I love mom's voice and accent. She sounds like my mom, bif and toorky. That's how you know is going to be tasty. Nothing like mom's food and her invaluable teachings. Hurray for moms everywhere.
Had tears in my eyes listening to your mother talk, I cooked lots with my grandmother ( mothers mom ) she was from Ukraine and my grandfather was from Poland, she would talk and explain the whole process every time eventhough I had helped her dozens of times I just loved to hear her voice. On my dads side it was the opposite with a little chezk and Austrian thrown in. I make mine a little different with bacon but no carrots, sometimes I put in ground pork or beef, i also leave my rice a bit on the tough side so it sucks up the juice. We use tomatoe or clamato juice depending on which is on sale, I buy 2 sacks of cabbage in early fall, 1 I blanch and freese for cabbage rolls (Holopchi) and the other I shred for sauerkraut (Capoosta). When I'm done with rolling (filling; rice, bacon, onion, garlic, salt, pepper) into the cabbage I cover them with the tomato juice so they are submerged and put bacon rind on top then pour tomato soup over top. I usually cook at 350 for 2.5 to 3 hours or until the center is 180° and cabbage is soft. Thank you for the memories, i just made some with my neighbor for Easter Sunday.
Yes!!! So glad to see momma and the amazingly beautiful daughter back in the kitchen!! When i hear her speaking Ukrainian it makes my heart skip a beat. Please, please, more of this content!!!!
So happy to see this. My mom's family is Slovak and not only did my mom teach me how to make this dish but I recognize all of the eastern European mannerisms in your mom! Never measures anything, it's all "easy", so much love for feeding the family with wholesome food. Love it!
By looking at the oven , she does a lot of cooking. Every 3 years needs a new stove. . I'd say don't worry about the looks of the stove. It just shows you how much cooking you do. 100% Ukrainian here. My mom was like your mom. Cooking everyday for us.
What a blessing to have mama show you how to cook delicious food according to family tradition. I miss mine and she be proud how I learned from her. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@clairewood9607 I'm from Holland, and for i can see the most of the ingredients i see are available in Polish supermarkets over here so in UK should it be likely the same.
Hope you and your family are safe, and healthy this holiday. Your mother seems so kind, and she's an expert in the cabbage roll making dept. God bless you & your family, Slava Ukraine.
Girl, what sweet memories you’re making with your mama. So so proud of you guys, everyone swears their moms’ recipes are the best but your mom is an awesome cook and everything I’ve ever had that was made by her was on another level!
Mama and Pops GQ have raised one heck of an amazing family. And Mama always looks fantastic. Wish all the best for the entire family. This is what America is about.
Came here for more of the Goonzquad family I love watching so much. Momma's food always looks so amazing! There is something so beautiful seeing a mother passing a tradition to her daughter.
Absolutely love when Mom cooks…I ate them regularly in my house…I had told u before My fathers parents were from Ukraine 🇺🇦…..He is now 88 and we watch your and the brothers channels together….My father understands Ukraine…It reminds him of his mother….Oh My Grandma didn’t use V-8 ….Tell mom and dad we said hello from fellow Ukraines
So delish! I must make a nice batch. I love how mom gives a sense of urgency in everything she does. Jenetta is just beautiful and looks so much like a young version of her momma. I enjoyed watching you both work together and share this dish. I love the whole family.
An they don't sit in front of stuip video games they are actually being very good steward for the world we live in working there butts off this whole family is amazing 👏
You two are adorable together. When I was little, a Polish lady lived near us and she and my mom made these! We used pork and called them Pigs in a blanket. For most Americans, Pigs in a blanket are hotdogs in a pastry roll. Not at our house.😊
OMG in heaven ...my mama used to make stuffed cabbage rolls. Miss her and the wonderful food. Love this very special channel ...and Goonzquad mama and her beautiful daughter. So much love here. Interesting to see the V8 juice from my childhood and mama would have used Campbells tomato soup. Lightly sweet and no carrots. Bet this is yummy too. :-)
Oooo I'm n love oooboy I'm digging it thank you Mom goonzquad for sharing your wonderful recipes good family value you have with your own God bless you please pass the napkins
Stuffed cabbage, and peppers are the staple the world over. In Asia, the Middle East, all over the Americas, Europe, amd everywhere I have been there is an offshoot of this recipe. Thanks for the video, know it will be watched a lots.
Looks so delicious, reminds me of one Middle Eastern recipe: stuffed grape leaves. And as your mom said, different countries adapted the recipe to their own way. Love momma Goonz
Those look incredible! I grew up eating cabbage rolls here in Appalachia. My mom's recipe was very similar although she did not pre-cook the meat mixture. She also used Campbell's tomato soup instead of V8 juice. The broth in the bottom of the pot was so good you could drink it. I personally can't cook well at all but this has inspired me to run to the store and grab some ingredients to make this recipe. I don't think I've eaten cabbage rolls since my mother passed several years ago. I'll make some in her honor.
I love this so much. You guys are like the most wholesome people, a true testament to why immigrants are truly what makes America Great! Big tight family that is full of love! An example to what Americans should strive to be!
In romania we call it sarmale. I’ve tried many variants of this dish in many countries (most of the Balkan countries; tried them in Odessa also) but none of them are as tasty as my mom makes them. Food is the one thing that always reminds me of my mom (probably more than pictures or videos) and how much I love and miss her. Thank you goonzquad family! I love everything that you all create and share with us and the emotions behind 👍 P.S.: While I was writing this comment my older sister dropped me this message: “You guys come by. I’ve made sarmale” 🤯
Shoutout to you from Egypt 🇪🇬 I think moms are the same all over the world I just couldn’t stop laughing when you mom guilt trikes you about the homeland food Just classic mom’s stuff Our cabbage rolls are much smaller than yours I wish I can show you a picture
Looks delicious! My wife and I really enjoy your videos cooking with your mom. Such a blessing for you to be able to learn from her and grateful you also share with us. Take care!
I make my grandmothers Ukrainian cabbage rolls with our family recipe it is pretty close to this one.. great video I wish she taught us the language she said that we did not need to know the language which is sad nowadays.. Grandmother was Ukrainian and Grandfather was Hungarian and neither taught the language
Excellent recipe, I love stuffed cabbage rolls and this looks and sounds delicious. Really good seeing mama and daughter cooking together. Thank you for posting.
I had galupsi in my trips to Kharkiv and Donetsk . Your mother cooks with very good ingredients. Avocado oil is rated well, Chosen was rated #1 in controlled studies.
Hello, I am from Guatemala. We eat cabbage in soups and as a dressing in our own version of hot dog (toast bread over charcoal, guacamole, mustard, we named Shucos -since those are street food this words mean filthy food, as a kind of joke-. I try Yeats ago a similar dish at Nicaragua, street food is known as Fritanga (they cook in a griddle meat, chorizo, eggs, cheese, lot of things. I try a very delicious dish named Niño dormido (Sleeping child, literal translate); is a cabbage leaf stuffed with rice and meat fried on the grill next to the fat of everything else, wonderfull. The Halupki remans me my experience of Nicaragua. You are doing a very nice job, we do not know your culture and traditions, thank you for kindness. Happy holidays!
That looks so delicious. Your mom needs to open a food truck. With food like that she'll sell out before noon for sure. I enjoyed this video a lot, it's a lost art when kids don't learn to cook from their moms and dads. Stay safe. Aloha from Kansas
I love this! I've been looking at cabbage roll recipes all over RU-vid and this is by far my favorite. Your mom reminds me of my ex's mom, her food was my first introduction to Ukrainian food and I loved it so much, I miss her cooking every day (probably more than I miss my ex, haha!) and now I want to learn some of the dishes that I've been craving lately! I love the warmth and generous hearts of Ukrainian families. At times I feel a connection to your culture because they're so similar to Hispanic culture (I grew up in a Puerto Rican household) in a lot of ways. Valuing spending time together with good food is one of them, and something I hold dear to my heart
This is interesting. My family immigrated to the US from Slovakia, and my great grandmother passed down her family recipe for halupki to us (I grew up across the street from her), but we never put onions in ours. Or carrots. Just meat (ground beef) and rice, plus the cabbage leaves, of course, and we cooked it in tomato soup. It's really interesting to see a Ukrainian version from a much more recent immigrant family.
Fabulous video - nice to cook together and learn your Mom's secrets - she's a real pro at tucking in the ends of the cabbage - I guess with practice it gets easier - cheers from Canada
“Why cry? I love the onion and the onion loves me” I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I love your mama!!! I wish she was mine!!! Also, the onions make me cry! Does that means they do not love me?????? 😂
My mom in law when she didn’t have time would sometimes make lazy man cabbage rolls. Just cut up the cabbage and mix it all together. Cook it same as rolled ones. Fantastic. Miss her every day.
Ukraine is neighbour with Romania , we make the cabbage rolls similar with this, and we call them " sarmale " - for stuffing we put rice and grounded pork meat ,spiced with salt ,peper , then tomatos sos above...very good with sourcream, polenta and some hot pepper
My Mother made these once when I was a kid, I know now why it was only once :) Thank you both for bringing back a fond memory for me. I hope to make this one day soon, my Brother and I are thinking about it, might be this weekend! Thank you again!
Love it! I swear I can smell it from here just watching you 2 making it, so jealous I.m not there lol, reminds me of my mom only it was half English half german spoke in the kitchen. lmao
