One absolute game changer. DO NOT HAVE TOO MANY THINGS IN QUEUE you want to have things building, but not in queue. This is one of the first steps to becoming an advance player. And it slows you down a lot. Example: you have a main and a mini. But you build two supply pad on your main. One is building and the other is in queue so it takes 60 seconds (made that up). Instead build one on your main and one on mini, by the time 30 seconds is up, you have 2 supply pads because they're building at the same time. This has so many applications instead of picking a bunch of upgrades from the armory, pick one and upgrade vehicles or something else. By the time the armory is done researching, you'll have enough power to buy something else. But you'd get a vehicle upgrade that you otherwise wouldn't have Edit: few more tips. Don't have your army next to a base, especially your first one, unless you're absolutely sure it's going to get attacked. Instead, have it within walking distance of the 2 bases so if either gets attacked you can get to them quickly and defend. Build watch/sensor tower. Especially if there is a cliff overlooking your base. If you don't. A competent player will set up seige and make life hell for you. Guarantee you'll quit. If your teammates gets ganged up on and you're too far to help. Attack your enemies base. They can't be in two places at the same time. Make him lose a base for ganging up on your teammates. Don't let them beat on your buddies for free. 2v1v1 isn't the same as 2v2. If your teammate does a 1v2 and lose everything. Then you show up and play 1v2. I can almost guarantee you'll lose too. Situational, but use that knowledge to your advantage Lastly, help your teammate with map control in the beginning of games ffs. And take your mini immediately. If Your opponent wants your mini, they already decided before the game even starts. Try fighting for the supply in the middle. Supply by your base will be there unless your teammate is a scum bag. And if you're a scumbag reading this then eff you. go steal your opponents' shit. Not your teammate's
That last one was great, there will be so many times I’m trying to capture power nodes or bully an enemies mini base, and my teammate is just jerking off in the corner upgrading his population cap or something. Like he’ll either have 10 population just collecting supplies, or he’ll have half an army just sitting at the base doing nothing. Bro, it’s a combat game, send them out to fight
Trust me you will want to make a mix of units in HW2. Try having some vehicles, some infantry, and some air units. These are generally the strongest and hardest armies to kill. Also snipers are busted for killing infantry units so abuse them when necessary. Also i highly recommend building atleast 2 turrets on your base before even hitting tech 2.
I agree with the last comment, Just make sure you’re pumping power and credits, Spend power on upgrading main base and upgrading unit down time first. While doing that focus on making an army that’s diverse. Just do a little of everything. Air, Ground, Heavy ground, Snipers. Just make it even and move into heavy vehicles later game. You’ll load on players if you keep units moving around the map while your “waiting” on resources. Just run around find things out. You lose an army? Who cares just make another really cheap core infantry troop army until you can dish out some monster Scarabs or anything of the like
I’ve tried multiple times to get into halo wars 2 but it’s so hard for me. I get overwhelmed trying to be efficient. And my opponents always Seem to have more troops than me
If your playing against ai or really good players they will always have an early game small army of some sort. Focusing on economy is a playstyle suited for certain heroes. I highly recommend getting some marines early game with snipers ir if playing a covenant hero get some grunts and get tech 2 as fast as possible. Covenant dont have good early game units but their heroes are very powerful compared to the UNSC heroes so getting your hero is another option. Fastest hero rush in the game is 1. Build an power gen/ extractor 2. Build a supply pad/ harvestor 3. Upgrade your power gen/ extractor from step 1 and repeat step 2 4. Build a war council 5. Make your hero when the war council is built. Keep in mind their are faster ways to get your hero out but this way not only gets out your hero relatively fast but also builds your economy very very well. Also if you used your starting units to get some supplies then you can also build an extra marine or 2 grunts early on to either capture nodes, get more resources on the map, or defend yourself if need be. Just keep in mind to upgrade those 2 supply pads/ harvesters after you have build your hero. Dont do it before or else you wont have the power to build your hero. If you gathered power on the map you can get away with this.
I would love to see a video breaking down some key differences between hw1 and hw2. I absolutely loved hw1 and have just now gotten into hw2. 2 seems to be much faster paced. Handling it pretty well considering but would love some tips for a hw1 veteran going into hw2.
One thing i would suggest/rule before going to multiplayer: Finish singleplayer on legendary reaching gold medals in every single mission. Not only you will know what destructive abilities you can expect and how to counter them, you will also learn efficiency of each unit, you will learn how to spread troops & use abilities + you will have it shown on your profile that you completed all missions on legendary. If you have a friend to play with, you can complete co-op legendary, again will be shown on your profile :)
Great video. I'd also recommend learning the hot keys for Halo wars 2. Learning to cycle through units and buildings on the d-pad can be much faster than scrolling through the manually and that's really helpful for late games when everyone is rushing to get units on the field.
Something I'd add: After queuing your first few buildings of a game, spread out your starting squads to gather resources around the map. Each box of supply or power gives as much as it's respective building, which can really give you an edge. Also- after sending out your units- make a scout unit at your base and send it out to see what your enemies are doing. If they have one or several infantry buildings early on- prepare for a rush.
I dont know what to do I literally cant compete I'm rep 11 and these guys online just destroy me I wish it had like a balanced skill based matchmaking I keep getting in with rep 99s
Lovely! Thanks for making this. I'm not a total noob when it comes to the Halo Wars games, but it's always nice to get my thoughts and priorities straightened out.
Just picked the game up 2-3 days ago and I’m loving it. I feel like I start out great because I follow your steps one by one. But around 10 minutes and later on in game I feel like I am not using my resources efficiently. Like I’m just randomly uprgrading anything I can. Think you could make a guide on what we should be doing at different times of the game? Like what we should be doing around 2 minutes, 5, 10, then late stages of games. Sorry if this is confusing haha I couldn’t figure out how to word my question lol
Currently a level 86, instead of watching videos specifically about what to do at different time intervals I recommend watching videos about specific heroes you enjoy, personally, I believe that some hero’s deserve different upgrades at the same time intervals so knowing how to navigate your specific hero I believe is more essential, do note that hero videos may be slightly old and some hero’s have been nerfed/buffed, hope this helps
so id like to argue against rule one and hear your thoughts. i always build my gen first. Reasons are i dont have to fight over the contested power supplies, though a huge advantage if i get both. Second is i rush my heros usally atriox and upgrade him immediately. third is if you get gen first you are able to instantly upgrade the supply pad as soon as its built.
I had no clue this game is still alive. I've still been playing halo wars 1 and just decided to beat the campaigns of 1 and 2. I'll probably play the multiplayer again, but I still have the wars 1 strats in my brain but those won't work
not really sure how to improve really. i feel like im not doing too terribly. my friends and i try to play 3v3 or 2v2 and we always lose so badly. i don't even want to play against other people than my friends, but they don't want to play me. i enjoy this game, but losing literally every online game isn't fun. i already know im going to lose when everyone is like rank 99 and we are rank 10. they need to match us against people our level. like im at the point where i just troll and quit early on them because we stand no chance anyways.
I have to disagree on building the supply pad first. My build order (as UNSC at least) is 1: generator. 2: supply pad x2. And 3: marines. The reason for the generator first is simply so I can get my power income boosted much sooner as early game power can be hard to come by. It also allows me to upgrade all of my economy buildings just a little bit faster. But I find the return on investment to be worth it
For the second tip you gave about building a supply pad first, it depends on how your going to play throughout the game. For instance hero rushing is much faster with a gen first. Also going early game snipers is much better with a gen first. Simply build a gen, queue up a supply pad, make an extra marine, and upgrade the gen. If you also grabbed the supplies on the map you will be able to queue up you next supply pad aswell and upgrade the first supply pad. If you don't grab the supplies on the map i recommend not making the extra marine so you can use the 150 supplies to make a supply pad instead.
The game is complete BS the AI will make your own guys move in benefit for the computers AI so it'll group all your team together so they I can do one Magic special hit and kill all your soldiers. Auto make all your soldiers move without you controlling them in. Favor of the opposing enemy, which sucks as you should be able to control your own team at all time.
How do your u quick slot an air pad or mech map? You know how you quick slot units, how do you quick slot a pad so I don’t have to go to base to produce units any help Xbox
I'm genuinely terrible at this game. Been playing for 4 hours I think played like 12 games and one 3, 2 of those people disconnected. Yet I just want to learn because it's very addicting. Hopefully I can get a few wins one day.
My tip as someone still relatively fresh to the game is to actually attack your opponents. I spent a lot of games where I would just sit at my base and try to build up an army and upgrade it and get wiped out because my opponents would keep pressure on me. It took me a few battles to learn that I actually need to put a bit of pressure on them, if nothing else simply to keep them off of my back. You don't necessarily have to go and try to take them out with a rush, but making them spend troops and resources defending a base that you are trying to strip can help immensely.
Very good tip. I've been playing this one for about 2 months. It is really hard to get used to this, and I'm still trying. But you have to be aggressive or else you will get wiped fast.
Wow I had this same issue when I first started playing. Now I either immediately start making anti rush units or enough flame throwers to just piss off the oponnet lol
Never played halo wars 2, played halo wars a lot back when it released. Say maybe a decade ago? Lol. Just started playing halo wars again and it’s pretty dead so I’ll be trying halo wars 2 after it downloads!! Can’t wait. I’ve heard 50/50 reviews comparing its to the first one
The few times i played esp 2v2 and a rare 3v3 i try not to go past 4 power extractors/generators or only pay for the 3rd extractor. Upgrading a generator is when i start training and taking nodes. Then i lose kuz ima kevin
1 knowing building orders do you want to teck fast? start with a gen and cue suplies so you dont risk not geting suplies and upgrade allot but option 2 do you want to play agresivly? start with suplie pads and you will fall behind in the teck deparment but you might given you team time for them to teck up and set the enemy back 3 minibases are easily over locked so if you put a generator there its more then likely to just get forgoten bout as the time goes on but only if you have som uch suplies you dont know what do do with it and 4 ANTI ANTI ANTI ANTI dont go for one kind off unit as it will end up with your demies and dont fall behind to upgrade the top bosst for damage and health% for that kind off unit
I loved halo defenitive edition and I was like halo wars 2 it looks older I have it a shot I LOVED IT I asked my mom for some of the dlc characters every day
I get 4 shields lol, then I use nothing but healing drknes to shield it up while all of them heal the shielded one lol them it regens and then I keep bringing out scarabs one right after the other to protect the base and vise versa.
@@TeamRespawn do you have any tips for this? I like to 1v1 my friend and he is very aggressive. I can usually hold his attack back but then I have little to no units to counter attack. Eventually he widdles me down and I lose.
