldn't have to hide everything inside if a different helmet were chosen, like one of the helmets from Reach, where they're supposed to be designed for modularity and attaching things to the outside like extra sensor packages, flashlights, lasers, cameras, etc. Would have made it easier to go without having to cut parts away and readjust the shape of certain parts or hide things in awkward positions. And mot of the internal protection would have been able to stay, too, so it would still be practical for using as a riding helmet!
I like that this went up right around LTT reviewing the NReal AR glasses. Dissembling and putting those into the helmet would have probably been a lot easier xD That said this just makes me want a HUD in real life even more.
Hopefully down the line you guys can further and further improve this design. Who knows, if you get to a point where it's so sophisticated, perhaps the military will come knocking
That's be awesome.. if Canadian military wasn't too busy experimenting with propaganda tactics in Nova Scotia rather than paying attention to anything that will actually be of use😂
@@austina23 it may have been Chinese military doing training exercises for winter throughout the past few years. Perhaps they're training to invade colder areas in countries such as Canada and upper USA. Either way, don't trust the CCP

Congratulations to Chelsie (15:22). So I think it's gonna be a motivation for upgrading the next Iron Man helmet made in Hacksmith Industries, like a F-35 or Ratnik 3 helmet display system.
This project is really cool, as with a lot of your videos I've watched. One thing that could have elevated this even higher (and would need to tie into the rifle as well) would be being able to track the aim of the rifle as well, so the cross-hair would show up where the rifle was actually aiming. (Maybe an IR laser on the rifle, picked up by the IR camera, and using the processing unit to track the laser point and attach the cross-hair to it?)
i think you can use zoom mode to get a close up of something then screenshot it and pass that image to google lens API you can literally create object identifying VR helmet. might have to mess with the return data to make it look prettier in the hud.
Helmets are due to head shape, not volume. The issue with fitting 13:50 has been with the helmets shape & design. Circumferences are not what's needed for sculpture in the round as they don't tell the full story about shape. I learned this the hard way myself so I just got rid of 3D printing helmets a long time ago & now cast large silicone molds based on specific measurements. Custom made helmets are just the way to go. This is such a great video. The team should tackle the Robocop HUD helmet.
As a HUGE Halo fan that's been absolutely obsessed with Halo these days I am AMAZED! You guys at Hacksmith Industries always bring us the COOLEST THINGS!!
Great work, love how awesome it turned out. I'd like to see you guys testing this helmet in some airsoft/paintball enviroment, with master chief as a juggernaut... that would be a heck of a video!!
Very cool project, and nice result. When technology permit it, it could be great to build a more 1:1 scale of the helmet from the game. In order ro use it on an actual cosplay. Also, where did you find the costume of Master chief? Did you do it yourself or did you buy it somewhere?
It's crazy, few code lines and it does all this. Prerequisites - have all of hardware, like consoles, cameras, controls and engines (this project doesn't need it tho) lying around and helmet for a grade of 10, just to pass an exam. PC - you will have to go and get it, few images in right places and it's done as a beginning of something greater. Essentially it's a proof of concept - it's possible.
I am a very pressed on how well you guys made this Master chief helmet. As a big Halo fan who owns owns every Halo game and Halo merchandise. I am very pressed on how well you guys made this helmet good job you guys
Oh I felt that, the guy wearing no paintball protection. Back in Fort Huachuca, I was playing paintball with a few guys from my company, and we end up just wearing our uniforms, with no protection except for masks.
Great to see Hacksmith writing some code. You guys should do more things that introduce some coding component. In addition to getting kids excited about engineering and various other disciplines, we shouldn't forget our good ole friend computer science!
It is amazing how you make all of these cool stuff keep up the good work and stay safe when you make these items please. Also I Hope you had a good Christmas
Super cool! The only issue is that the helmet is a bit "unwieldly", (I.E it's way too big compared to the actual Halo Helmet). Somehow downsizing it would have been great. Also, having a live ammo count from the rifle you made to the helmet would be really cool too.
That is absolutely sick, I cant wait until we get better technology so building stuff like this is cheaper and considerably easier. It would probably help in the armed forces.
Fun fact: This is how spartan helmets canonically work. The visor is purely cosmetic, and they're covered in small cameras and there's a screen in the inside. That's why helmets withouth a visible visor exist since halo 4 onwards
Yeah I want something like this, but as a type of overlay on the visor itself so that when the battery runs out I can still see. I would like it to display mph, gps, and the night vision would be great as well
this is really good and genius, the way they magically fit all those cameras, vr headset and computer into it. however, i think the hud could be better, with a better crosshair, as well as distance locator and better graphics
cool, amazing job! Just two thing what I saw what is not really accurate 1. is it friend or enemy work with radio connection plus AI (enemy don't have same raido frequency and civilians still need look friendly or just nothing) 2. HUD work form projects so you should see even helmet not have energy at all. But like I said amazing work
