"Everything is grey, his hair, his smoke, his dreams" I feel like a lot of people miss out on the part where she says his dreams. He's older and his dreams have dulled. Not the optimistic young mind anymore.

The lyrics that stand out to me the most are “and now he’s so devoid of color he don’t know what it means” and it hits me so hard bc it’s how I feel. I’ve been in a rut for so long that my passion for damn near everything is gone. Like all the color has faded. And I don’t remember what it was like to have passion and vibrancy in anything and I don’t know what it means either. I know I’ll get out of this rut someday but I just thought I’d share how crazy that one line in a song can so accurately describe who you are and how you feel. Bless you all.

I'm a recovering fentanyl addict. "Blues" is a street name for the drug and blues used to consume my WHOLE life. My hair, my dreams, ambitions etc did all become gray- I didn't give a F about anything. I have no idea why this song was written and probably not about what I shared but it doesn't even matter. Music is like a living word, it means something different to everyone. This song gently took me to a place that reminded me where I don't ever want to go again. It was the perfect reminder at the perfect time. Amazing song, amazing performance by an amazing Artist!

daaaaamn halsey, back at it again with the white dad

“You're ripped at every edge but you're a masterpiece And you're tearing through the pages and the ink. Everything is grey, His hair, his smoke, his dreams and he's devoid of colours he don't know what it means.” The whole song especially these lines reminds me so much of Santiago Alatorre (a book character) whose personality becomes dull and his world becomes gray because of his depression and trauma. It's like the song was made in regard to him.

So with this video it always bugged me because I just thought it was so extra and didn't really fit the song well. That is until I looked at the song and video from a different perspective: That this whole story is actually about Tyler getting dumped by Halsey for his dad and the song "Colors" is Tyler's letter to Halsey. (I know it sounds crazy but hear me out and I'm not saying this was the directors intention I just think it's a really cool concept) Now let me explain. Whenever she says "you" she is relaying a message that Tyler said to her. So basically it goes like this- Tyler: Your (halseys) little brother never never tells you he loves you so, you said your mother only smiles at her TV show, you're only happy when your sorry head is filled with dope, I hope you make it to the day you're 28 years old. Halsey is the only one shown to be smoking (looked like pot aka dope) in the video. Halsey wants to be a pop star, and we all know about the famous people dying before 28 thing. If it were about Halseys love interest (the dad) OBVIOUSLY he's past 28, plus we've no indication he smokes. Why was that shot of Halsey smoking shown if it wasn't talking about her? Tyler: You're dripping like a saturated sunrise, you're spilling like an over flowing sink, you're ripped at every edge but you're a master peace...etc Even though she's completely nuts and going down the wrong path he still loves her, still thinks she's beautiful. Then there's the chorus, which is obviously about his dad. I mean the little blue pills, grey hair, that's obvious. So i think it's Tyler saying his dad is colorless, no dreams no hopes. He doesn't really have a future but his actions keep affecting Tyler's life. I mean he did steal Tyler's girl lol. The part that really sealed it for me was my favorite line "You were red and you liked me because I was blue. but you touched me and suddenly I was a lilac sky till you decided purple just wasn't for you" Through the whole song Tyler's dad has been referred to as blue or grey. So why now is he being known as red? It doesn't make sense. Which is why i think that Tyler is saying Halsey is red and Tyler was like his father in being blue. He liked that she was different and she liked him because he was like his dad. Being with her made him different too. However after being together she realized he was different from is dad and not a good enough substitute so she left. Anyways I know it's kind of all over the place but hopefully it made sense. I just thought it was a neat idea. EDIT: I realized rereading it that I put dying "at" 28 instead of "before". Also, I know the song is actually about Matt Healy. Just about every one knows that lol. I'm just talking about my interpretation of the video in regards to the song. So please stop saying "Not uh iz about Matt Healy"

To my understanding, Halsey came out and said the song was about growing apart from an ex that was dealing with the drugs problems. I do think there's an additional meaning that comes with the video. And it's not just a simple crush that she has on the older man. I think it's why so many people are feeling confused disgust when watching the video. The song/video is about molestation. The girl played by Halsey was molested by the father and is reacted to the immense conflict that happens after being victimized hence the reason she's acting "creepy" as well. Sexual violence in situations like these is often invisible and it's why the video doesn't show this theme directly, but the song expresses something deeply wrong. Most of the song she's referring to someone "you" which I interpret as speaking to herself, often because after these experiences, you detach from yourself. Him refers to the older man. The exception is when she's speaking in the middle instead of singing. "You're only happy when your sorry head is filled with dope I hope you make it to the day you're 28 years old" - Attempting to cope with violence is incredibly hard "You're ripped at every edge but you're a masterpiece" she's been affected by violence, but still able to put on a face to the world to make it invisible. "Everything is blue" Blue represents themes like trust, cleanliness, peace, serenity and similar themes, which is why the only thing blue of the older man is his eyes, because he only appears trustworthy and peaceful. It's why Tyler, her school, and her room, her safe places have blue color all over "Pulled apart at the seams" similar as ripped at every edge, the attack is destroy her "Everything is grey" grey is lifeless, lack of personality, lack of humanity. He's the grey one "his hair" which really reflects the older man "And now he's so devoid of color" being he's completely inhuman "And I'm still waking every morning but it's not with you" another disconnect between her and herself "You were red and you liked me 'cause I was blue" highlighting this directly to him with speaking it, She was young, peaceful, youthful, innocent while he's red, a color of violence and passion, and rage. "You touched me and suddenly I was a lilac sky And you decided purple just wasn't for you" He touched her with his "red" (violence, anger, etc) and changed her innocence, her peace and made her "purple" combining these two colors. He decided he didn't like what happened after he "corrupted" her with his violence and tossed her aside. Which is why she's so desperate to get his attention and so obsessed with the older man in such a "Creepy" way, because she's broken by his violence and doesn't know anything but his violence as affection. A psychology that can affect many people that experience this attack from someone they thought was close to them. It's also why all the scenes with light nudity aren't sexual whatsoever. Especially with her exposed back or underwear, the scenes are often way more innocent and purity than sexuality at all. That was fun. Good song and video
