You guys are brave, wandering around in Hamburg / Northern Europe in winter. And that Northern European thingy about finding food: most places will close between end of lunch and start of dinnertime. Certainly in winter, out of tourist season. Hamburg and Bremen, my favorite Northern German cities. Enjoy!

So nice that the tunnel was so clean and bright - no graffiti there! 30 yrs ago when I lived in Germany, Aldi was a revelation. It was a bit different back then, but still as marvellous. When I moved back to Australia 16 years ago I discovered the new version of Aldi, with all the furniture, seasonal clothes and electronics. It gets pretty busy when the new stuff arrives. Over the years, its busy-ness has put me off shopping there. Like Tia, I prefer nature and the quiet spaces.

Hamburg has about as many bridges as Venice (around 400), Amsterdam (prox. 1200) and Berlin (most counts are about 900 to 1000 bridges) combined. Since Berlin prides themselves that they have more bridges than Venice, well Venice is at least 10 times smaller than Berlin. So it's not a real accomplishment at all. Approximately Hamburg has around 2500 bridges. Much more than Berlin. The most bridges in the world propably would go to ChongQuing in China with approximately 10k bridges.

Australia was probably the most expensive country we've visited, and it only really worked for us because our videos did pretty well there. Lots of places are expensive but in Oz the effect is compounded by the fact that everything is so far apart! We spent well over $100 USD on just petrol sometimes. Still completely worth visiting, though. And (hopefully) settling down in one day!
@ReneM246
@ReneM246 8 месяцев назад
Yep as a fellow Aussie, I'm shocked at how expensive Australia is compared to the rest of the world. There's no way a $150 a day budget would work. And I'm shocked at our grocery prices compared to other food hauls you see people do on RU-vid 😢 it makes me wonder why
@hayleyrichardson9203
@hayleyrichardson9203 5 месяцев назад
@@ReneM246 Australia has the highest minimum wage in the world so that's at least part of it but the knock on effect is big companies don't want to manufacture stuff here because labour is too expensive but then the end consumer ends up paying more due to taxes on imports etc

Hotels are much more affordable right now. Portugal in the summer of 2022, we couldn’t find a shared-bathroom hostel room for less than $100/night. Now we’re getting full en-suite hotel rooms in Germany and Denmark for $50-80/night. For us, that alone makes it completely worth it.
