I'm somewhat new to DMR, but I gave a presentation about the SharkRF OpenSpot at our last meeting (Walker County Amateur Radio Group) and there's a couple old timers interested in digital comms. With the HF bands what they are lately they really like the idea of digital modes via the internet. Having a radio to set one of them up with could go a long way towards getting the others to pull the trigger on a hotspot and radio. We have no digital repeaters in range, making it a tough decision for them. Get one old timer hooked and reel in the rest. KG5TNK MD2017
Jason Do NOT worry about donation links (this is an expensive hobby), your honest un-bought reviews, like you do, are very worth it, so if I see your donation links, I will make a donation,(just make sure it is micropayments and they don't take much of cut) - We all know your shows can and do save US money -- so thanks for the shows that are professional, sound is good and the integrity matters! KEEP THEM COMING (especially with all the new modes, new equipment) - I watch when I can !!
Good day Jason, Wonderful channel . Thank you for all your hard work, finally a channel I can watch that peeks my interest. I am a fairly new ham. I'm all about paying it forward so if I'm picked to win this radio I will in return donate a piece of my equipment with a promotion of your channel to let them know why I'm paying it forward. 73, WK9K
Hi Jason this is why I would like to be the one that wins the DMR Radio! I am a relatively New HAM I acquired my Technician and General License last February (2017) after waiting since Middle School to get my ticket. I am totally new to DMR and enjoyed your video I just today received my DMR ID (2-21-18) and I want to be able to show my 12yr old son all the features and capabilities that DMR has to offer to further peak his interest in the Hobby (especially with the so many distractions with smart devices his age group is exposed to now days) to get him to start working on his Technician License and get him excited about HAM radio ( I think that the text messaging will really peak his interest) Last year my 74yr old Mom got her Technician License because of my enthusiasm of the hobby (had my license less than a year and became my Mom’s Elmer LOL) and I want to keep that trend going in my Family. As I just received my DMR ID today now I really need a good DMR Radio and hope to have to buy a matching one for my son in the very near future!!! Thanks for all you do and I am also a new subscriber to your great channel 73’s. KN4BDZ
Thats a nice radio were all new to DMR myself included i got a md-390 gps i cant use it as much as id like to because of its random restarts and yes i have tried reinstalling firmware no luck and no money for a newer radio kids comes first. Love your videos you helped out alot thanks. 73 n1ghi
How was the performance difference between the antennas supplied with the MD2017 and Retevis, right now I am running a Powerwerx but wonder about the ip67 rating being effected, it looks like the base of the antenna acts as seal.
not sure if you noticed during cut. When you said the Retevis would not want to sink to the OpenSpot, I noticed the green (receive) light was on That would explain why. (Arount 17:00). I already have the md-380G and the Radioddity GD-77. I have to say I am happy with the GD-77 as It works great wit my OpenSpeot and it cost me just under $90. Great video by the way. Thanks for all the info you bring. 73, ad0am
Very new to ham radio don't even have a dmr subscription. Been watching your videos since the first few episodes. Love the work. Keep it up. Will be contacting you when time to buy my quad band mobile. 73 Lindsay Hicks. KG5USC
This video was debuting the tools for the dual-band model. He might not have it posted yet. He has a FB Group called DMR Track, and his website is here: kg5rki.com/new2/index.html
Will Tom's software work with the RT82? I sent the question to him a few days ago and no response. I am trying to program the RT82 and I can not get the drivers to install properly to use their software, so I am hoping that Tom's software does not require manually installing the drivers. Thanks for your time. Tom Stiles
I have the MD2017, I am not completely happy with it, I have owned other Retevis products and they feel more signal sensitive and the controls are more refined. Mine and my brother's GD-55's (Tier 1 only) are nice and work good for hiking and road trips etc. In my opinion the GD-77 isn't waterproof, I'd at least get the at least ip54 (rainproof, pretty dust proof, and likely drop sturdy from waist high), it's appalling that any $65+ radio isn't at least ip54 and anything $120+ isn't ip67 If you can wait and save up, hold out for the Aluince HD1 from Retevis, it's Dual Band, ip67, and looks like 1won low with 4/8w uhf and 5/10w vhf
Hey, Jason. I feel a little odd for asking this, but, do you use the Mail app on your Surface or you use other methods? I've been having issues with the Mail app adding other email accounts such as Yahoo! and Gmail.
Hi. I am a ham, NO3NO and I think I would like the radio for several reasons: 1- I really want to get into dmr and I just am looking into dmr and I would like to see if it is forme or if it is too difficult. I am 63 and I'm not proficient yet in Linux. Maybe is my age, maybe it's my PD. 2- DMR looks like something I could really get into. 3- I rarely if ever win anything. 4- I do not have any dmr radios. Thank you.
Eh, I'm always unlucky to win something, but, I give it a try. Dang dual band DMRs cost too much, it makes it difficult for newcomers like me to get involved. I still think the Anytone 868 is nice, though. Did you ever get a response from Anytone about the S model, by the way?
Yeah, the TYT isn't much better, because that's phonetic for "tit" or "boob", but hey ... it's better than assfish. Those chinese folks have some kind of theme going here ...
Well TYT is short for "Tytera" which is the actual name of the company. Hytera asked them to change it from Tytyera, at least the name-stamp on the radio, so they changed it to TYT. And its always in all caps, so it actually looks like an acronym, but I don't think it is.
Yeah i kind of wondered about that, since you see the name tytera in some of the documentation and the software. Anyway, i did get a chance to play with an MD-2017 yesterday. Pretty solid little radio for the money. I ordered one thanks to your video.
im Donny KK4RJY - love the vids...im new to dmr just got my ID and trying to figure out what radio to get. hope you may choose me for a giveaway. thanks 73
good day just want to say thanks for the great show ... i would like a digital/analog radio because i do not have the funds now to buy one and the retevis radio are not a bad radio well that is my thoughts i got a zumspot from a friend but do not have a digital radio and that is why i would like that radio my call sign is ZS6CSV from south africa thanks
I appreciate the work that goes into your videos, but may I suggest getting to the review (titled in the video) sooner than 19 minutes in. Don't mean to be a Debbie downer - keep up the good work.
