If you are having a problem launching the game try this: remove this file: "steamapps/common/Halo The Master Chief Collection/easyanticheat/easyanticheat_x64 . so" Then launch using the "Play Halo: MCC Anti-Cheat Disabled (Mods and Limited Services)" option.
Oh my god I can’t believe I didn’t even try because it was labeled as unsupported, thanks so much. They really should be more differentiated when it comes to these labels. I’ve encountered other games as well that are also listed as unsupported that work perfectly fine
Often, unsupported means either a) there isn't even any community support for the game or b) the game uses anti-cheat for online play. If you click on the game it will give you a more detailed list as to why its labeled 'unsupported'.
@@mitwhitgaming7722 But it’s not just that. Take Arkham City for example, that was actually labeled as fully supported and I played it, but then it was later changed to unsupported with the text that valve is still trying to support this game for the steam deck. That made me realize that maybe arkham asylum and arkham knight who are also listed as unsupported might actually work anyway, and it’s true, they worked perfectly. There is no detailed description, just that valve is "working on it"
Thanks for confirming the audio issue I knew something was wrong! I noticed my deck runs cooler with the older fan profile selected in settings. I've been having a blast with MCC on deck. First thing that came to my mind when the deck was announced last year!
Halo fans unite! I immensely appreciate your video my friend. Halo is my all-time fav game. I was debating about getting the Deck but seeing as how even Infinite runs on it (decently 30-40 fps on low/med) well shit, I am sold 😁
In order to get better battery life in these games play around with your Steam Deck's wattage under the TDP setting under the performance section of the quick access menu. If you are trying to hit 60fps consistently and drop the wattage too low you might encounter frame-time inconsistency. One example here is for Reach I locked the game to 40fps and was able to get a consistent frame-time locking the Steam Deck's TDP to 7 Watts. This greatly improved both the battery life and thermals.
This is what I have done as well to reduce power consumption and reduce thermals. Currently I've been using 10 watts for 60fps but 7 watts at 40fps sounds fair. I'll give that a shot.
My only major gripe with MCC apart from the anti cheat is the mandatory Xbox login. As someone who doesn't have much interest in Halo apart from campaign and solo Firefight mode (I play with friends on occasion), the requirement is little more than an annoying DRM. Lovely video + demonstration as always.
Thank you so much for covering halo a few mounts ago I was gonna buy a steamdeck but decided beforehand to look up a few games I play on the regular to see how they perform and there was just no talks of halo
Just out of curiosity what are some of the other games you were searching for running on the Deck? I'm always looking to help people out and find games that don't have a ton of coverage.
@@SteelLodge hiya. I was wondering if Halo 5, Halo Infinite, Batman Arkham Series, Marvel Spider Man, Miles Morales Spidey, maybe Kingdom Hearts and Persona games
Amazing to see! Now workshop is out going to see lots of great mods soon too. I hope they enable mouse and thumb stick at the same time so gyro can play more nicely.
It's a very comprehensive overview of Halo on Steam Deck, well done. I'm very pleased whith how well Halo MCC works on Steam Deck. I'd go as far as saying that Halo is one of the best titles to test and showcase Steam Deck to people. It just works so well.
Thank you! I have looked at the collection and passed it up because it said unsupported. i just picked it up for $16 from steam. I don't multiplayer so it was a steal!
What kind of monitor are you using to capture footage and play on? Every time I connect my Steam Deck to a TV or iPad it darkens the screen really bad.
I'm having trouble with Halo CE on my Steam Deck. Reach worked flawlessly, but CE is stuttering pretty regularly. Any idea why this might be? Could it perhaps have run into issues while downloading or something?
@@timothyhenderson8447 Nope. But the game is still playable if played in the original game mode. So that's what I ended up doing. But Valve is working on getting the game verified for the Steam Deck it seems, so just hold tight.
Very good video, and yes i totally only like to play Halo 1 with the original graphics, I never liked the anniversary art style changes. (Except Halo 2 anniversary)
if the other players are also playing with Anti-Cheat off you can do co-op campaign, firefight, and custom games no problem. it's only matchmaking that's unavailable
Going forward in my analysis video I'll do a bit more testing to try and find the optimal TDP to help out the viewers. Appreciate the suggestion, I just forget about messing with the setting sometimes with it tucked away just out of view!
I have both of those issues. The game won't start even after six tries with multiple diffrent Proton versions. Earlier I was able to get it to launch, but the since deck update 3.3 dropped MCC doesn't only lower the volume of the game for me, but also mutes any steam interface sounds too. I tried several Proton versions and as well as reinstalling the game, but haven't found a solution. Is the volume OK for you when using bluetooth speakers?
I think I have that same issue with the steam interface sounds being muted while in game for the MCC. I haven't tried out Bluetooth speakers with it, but the volume is fine on my headphones I plug in.
Try to delete the easyanticheat directory. You can do that in Desktop mode. Regarding the audio, try changing the audio device in game to the 'raven' labeled one.
@@freakencreeper1685 I've had this happen in other games. You can try to click on the cog next to the game and select developer then Delete Proton files. If that doesn't work, reinstalling might work. Also launching the game in desktop mode might help. I've had some games not launch in game mode because of launcher prompts.
@Freakencreeper 1 at first it wouldn't boot, but would boot when I turn my Wi-Fi off, but needed Wi-Fi to sign in to my Microsoft account for it to let me play so I turned My Wi-Fi back on my deck while it was booting showing the developers, because when I turned the Wi-Fi back on while fully booted asking to sign into my Microsoft account it kick me off the game, so turned off the Wi-Fi booted the game while showing developers turn the Wi-Fi back on then works, but won't boot while Wi-Fi is on but will while off.
Can u customize your spartan and stuff? Cuz if you don't have anti cheat on it wouldn't let u play multi-player, right? So no online progression, no armory stuff 😢
Halo Master Chief Collection Works now, well kind of but expect problems on the Steam Deck crashes and other things but this time Campaign and hell even Online Multiplayer is working on it, Firefight too and challenges that you do count towards your season points and well as that important XP, I think you may need to update your video on Halo Master Chief Collection dude.
This game is unplayable on steamdeck for me. Constant frame rate issues and you can’t play online. Always get the anti cheat software error thing. Very disappointing.
I have an issue where all the reticles and UI elements get squished in the native 16x10 aspect ratio. Switching to 16x9 corrects it but I don't see anybody mentioning the issue anywhere. Is there a setting I missed potentially?

Getting bad stutters with this game. Not sure if it’s the steam deck or the game. It’s runs at a good frame rate but randomly stutters occasionally making it not worth playing for me.
The thing that annoy me the most about the halo remasters on my pc is that they run like absolute garbage. Even though my pc is way above the minimum spec requirments and yes if you ask me to share specs I will do it.
Does anyone have a solution to signing into your Microsoft account when launching the game for first time? When I bring up the onscreen keyboard to try and type in my account info it doesn’t work for me. Not sure what I’m trying wrong.
I bought Halo infinite for my steam deck. I downloaded and installed it. Once I play the game I cannot get past the sign in screen. It basically freezes at the sign in screen. Can anybody help me figure out how to fix this?
UPDATE * i was able to fix my problem by deleting the anti cheat folder in desktop steam in local folders... and still select the second option when starting game (disabling anti cheat) ..........(original post).......hello everyone, i downloaded halo MCC and installed proton in desktop mode went back to steam mode change the compatibility to 7.0-4 which is available 7.0-3 isn’t available as i saw in your video, i also tried GE and others.. following this video with disabling anti cheats, my game just won’t start.. i’ve tried about 8 times in a row with different protons with anti cheat disabled… any tips?? thanks.. i really want to play my favorite games lol
Honestly, since Halo MCC uses EAC, it should be fairly straight forward for them to build the game with it enabled for Linux. Epic games, who make EAC, build up the system so it would be easier for developers to implement for Linux use, they just have to check some boxes to generate the files, then manually move them to a specific directory, I believe. So it really shouldn't be too difficult for the devs to do it, they just have to have that as a higher priority on their TODO list. Some devs just don't know about it, some are just lazy, and others just don't care.
Got to make it work, using the anti-cheat tweak, but I have a weird problem that I have noticed mainly for Halo 4, the font and UI ( especially on masterchief overlay ) are very pixelated, has anyone encountered that? Graphics are set to enhanced and the anti alias is activated...
ah dang i wish you would show us the Halo 2 MP Anniversary Graphics, how the steam deck runs this. you know, H2A MP is not the same as H2A Campaign Graphics. H2A MP is Actually an Polished Halo 4 Engine that makes it extra unique only few things have different behavior (like Banshee in H2A MP doesnt have Torpedos, Wraith and Scorpion doesnt have a Turret, and the - i guess so - Falcon has been added Back into the game, but as a Hornet Model and Flying-Behavior*) (*since Halo 4 engine is just upgraded from reach engine and has many ported over cut files like weapons and vehicles in the Game files, i guess the Hornet in H2A MP is the added back Falcon from Reach)
@@SteelLodge i found out what it was I just had to delete the folder that had the easy anticheat in it but I do have a follow up question, when signing in how can you bring up the keyboard to type?
Not me lmao once I've started playing Halo 2 back in like 2008 on the PC it made the graphics on Halo CE look pretty outdated, let alone these days in 2023 lmao
@@EmpireZzzz 120+ million gamers disagree with you, you clown. The Steam Wreck even struggled to sell a million units in its first year what a joke. The Deck is the worst device EVER, it’s also the UGLIEST to 🤮🤮🤮
