Note on the names you love so much: most of these are not original. Many of them, Pillar of Autumn, Spirit of Fire, Lance Held High, are all the names of Japanese ships (usually cruisers) during WWII. They also were all destroyed by US naval action.

If nothing else Halo has *the* best ship names I've ever heard. The utter irreverence of the shipyards and Admiralty managed to come up with names that evoke dignity and passion and also a devil-may-care attitude. My personal favourites might well be "Two For Flinching" and "Say My Name". :)

Thematically, Spirit of Fire is a fantastic name, but Halo 3 was my introduction to the series, and I’ve always loved the name Forward Unto Dawn. Preventing it from letting the other Covie Ships from learning of the ship being boarded and taken over by the Humans. It's why the Savannah couldn't break away from the fight in time. Yeah that always confused me, cortana was going to destroy high charity using in amber clad but obviosly never did that since high charity is still mostly intact in halo 3, as cortana said in the beginning cutscene of high charity the blast would have destroyed the city and installation 05. @thesenceofmorality
@thesenceofmorality 2 года назад
@@falloutgamer347 I assumed it was because she lost network access to the ship once the gravemind took full control of high charity. Another thing as well, while the Autumn's reactors detonating where quite destructive there are 2 things to keep in mind. 1. High Charity is a different shape, density and was in orbit of 05. 2. The Autumn is a cruiser that was refitted with a cutting edge power-plant before she left Reach, IAC is just a frigate with a standard reactor. The power differences make me doubt a blast would destroy the Halo and they city. It's not likely Cortana could have done this but she should have just rammed 05 with High Charity. If it didn't destroy both it would undoubtedly cripple them.

It helps that SoF fought limited engagements. Both games featured enemy forces that weren't able to be reinforced. And the majority of the action was on the ground, which is its Forte. More than that, I love the image of Red Team, assumed dead for 27 years, landing to back up the Master Chief. There are good reasons why it can't happen, I know. Spirit of Fire was never much of a warship to begin with; the ship's entire purpose is to deliver ground troops and firebases, not engage enemy ships. Otherwise High Charity would have been seriously damaged by the time of H3 but is instead very much intact. Also, small SPOILER for the launch trailer of Halo Infinite below: Within the first 20 seconds there is a space battle shown where a Banished ship cleanly cuts into the Infinities top forward hull section, suffice to say if she did survive the ram, she is most likely completely inoperable. There have also been suggestions that a large, blocky object in the background of many recent gameplay trailers could be the infinity as it had crashed onto Zeta Halo. It shows a rather distinctive form of damage that aligns with the afformentioned ramming.

I think an essential element for a good hero ship is to under-promise and over-deliver. Most are old, or small compared to the average, or been heavily damaged in the past, or all of the above. But then they turn out to have some little something that modern, large, or untested ships do not. The _Infinity_ meanwhile slightly over-promises, but then slightly under-delivers. It's not so much either way to be egregious, but it does amount to a whole lot of 'meh.'

Wow! 10/10 on the Infinity's fate. I guess the writers thought having an active ship the same name as the game would have been funky. As for the Infinity's role in the Halo lore, I think it was sort of a promise for the future/gigantic bluff on Humanity's part. It was one ship more advanced then anything else, but it was still only one ship. And their fleets been extremely depleted. Any remaining threats would things be put down fast and hard to protect a recovering humanity.

Repeating the name in my head, I guess it kinda gives off the vibe of well.. "Clad in Amber" obviously, but from what i take from it is a name of a ship that manages to see a new day, like a morning horizon washing over the ship. (Hence the amber colour)

Can we talk about the utter crime committed against the Forward Unto Dawn? When Master Chief went to cryosleep at the end of Halo 3 he was in the rear half of a Charon class light frigate. But he woke up in the rear half of a Strident class heavy frigate - a ship, by the way, that’s a couple of orders of magnitude larger than the Charon. Like… I admire the hustle of trying to cram a retcon like that in and hoping nobody would notice… but clearly they didn’t count on sci-fi ship nerds like us 😂

343 seems to have a problem with making extra assets to fit canon. The same thing happened with the Arbiter in Halo 5 with him looking like the bulky phenotype instead of the slick one. and in both cases the team went “no in universe they look like they are suppose to we aren’t retconning it.” I understand budget is always an issue but couldn’t you have grabbed an older model and touched it up or something?

i feel the infinity played an important narrative role in portraying the sins of the forerunners passing onto humanity, as humanity assumes the mantle, having felt they were owed it by being the forerunner's prodigies, and it's necessary for the infinity to be destroyed to represent that the entire idea of the mantle is flawed and no species should ever be 'the giant' and have that much power.

Major Silva and company were very much fighting the flood before chief was, sending along with captain Keyes, a contingency of marines to the "weapons cache" and their base was unfortunately a vent cap to the sub systems, which the flood had been using since the covenant let them out. The Infinity would have been much more compelling if it wasn't actually the big supership the UNSC made it out to be, but was a slap-dash mix of recycled parts and scavenged technology built as a desperate last hope. No weapons powerful enough to crack small moons, or shields that can take head on collisions with other ships. The Infinity is powerful, very powerful. But it is a bunch of poorly understood technologies held together with duct tape, and is prone to breakdowns and weird malfunctions. And instead of being an entirely new ship design, it's built out of recycled ships and standard parts to take advantage of remaining UNSC construction (and their excess of scrappable destroyed ships). Sure, it's not glamorous, but it's infinitely more interesting: a ships built by a dying navy, strapped for resources and cobbled together out of what they had and the most advanced technology at their disposal as fast as possible to be humanity's lifeboat. Now pushed into service as the biggest and most capable ship in the UNSC post war, until new real warships can be built.

I have literally only played Halo 1 on OG Xbox on a CRT television. I might be biased but Pillar of autumn is my Favorite. It had the best corridors. Of course I judge every ship by how good their corridors are. It was the perfect combination of gameplay and rational ship design. The way they jammed everything around the honeycomb internal structure was inspired genius. That perfect moment when gameplay, storytelling, and simulation match up perfectly. Suddenly there was a reason all the corridors had cover, instead of constantly being conspiciously spaced crates, light poles, and park benches, made of indestructium. Side note: Google voice to speech recognizes "indestructium" as a word.

Basically, it's everything the Infinity isn't. I really, REALLY don't like the Infinity, mostly because it feels like a big, giant invincible "do everything ship". I don't normaly mind do everything ships if they have some sort of exploitable weakeness. Take Star Wars's Star Destroyers for example, yeah they're big and scary but they have obvious weaknesses you can exploit. Also, *spoilers* I'm honestly really happy the Banished trashed the Infinity in Halo Infinite, as it got rid of my least favorite Halo ship and proved how badass the Banished are, coupled with Master Chief getting his Mjolnir-plated behind served to him by Atriox.

For the longest time since it released, I couldn’t play Halo Wars. I was too young, unable to comprehend the thought of a Strategy game. The game that I played the most the most was Halo Reach. The atmosphere in campaign especially, almost every ship destroyed wounded you. The loss of the civilian ship and Savannah especially saddened me. Though after reaching my teens, I began playing Halo Wars again, see if I can “this time” figure out how to play. That was when I feel in love with not only the ship, but the crew. Even playing it non stop between Reach for almost three years. If the ship is ever destroyed I would be devastated, even the thought of it hurts me. Edit: I also miss the original voice actor to Captain Cutter. He reminds me of a grandfather figure, might appear cold but still deeply cares for the people around him. This can be seen each time you fail a mission, either scolding you, or sounding disappointed. The campaign especially shows it. The new voice actor seems younger, eccentric, and less cautious with regards to how he endangers the lives of his crew. The old character I doubt would ever risk a arch missile barrage while his men could be caught in the cross-fire. Yet had to appear more cinematic for a introduction to a new enemy. The new character and art makes him appear twenty years younger, which to me calls into question his role as “grandfather”. Yet that is my only gripe. Serena being gone also came as a depressing shock. Though I understood story wise and was able to quickly move on as the campaign progressed.

Ironically, the voice actor for new Cutter is the old Jerome voice actor. The old Douglas actor became the Jerome actor. It's just a funny thought, to me.
