Hi Jim, Congrats on the QSO with the DXE station and IC-7610. Your signal sounds great on their video. Still hoping to hit one of the lottery jackpots and update my shack. :-) 73 WB3BJU

I hate to leave this comment, I really do, but good practice would be leaving a little bit of time in between transmissions because nobody can get a break in between in case of emergency, There is no time between transmissions and you are very fast on the key.

Okay, thanks. I would like to know your name and callsign please. My callsign is W6LG, licensed in 1963 and continuously active for over 53 years. And, I handled emergency traffic several times where life and/or property were being threatened by wildfire, car accidents, a guy lost in the snow that I found, a lady who fell on an offramp, a house on fire that was on my route as a County Official and a few others. Thank you for your advice. Regards, Jim Heath W6LG

Name is Eric Hofer, KJ4YZI. Licensed since 2004... I know how long you have been licensed, Not trying to coach someone who has been doing it longer than I have, believe me.. I'm just not sure why it has to be that fast without a pause in between to allow any stations a chance to be acknowledged. Thank you for your help in emergency traffic over the years. 73

Hi Eric! Nice to meet you. Congratulations on your upgrade to General Class License. I encourage to now go all the way to the Extra Class License. Thank you for your question. I do a very fast push-to-talk. So as you listen to me speak, any pause may be where the transceiver is in the receive position. I do a manual imitation of VOX. If someone speaks during the turnover, I am probably going to hear it. I believe that there are pauses or spaces where someone could in an emergency say something that would have been heard by me or Tim. I do edit videos to remove wasted video time. If you watch my most recent QSO videos and watch my hand, you will see that happen. Thank you for watching the video so closely and asking the question. 73, Jim W6LG

Thanks Jim. Well, I like to keep it interesting. My saying is "The Christmas presents are much better when they are wrapped under the tree" meaning, I have plenty of time to upgrade to extra class. No rush here. The same goes with equipment and modes. If I blew my wad on the best gear, upgraded to extra class, had beams, towers and worked all countries, then what? Like a rockstar once said "Well, this is it. We are on the top of the billboards, we went platinum, now what?" Every day is a new device, a new contact, a new experience. And by the time I experience all the stuff that is available to us now, there will be a bunch of new things. So when I think I have made all the contacts that I ever will, I will be able to upgrade to extra and start all over. But thanks for the encouragement, and I figured your manual VOX practice was to eliminate the background noise and breath sounds as you weren't talking, it looks like a D104 with the SSB head on it, which are very sensitive. 73 JIM, de KJ4YZI

Thanks Eric. That mic has no connection (poor choice of words) to a D104. It is an Astatic 10da which has an 'art deco' look. I think Astatic must have used an old mold to create the 10da in the 1960's. It was advertised at the time as having a tailored response. It was an SSB mic. They called it the "VOICE". I remember the battles that took place as the new mode slowly took over 20 meters. The AM guys ended up around 14275. I do not use the "manual vox" because of the noise from the amp or other stuff. Actually, I failed to tell you that in my K3's I have turned on a system that mutes the mic when there is no voice input from me. So if I say "hello hello," the mic is off between those two words. The transmitter stays keyed. It is sort of like a VOX system for just the audio. I do not like the D104 which is fairly high output. That is a crystal microphone. The 10da is a dynamic mic and the output is much lower. I think the response of the 10da is like the HC5. I used a small transformer to match impedances. I upgraded from General many years ago and I don't regret it. I think I got the Advanced Class license in the early 1970's. There are many things to try. There is always something new to get my interest. Now 14 months into my recovery from the PE and MI, I still get up in the morning and check propagation numbers, listen to 20 meters for an opening at sunrise and spend part of the day experimenting with ham radio related "stuff". SDR, FT8 and amplifier building are currently things that I do. Although the amp building is somewhat limited since I can't lift much. I will know more about what I can do next week. More tests were done this week. I am waiting for the results. Also, when you upgrade to Extra SOON you will be more likely to mentor. And that is needed. There is no one to help a lot of the new guys. Much of what I see on RU-vid for helping new hams is bad information. That's being polite. I should have said it is crap. Go for the Extra Eric. There is plenty to do when you get there. I used to testify in court as an expert. To prove I knew what I was talking about, I got every license and certification that was available. 73, Jim

I made my first visit to the DXE showroom last month. I’ve lived within 45 min of their site all my life, just recently rejoined the Amateur Radio community & the DXE team are great to meet in person & work with ! Thanks for sharing the videos, gents ! Happy Holidays...!

800x600 for the display and 800x600 for the external monitor output is kinda laughable for the year 2017. Hardly wait for the 6600m

DX Engineering is a really cool place to be, I think I've been there more than I've been to the grocery store as of late :) Tiny showroom, but they have a HUGE warehouse as they are attached to Summit Racing.

Hi Jim! Sorry, propagation keeps us apart on my mornings (your evenings). This is great that I can watch your videos from time to time and know that all is well with you. 7610 must be one great radio but I will wait till the next generation. Price should also drop down somewhat in a short while. In the mean time I will continue to enjoy my K3 and KX3.

Hello Igor! Thanks and yes the sun is in the wrong part of the sky. There has been some opening to HM, JA and BY but they don't extend up to UA9. So, let's a QSO on the other band soon. I'd love to get caught up on what is happening there in beautiful EkatyCity. The contact with Tim Duffy, K3LR was lots of fun. We talked a lot longer than is shown. I can see why he is so popular. Let's talk soon. 73, Jim GF from Volga River area

I could tell towards the end of the video you were trying very hard to hold back tears. Well, me too. You would be a nice guy to know and an interesting guy to talk to. Please keep the videos coming. We need guys like you out there and along with the companies that produce these amazing radios, I am grateful for people like you. Thank you.

Another good and interesting video Jim and thank you. I use a lot of SDR technology (SDR Play for example) and a Flex 3000. I totally agree with your thoughts on this. We are indeed lucky and have a look at my QRZ profile to see how it all fits in whenever you have time Sir. 73 from mi6gnp

Nice video. Trying to decide if the 7610 should replace the TS-2000 I've had running for around 15 or so years. Getting tired of the loud fan ... after all these years. Seriously, I need a much better receiver than this do-it-all, but not very well K-wood has supplied. Oh, the end of the video was a surprise. Congrats.

Real cool Jim, to talk to DX Engineering. To be the first contact to anyone, has been my privilege, 3-4 times in the almost 5 years (?) of being an amateur operator. Looking forward to seeing your next video. Thanks KC3BXZ Joe

Well, let us guess...what control on the front of your receiver (we will presume HF as there is not much unused on FM radios) are you likely never using? Well, if you don't do CW then it might be the speed knob for the iambic keyer, but you probably weren't considering that one, so we'll go for the RX gain control. Of course many never adjust TX power either (must...have...100W...for..weak signal modes!). Whereas I seldom bother using the squelch knob. So we have a few contenders. I really enjoyed your story and those are the experiences that really stick with you so thanks for sharing! 73 de KW4EK

I have only had my ICOM 7600 at full output once.It stays at 35 watts PEP because that is why it takes for my ICOM PW-1 too make full output power plus on all of the bands.I hate repeating myself so when I push the FS-2 foot switch I expect too be heard the 1st time & I Rarely make any adjustments on the 7600.I know people can't leave most radios along because they feel they always need adjusting but I feel it's much better leaving mine where it sounds AWESOME. Why mess with what is not broken? {:>)
