Section C09, listen carefully to your answer. At first, you said 338 watts, then corrected to 138

C08 it's not "they want you to be specific", it's "this is the correct answer". Capital M mega and lowercase m milli are two different prefixes differing in magnitude by a factor of a billion.

Such a helpful video. I found a good way for me to remember the difference between hertz, kilohertz, megahertz, gigahertz was to compare them to common storage values such as bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, and gigabytes. I would use that comparison and it helped me decide which way to move the decimal point.

Thank you for providing this information. Many of the words used in study mode are words I have never heard of before, and it is causing me to fail often. HamStudy may need checking. I swear I have answered the same question multiple times, and when I give the correct answer again, it says 'Incorrect'. I will keep studying, but I think the answers algorithm may be a bit mental.

(6:15) I was wondering, for dB, is this taking the log base 10 of the wattage essentially? That seems to be how the math is lining up.

During test are you allowed to use a conversion calculator or cheat sheet to figure out decimal point on conversions?

Josh, I really like your channel! Hey, watched your EMP can video and have a question for you. Put a Baofeng in it and call CQ or something to test if it really is an effective Faraday cage. I bet a Baofeng in a can receives just fine. Been messing around with ammo cans, trash cans etc and still haven't found a solution I am sure will work. Thanks in advance. 73

B02, if you were just listening to Josh and not looking at the video, he says "one million hertz" ... he meant "one million five hundred thousand hertz" or "one and a half million hertz"

If you invison in your minds eye your electronics instructor with an giant ear on one side of his head and a giant pie on the other side you will always remember for the rest of time watts and ohms laws. That is mnemonics.

Another error on question b02, you say 1,000,000Hz instead of 1,500,000 Hz. And b10 is negative 6 db. I've been straight up memorizing these from repetitive listening, and then failing the tests in this section, and a few others. 😕 Another D11 it's not 12ohm is 10ohm.

Are you talking about the floating "Tips"? Those are the conversion rates. The answers is still what I stated and was in the lower left.

Am I the only one annoyed they are forcing us to learn things some of us will never need or use? I’m not going to build my own radio and just want to use this for basic communication. If I ever did, then I could learn these things. It’s obnoxious the FCC thinks they need to make a test for basic amateur radio usage.
@HamRadioCrashCourse
@HamRadioCrashCourse Месяц назад
Go ahead and use GMRS.
@John-ke2jm
@John-ke2jm Месяц назад
@@HamRadioCrashCourse That's not the solution. I get having the knowledge on how radio waves work and how I could do things that could cause problems with others. I get knowing what the FCC does and how I could break their rules. But I don't need to know how to read schematics to buy and use an amateur radio. I don't ever plan to build a radio, and if I did, I could learn that stuff then. It's gatekeeping plain and simple.

Dont just blindly accept a licensing requirement without first questioning if its necessary, legal, and a violation of your rights. HAM community seems to gleefully promote such blind obedience. If you dont ever stand up for anything, they will just keep doing this.
@HamRadioCrashCourse
@HamRadioCrashCourse Год назад
Have you asked yourself this question? The answer is simple. The radio frequency space is a finite resource. Look into the history. Before the FCC or groups like it people transmitted all over each other and some actively jammed others to promote their own programming others performed takeovers of popular frequencies. The FCC core function is to identify and allocate effective and civil use of the finite frequencies so we prevent interference. Don't bother replying to me if in your reply you don't include how you would prevent others from interfering with effective communication.
@palehorse7377
@palehorse7377 Год назад
@@HamRadioCrashCourse why are you talking about ham frequencies? that has nothing to do with ham licensing.
@winger55552001
@winger55552001 Год назад
The licensing requirements are effective to keep you from harming yourself and others. If you have trouble with the minimal ham licensing requirements then you should try something safe like CB or FRS that has minimal power. I suspect that you just want to put some ham equipment in a bag for when the SHTF. Good luck not understanding the contents of the ham radio licensing requirements and using your equipment wisely.
@sandhill9313
@sandhill9313 Год назад
@@palehorse7377 Of course it does. One hope is that a licensee will understand frequency allotments and usage and be supportive of proper use of our frequencies. Another is that the threat of license revocation and fines will encourage folks to play by the rules.
