Thanks for sharing! I'm learning how to service my own equipment. Recently tried to do an alignment On my National NC 183D and failed with a Heathkit RF generator. I missed something. Its half the fun with these boat anchors. Nice looking Valiant btw! I have a few of them along with a half dozen more Johnson Transmitters to play with. 73
Hi Tom. TNX for the comment. What I do on aligning an AM superhet receiver is I use a scope set to DC connected to the AVC line. Inject a carrier at the antenna port or tune to an AM BC signal and dip each can. Some cans have 2 slugs (top and bottom). The 183D is a great receiver. Also, yes I did up an older video on the Valiant. Cheers and 73.
@@pf_n1ps Thanks for the info! I'm not sure where the AVC line is yet. The manual says to use C-2c main tuning capacitor would that work as well for the scope?
@@Tom-W7TMD The AVC comes off the detector with a 1-2Meg resistor to control the IF/RF stage gain. It goes more negative with signal strength, thus reducing the gain of the stages. You can also use a VTVM.
