Another small detail from the end cutscene of Sword Base is when Halsey asks Jorge whether he’s certain they encountered Zealots at Visegrad. Jorge confirms this by talking about the appearance of their armor, but Noble Six adds that their shield strength matched, implying that Six has fought (and killed) so many Elite Zealots that he can immediately recognize them based on just this feature alone
I still remember how I felt playing "lone wolf" for the first time. The soundtrack, the setup. The objective that pops up at the top simply saying "survive" The cracked visor after you take a few shots. It was just perfect
I love that someone is finally talking about this aspect of Halo Reach this style of cinematography is my favourite of all time it is a reason why I love person of interest and Neill blomkamp's movies there's something about the gritty found-footage and multiple perspectives the chest give any style of media just an extra awesomeness
i mean you cant say bungie didnt leave without a bang i still play reach and the lore is so cool makes Spartans these badass almost invincible soldiers seem killable and human because of just how many lose their lives throughout the game and for what? reach still gets glassed in the end its such a somber game love it
that is also why reach artstyle is the most polished and technically advanced among bungie games. It is like they built every halo on top of the previous and reach is the pinnacle
Was watching an unrelated Halo video and immediately thought of you. You need to keep making videos. Love your cross section of knowledge of the games and love of the games.
The motion capture work in Reach is freaking outstanding. It's even mote incredible considering this was THE FIRST time Bungie used motion capture in one of their games ever.
Man the nostalgia this game gives me, from forge mode, griffball, firefights, infected, and of course beating the campaign for the 1000th time with my buddies, all wearing our own gear and showing off our rank i remember hitting Nova before most of my friends it being so excited, this game in my eyes is the best game ive ever played the memories are impossible to remake nowadays
As far as little details, one of my favorites is in the opening cutscene of Tip of the Spear. Right after Kat crouches by the downed Warthog, she wiggles her position a little bit, like your example with Emile at the end of the video. I saw it the first time I played it, and it was one of those details that just caught my attention because of its significance. It's just a couple of centimeters probably, but it's a cool humanizing detail.
Reach is my favorite. I love the social gamemodes, i love the weapons and equipment, i love the campaign, i love the music, i love the forge, i love the character customization, i love the maps, i love the design, and i love the vehicles. Its the best Halo game imo
Reach was also very ahead of its time and the fact that you can customize your spartan and then that customization transfers into tje campaign was so cool
All the subtle details in animation and reactions shown in Reach’s cutscenes make the Spartans feel more human than 343’s attempts at making master chief “human”
I'm and old guy but just got into gaming a couple of years ago cause of the grandkids. Reach is one of my favorite Halo games because the story and art are so good. I wish that MS would have listened more to the Bungie crew than to board members. Games were made for teens to enjoy something not just for a fat corporation to make bank. Now Halo after the nonsense of the TV show will never be the same again. But the games like the books and art will always be their to tell us that Bungie was a bad-ass bunch of talent.
Also now that I've learned so much (actual lore, not TV lore, but it inspired me to look into the real deal) about Halsey's Spartans and then Ackerson's Spartan 3s it's a nice detail how George, a Spartan 2 raised by Halsey is loyal to her whereas the rest of the team, Spartan 3s could care less about her aside from their orders to save her later. Or rather what she created, she's a lucky afterthought.
@@turbonaqhwi7497halo will never be forgotten; not in the corny sense that “oh Spartans never die” but in the sense that the games are timeless enough to atleast have the privilege of having multiple entries; not a lot of games have that… oh and the fucking toxic fanbase too; they’ll shove their opinions so far down your neck like it’s a landfill and it’s annoying.
Great to see more Halo content from you, EBR. Thanks for pointing out how great Reach's cutscenes are. I feel like Reach and ODST's cutscenes are often overlooked in comparison to the gameplay, environments and music. Love the video title too. I have great memories of Reach co-op campaign and firefight with my brother, so Reach is still very special for me. One other little detail- I've always noticed that Jun hangs back the farthest from the other members of Noble Team. Perhaps that's his sniper instinct kicking in and he is staying in the backline so he can get a good view of everything.
I love the New Alexandria ending cutscene, (almost) all of Noble Teams' character gets put on full display. Like you said, Jun's away from the rest of team watching what's unfolding outside. When Emile says its a family reunion and 6 drops the tags from his hand it says volumes about 6 without him having to say a word. Same for Emile, the stuff he says shows he respects him despite their beef earlier in the campaign. Kat's off to the side always fixing something and when Jun asks Carter about the Spartan Teams being deployed, Carter instantly turns his head to Kat knowing she's the one always snooping around gathering intel she's not supposed to be knowing (like earlier when they went to the sabre facility). And Carter when Kat asked if they've lost doesn't respond. He can't say they've lost, he's the team leader, even though everyone probably knew what his answer would be. There's so much more and that's literally just one cutscene. Absolute masterpiece Reach is.
Canonically he went out fighting for hours against an entire branch of the covenant military (including air support and tanks), and the Elites actually stopped glassing the planet to fight Six, also he only got overwhelmed because he was so exhausted from fighting for so long
Also the miss of the button reminded us of the loss of her arm which might have been the reason for her death since the cyber arm she has is malfunctioning. Might have been the reason for the slow response when the zealots showed up. And I love the fact that nobody even mentions the missing arm.
Halo Reach is Bungie’s magnum opus and I’ll proudly die on that hill. Also gotta credit the wizard himself Marty O’Donnell for tying the bow on this masterpiece with one of the best soundtracks in the history of gaming
It really is, I fell in love with Reach the moment I started playing it. Spent the most time on it out of any Halo game. Story was 10/10, Multiplayer was pure perfection, 10/10, Art and Spartan/Elite design was 10/10 and the customisability was fantastic. Game is a genuine masterpiece. We all have opinions but I never understood the people that hated this game.
It's also said that the reason she didn't have shields when she was shot was due to the same disorientation. She forgot to activate them in the whole ordeal. At least that was what I was told
I love how in a lot of Cutscenes at the start of missions when the camera is following 6, specifically in NightFall and the start of Exodus, the camera work following 6 makes it look like a camera man is actually filming and following behind him
@@StatisticColtit is technically higher quality but it has little to no detail to require that level of quality. Everything looks unnaturally clean and new when it should pretty much be the exact opposite.
One complaint I always had was that the POV cutscenes always went to black before starting gameplay. I think they should’ve transformed into the gameplay HUD in a fluid way just like Halo 3 (sometimes) does
Basically, Halo Recah's story can show everything wrong with Halo Infinite's story because it is it's "show don't tell" while Infinite's story is "tell don't show".
Hey dude, let me talk to you rq. I know you're probably getting burnt out on Halo, everything has kinda sucked as of late. But, there's still passion in the community, and damn if we let it go. I had some video ideas for you, if you're running low on content. I like the style of your evolution videos, and most of these will be some of those. I noticed you didn't have one for the flood, or the evolution of the weapons of Halo. Look at the plasma rifle to the reach plasma assault rifle thingy whatever, the needle rifle, there's a lot of lore behind the changing weapons. Of course you couldn't break it down by weapon itself, but you could do it by faction? Idk. This is gonna get deep really quick, but Halo Wars has some flood and vehicle designs never implemented into the base games. You could easily get into that, and I'd definitely watch it. You could also get into the evolution of Chief himself, and the different Spartan armor sets they have throughout the games. Idk dude, I know times are rough, but I frickin love your content, and I want you to be inspired the way you used to be. You're fucking awesome, Halo still has hope, and we gotta get past the era of the TV show and Infinite battle pass skins. Only way we can do that, is showing what really mattered back in the games we still love. Take it easy man, -a dude
I will never understand how 343 came up with such a masterpiece of a story but also an emotional one watching all your friends ( except for jun) die right in front of you and then watching yourself die was SO GOOD
I may need to be corrected on this one, but I believe Halo Reach was the first Halo game to utilize motion capture for its cutscenes, which adds a whole new level of detail to the characters because all the tiny micromovements that people make are visible and noticeable. And when your main characters spend most of their time with their faces covered by helmets being able to interpret their body language becomes a much more powerful form of expression.
The reason why Kat is slow on the draw and misses the elevator button is because of her prosthetic arm. She lost her arm on April 22 2552, only 4 months before her death on August 23 2552. Kinda amazing she adjusted so fast really.
@@corduroytm Just check the wiki's. The specific battle she lost her arm is the Battle of Fumirole. Also the Halo Reach Deliver Hope trailer ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-18-_9E0HNY4.html
@@fudgepacker2858 to be fair, the characters are meant to only exist for the single game, as it's a prequel (not to mention canon). Granted, Bungie went for overall emotional rather then individual character emotions but as i mentioned, the characters only existed for the one game. On the other hand, every developer has to innovate if they want to survive, after all, people don't know what they want until you give it to them. Some feature/ideas succeed more than anticipated while others are a complete disaster. Armour lock is merely a drop of water in the ocean; theres a lot like it and it's not everyones first choice but it is a necessary option to give players. If you think about it, it's similar to the Bubble Shield but instead of healing you (and allowing you limited movement), armour lock makes you invincible but forces you to stay still, allowing enemies to ambush you
Halo Reach in my mind defined what the 7th gen tried to be. It actually was cinematic gaming. Also I don't care what old fans say, adding equipment was the best choice Bungie ever made. Halo 1 was a nearly unplayable slog of long ass hallways and huge open fields. Halo 2 solved it by just trimming down the map size and 3 gave us some actually good vehicle combat sections. But Reach actually gave us a unique mechanical solution to the problem. Having to choose between such radically different choices of equipmentr really makes for an interesting game.
Amazing video and I 100% agree, I can't get over how amazing it still looks. I think you said it best with the fact it's also the details that make it so Amazing, and I think that applies to the whole game, 343 doesn't even come close
