What's in the new BuddiHEX antenna kit by Buddipole? Spend some time with myself and N4DJR as we show you what is in Buddihex kit, how to assemble it, and some options you can choose when purchasing your kit. If you are looking for a portable antenna, the Buddihex antenna by Buddipole should be on your list.
**PRO TIP** when you are installing the elements, if you rotate the colored clip "down" and install the wires, this will allow the elements to be under the spreader arm instead of on top and will make the element more "snug" and will take away most any "drooping" that might occur. this will also make sure the elements do not interact with each other and cause any SWR changes. Installing the wires with the clip facing down is recommended by Buddipole.

@@synonyx thank you for the nice comment. I’ve noticed others have made comments grouping this channel with some of the other influencers giving reviews on items they actually don’t use or didn’t purchase but was given them for free for a review.. this channel hasn’t made a video about any product at all that was not purchased and in my kit.

It's that easy and that good. I was one of the beta testers for the proof of concept model. This add's a whole new dimension to the art of portable ham radio operation. I had the pre-production model up 24/7 in the Florida sun, rain and wind for over a year with no damage from UV or moisture. The Mastwerks mast and tripod is the perfect companion for the BuddiHEX. Thanks for a great video guy's.

Thanks for your comments. You are right, it is a great antenna. Chris and the Buddipole team and of coarse YOU guys who tested it did a great job. Theres no doubt it will work put up perm. at a qth, I wanted to see how easy it was to deploy and maneuver in the field at different locations. At first I was skeptical, I thought it would be cumbersome, and it might be if you were planning on activating or working portable for a few hours, but if you are camping, etc. its a perfect antenna. It is a wonderful addition to our club and it will improve our field day activities a good bit.
@boblewis8783
@boblewis8783 3 года назад
You might ask Chris to send you the assembly post that makes bending over not necessary. Once assembled just remove the post and mount the antenna. Also, place a small pennant or ribbon on the open (director) end so you know which direction it points to.

Nice video!! This is definitely a field portable antenna. If you lived in an apartment/condo/townhome, and had a little bit of common space outside, it would be too large to set up. If you had a house in an HOA area, it would be a really nice backyard antenna to use when operating and take down when not in use. One observation with this or the original Buddipole, if you are taking it to a park or something, you definitely want to make sure you are there for quite some time and band conditions are good, as both types of antenna do take some extra time to set up over using something like a linked dipole. I definitely see this targeted to the POTA and HOA restricted crowd, or the regular homeowner with a small .25 acre suburban lot. I know Budd and Chris have allowed many restricted hams an opportunity to put up one of the best compromise antennas you can get and be able to enjoy the hobby despite HOA or lot size issues. :-)

not everytime you setup the beam would you need to work all of the bands, even quicker setup if you only put the elements you know you may use. Such as this weekend, we knew we were only going to work 20m so we only put on the 20m element.. took us 18 minutes to setup tripod and beam and be ready to get on the air.

@@DewayneW4FDT Another thing I was wondering was possible (and if so, practical)... Leave all the wires in place. Pop the poles out of the center hub (yes, they'll all cross the middle as they straighten). Disconnect only the tension line between the directors. Collapse like a Japanese fan, i.e. swing them all around so they point away from where the directed lobe was. Could you then just take the entire slack bundle and lay it on the ground next to the house, for instance? If that worked, and if it wasn't too hard to re-insert the poles into the hub with all the wires in place, perhaps that would be a (slightly) quicker way to use at home for a weekend, and take it back down for the week?
@DewayneW4FDT
@DewayneW4FDT 3 года назад
You might could do that, honestly this thing goes together so quick and by attaching the wires from the bottom when it’s on the tripod you save yourself a lot of time. Experimenting is what this hobby is all about.

Thanks for watching. I know when people get it in their hands they will put it together however THEY seem comfortable and thats what we were doing also, however theres an easier way and it could be beneficial to the SWR of the lower elements when theres "drooping" so obviously putting it together how Buddipole recommends is the best way and its even faster.

I host a RU-vid channel that helps to encourage people to come in to amateur radio and license up as well as talk about products I can help them in our hobby. I’d like to use this video on an upcoming show. I promise that I will put a link to your RU-vid channel in the description section and I’ll ask people to subscribe as well. Great work here guys. I wonder how many birds get irradiated on that? Just the same it looks like it will work OK but it's way too much for a portable rig. It would get wrecked in the wind storms we get in NC. I'm lazy an EFHW tossed over a tree and I'll call it good. Or I can sit in my car and use my Tarheel antenna.
@denp54z
@denp54z 2 года назад
None, not enough RF power in a legal ham set up to hurt birds or even insects. I wish my KIO would have killed mosquitos but for some reason they were attracted to my antenna, even when it was not in use ??

Should the color coded clips be on the top or underside of the poles?
@DewayneW4FDT
@DewayneW4FDT 2 года назад
You can put them either way, it doesn’t change performance at all. However, if you are walking under of clipping the wires, it would make it a little faster if the wire clips were facing the bottom.
