Have the same "aliexpress' microphone and it was swamped by rf after first sound. added 0.0022 cap across ground and signal, brushed the metal case inside to make contact and connected the third wire to the screw holding the gold cap. Makes is perfect for what it is.

George, have you rotated the BM-800 element by 90 degrees? The BM-800 normally has a sideways mounted element. The way you have the mic mounted wont be very effective unless you have already hacked the element position.

Yup, she's modified to end address. I don't use it anymore though, it's been superseded by a shure SM7B.

Thanks George, just got hold of a Broadcaster microphone by Rode and a Xenyx 802 , going to try and set this combo up with an FT990. Wish me luck. Regards from Carl,G0lka.

boxingday11 good stuff Carl. You'll definitely need a pop filter on that mic. They are quite a good mic but prone to plosives. If you need anything let me know.

The manual for the 802 mixer says the output is unbalanced. You say its balanced. But great video, thanks!

Hi George, I have just set up a cheap BM-800 mic thru my Behriger 802, a DI box and wired into the ACC plug on my Icom 7300. I am getting distortion on transmit on SSB, but it is fine on FM. I have tried adjusting the acc mod level on my radio and that makes no difference. Could you give me any advice as to why it is not working on SSB please.

Thanks. Just check with you is it correct for my set up from Mic to StudioV3 tube mp then to Behringer 1002FH to Ultra DI box and finally to my HF radio Icom 7300. Please advise. Thanks Mr George . 73 9W8CH

George, what do yo recommend seting the gain on the 7300 to for going into the front of the radio and in through the rear acc? thanks
@GeorgeEI7KO
@GeorgeEI7KO 3 года назад
Just have the ALC peaking in the specified range.
@yoerim360
@yoerim360 3 года назад
what about the phantom voltage coming from the ic7300? is the extra part drawn under the g100 needed or can that second connection stay open?
@GeorgeEI7KO
@GeorgeEI7KO 3 года назад
The part drawn underneath is just a reference e to the intended use of a di box, and I did cover powering the mic from the radio. Maybe watch the entire video instead of skipping through it?
@yoerim360
@yoerim360 3 года назад
@@GeorgeEI7KO did see the video in total. what i wanted to know is is there still need for a capacitor as in the heil cable when connecting over the di box from the rear of the 7300
@GeorgeEI7KO
@GeorgeEI7KO 3 года назад
@@yoerim360 of that I'm not sure, you be as well to meter the connections on the mod input and ground of the acc port to see if its there it not. I'd imagine it's not as my mic now is a dynamic shure SM7B instead of the condenser...

Good information. But....bottom line in this HAM radio 'audio sound' thing is what Bob Heil has also declared. It comes down to 'what sounds good to you'. Podcasters comparing mics say this. My epxerience attests to this as well. Even so: we love to mess with mics and "How do I sound', only to get reports all over the spectrum. Why so?? As above: Each one HEARS DIFFERENTLY! I personally never solicit audio reports but will gratefully acknowledge them...good or bad. I've learned my very nicely managed audio into my rig's front end is IMMEDIATELY HOSED (rolled off?) and requires doing the internal AUDIO TONE (NOT EQ by the way) to get a decent sound. DO FLEXRADIO or ANAN if you really want amazing audio. Ahnyoo...info in this video is spot on and worth considering. I use a PYLE HUM ELIMINATOR to ISOLATE my processed audio line out. In my case, directly driving the balanced modulator input STILL resulted in a roll-off of the audio. What a surprise!! I now run a 6600M if I want to do amazing audio (which is relatively well respected but...really guys: WHO CARES??) Dave in Grass Valley, CA. WA6PBJ

Hi Dave, Its all very subjective really. People listening with differing bandwidth on their receivers, or using the RX EQ etc. I wouldn't have a whole lot of time for Bob Heil to be honest. His products are over priced and over rated. Id say the same of the W2IHY stuff, his 'ibox' for example is just a direct injection box with a variable output (pad) my Behringer DI box cost me about 40 dollars brand new. Still working perfect. I set myself the challenge of sounding as good as possible on 3kHz bandwidth as 85% of people listen at that setting. Thanks for the comment and many regards from downtown Athlone in central Ireland. 73

@@GeorgeEI7KO your a legend mate just set up my audio nearly same as yours, i used a Behringer Xenyx 1002FX, same Di box and have the phantom power turned on powering a Rode procaster broadcast dynamic mike and a fethead to protect the mic from the volts and give it some gain. Also went the rear acc plug ....now to find a cap to cover the front mike outlet since its not being used. Audio sounds so good

I have an issue with my yaesu 757 gx2 on usb audio sounds normal but on lsb I'm told I sound nasal and cutoff around 2000hz , is there a way to calibrate my radio or do I just buy a new transceiver. 73s de ve1qfa

@GeorgeEI7KO 4 года назад
Short answer, new rig. The money you'd spend getting that sorted out, a few bucks along with it would bag you a used 7300.

Hello George, I'm going down the studio mic road, is there an easier way of doing things? 73's from Belgium.
@GeorgeEI7KO
@GeorgeEI7KO 5 лет назад
Hi JD, hope you are keeping well. You could just go down the route of using the likes of a cheap condenser and powering it from the mic socket on the front of the radio. It does work well to a certain degree. Personally, I'd sooner have the mic running at its full operating voltage. It depends on what you want to achieve I guess.
