You asked for it, so here it is! This is the wiring job that looks more like a messy hit job. I will "dress" my wiring soon, but for now, here's the truth about go box wiring.

I have only one thing you may want to add. Fuses! You can buy a fuse box from amazon. Fuse everything in case in case something may go wrong. A Fuse is cheaper to replace then the radio or most anything else in your box. Thanks for showing what you have done. Looks Great. 73s

Excellent advice. I thought long and hard about that before my build, but it's not too late. I still have plenty of space to install one, and it'd make a great video.

He is going to need a fuse panel and a grounded bus bar. But that would clean up allot of that mess.

Hello, After the earthquake we experienced in our country, we realized how important it is to communicate. Your portable work has inspired us, we will use it as a diagram if you allow. Greetings from Turkey, the cradle of civilizations.

Thanks for sharing the internal workings of the Go Box. I always like seeing how others set up their boxes, I am always looking for new ideas. As for rat nest of wires, hey that doesn't look bad at all to me, you have things labeled so you know where they go. I have seen worse! LOL Again, I appreciate you sharing this, it is always good to show how it was constructed or video of it being constructed so the rest of us have ideas of how to do things. Appreciate it again!! Back at ya brother! I just now got around to watching your 50 cal box vids. I'm already planning my next project in my head after seeing what you built. Very clean, nice storage...I think I may need to make one. 73 Juddie! de K5HRV

K5HRV thanks for watching my video on the ammo “Camp Radio”. I want to do another one with a uBitx and another dual band in the one box along with a battery. Still tossing ideas around. I really want to be able to incorporate my Raspberry Pi3+ into a build, so that I can do packet and also have the capability to do digital modes as well. I need to watch more videos into incorporating the Pi into Go Boxes. Again thanks for taking the time to watch the video on my channel. Juddie WD8WV

What mess of wires? That looks neat and orderly compared to my setups...

Tried to use that same QYT quad band. Had issues immediately. No way would I trust that radio in an emergency. Ended up installing an Icom 2730a. Also, like the Pi intergraded into the box. I might go to the next box size up from what I have and install mi Pi, buck converter, and Shari that makes up my AllStar Node. Like those Wago connectors you are using. Those are a bit pricey, but are easily reusable and adjustable. I typically install Blue Sea fuse boxes in my go boxes. Good quality, each accessory is individually fused, and makes for a nice clean and simple setup.

Yeah. The QYT is, um, adequate. Don't be surprised if you see a future video where I talk about swapping it out with a more reliable radio, not to mention a Pi4. I'm currently working on a new project building a power box. Of course, I will be installing a fuse box in it, and very likely ordering another one to retrofit into this go box.

Use thinner gauge wire; use right-angle/flag connectors; use acorn nuts on cover plate support bolts

Nice video and setup. Could you please tell me in which direction your fan is mounted? Sucking air or blowing?

@ J&J- that’s for requesting and @K5HTV thanks for making this video. I’m in the middle of almost the same build right now and lots of good ideas here. Question- how long of a usable runtime are you getting out of the 12AH batt? I have been looking at a 21AH but your the second guy I’ve seen only running a 12. (I will be adding 12v & 120v external power ports to mine, but still want to get decent batt time if needed). Thanks!

To be frank, I haven’t run it until the radio shut off yet. That said, based on the rate at which the voltage dropped during the times I have used it, I’m thinking I can get a good 18hrs of monitoring (no transmitting). With moderate transmitting at 25w, I figure I can get 4-6 hours. Now, don’t take those numbers too seriously because, again, I haven’t tried yet. Hmmm...guess I should, eh? Might make a good 2-minute video.

looks pretty good, thanks for the video. Working on one myself and been thinking about posting a video as well. One question i have and am struggling with it myself is how did you mount the screen? I don't want to put holes in the case and wondering how you did it. Keep up the work! 73

Thanks Andrew! Well, I came up with an imperfect solution for the screen. I cut away a square of the padding to expose the hard plastic of the inside of the lid and used industrial Velcro I picked up at Home Depot. It works great unless it gets warm. I was operating one day in 90°F heat and after about half an hour the adhesive holding the Velcro to the lid just gave up. If/when I find a better solution (that's doesn't involve drilling holes) I'll definitely make a video. Thanks!

@@k5hrv605 Thanks for the reply. I thought about using velcro also. Thought about using a VESA mount and using EPOXY to glue it to the lid. Wasn't sure if that would work. I was worried also about the velcro adhesive not sticking to the lid. I wanted to put in a mini PC running SDRPlay with an RSP1A. Plus I could run Chirp to program the radios. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.

What is the model number of the fan and where did you get it from? I'm assuming you got the fan controller from the same place? Gerald KG0VA

Thanks for the quick reply Harvey. I have one more question since I do have one of these fan controllers ordered. Nowhere have I been able to find what size the board is. It appears to be around 2" x 3". What is it exactly? For the build, I'm working on, I don't much more room that. Gerald KG0VA
