The cast of the hit Broadway musical "Hamilton" performed the song "My Shot" at the White House Monday for an audience that included President and Mrs. Obama, Vice President Biden and local students.
Y’all gotta remember: Lin wrote a lot of this. He has to know how to direct it in a way. His hands wiggle because he’s conducting himself and/or those around him, out of instinct as a little music man

I like how when performed Alexander Hamilton they were trying to be professional at it then later on they give no fucks and started dancing and flailing their arms
miss nonhuman so? Yo you people who are focusing on the minor things when the big picture is learning about history! So if I go to the White House you want me to wear a dress? Sexist! I can wear pants, skirts, pantsuits WHATEVER!!!!!!
Victoria William Gaming ... Whoa, calm down, they're not trying to insinuate anything, it's just something funny that they noticed bc usually people wear pantsuits to formal occasions like this.
Miranda wrote Laurens, Lafayette and Mulligan in the style of older 80s/90s rap, while Hamilton spits modern hip hop verses to show how much more intellectually advanced Hamilton was, which is just insane genius writing.
That is clever, but they were pretty forward thinkers too. Laurens was an abolitionist in a time period in which slaves and treating black people as below whites was a regular thing, and Lafayette was a brilliant tactician, using methods to confuse British forces, hold lines longer than many would expect, and even pushed General Howes forces across the river, losing only one man in the process. I know almost nothing about Mulligan, besides drinking Brits under the table, which in and of itself, is pretty clever.
Thank you for pointing that out. For me, as an old white lady, the difference was more felt than understood, if that makes sense. I've always appreciated the urban poetry of rap and hip-hop, but _Hamilton_ was like an immersion experience in the musicality of it. I play Medieval and Renaissance music, which have incredibly intricate rhythms. I was interested to see how a contemporary musical form incorporates similar tempo changes and syncopation. But it's impossible to stay in my head when I watch _Hamilton_ on Disney+. The whole show evokes too visceral a response for it to be experienced only intellectually. It just carried me right away, as the ideal theatrical experience should.

@@Azeri._. Mulligan's (Oak) line here is "Up in it, loving' it, yes I heard your mother said ' Come again!' Lock up your daughters and horses, it's hard to have intercourse over four sets of corsets" and Laurens (Anthony) responds "Ay no more sex pour me another brew son" so yeah 😂
Three reasons why Lin-Manuel Miranda is the best. 1. Creating Hamilton 2. Wearing jeans at the White House 3. Having arm seizures while shouting "I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT!!"
imagine being oak in the middle of the most important and powerful people in the country and then looking the leader of our country in the eyes and saying "lock up your daughters and horses of course it's hard to have intercourse over four sets of corsets"
I've always waited for Daveed's "-ANARCHY" during the performances of My Shot. There's just something about how he enunciates it so satisfyingly every single time.
We talking lins hands but anthonys over here swinging his arms like they're frisbees when hes singing and daveed is kind of just swaying and dancing as he pleases
Daveed - an awkwardly tall & excited 5 year old kid Anthony - short 'lil little ball of energy & cuteness Oak - too cool to hold on to the mic Leslie - lol why is he here Lin - having arm spasms
Literally it feels so wrong. I am avoiding looking at him, because I just can't accept that he plays both Jefferson and Lafayette, they don't look similar at all. Edit: I know they are both played by Daveed, but just my head won't accept it.
Yeah, he has so much nervous energy. It's fun to watch. I really wish I could have gotten the chance to see the original cast perform this on Broadway.
Lin: rapping like a god Also Lin: waving his hands around because there is a pesky fly that won’t leave him alone but he’s trying to play it off as a cool and hip dance move :3
Lin-Manuel Miranda's hand movements during a performance are a special form of art. They are so chaotic and nervous, but at the same time so graceful and perfectly in tune with the rhythm that I could not take my eyes off him throughout the whole performance, he got all my attention, although the other guys are amazing too😍.
It’s not that he can’t say it “right.” He tries to make the adjustment to an American accent. The joke of course is that in the late 1700s there’s no real American accent yet. Those who were born speaking English still had British accents. The joke is largely lost on American audiences who don’t realize that their pronunciation of “anarchy” sounds like “EN-archy” to most of the world.
@@Fluvienne There was an American accent by the late 1700s though. It definitely wasn't the same accent that we have today, but it definitely differed from a British accent.
Lin's so excited but at the same time he looks at whoever's performing like "wait wait wait okay good no mess ups so far" lol he's so full of passion i love this little linnamon roll
Yess!! And... his cute little dance towards Leslie at 4:59 was absolutely precious. Not sure if that was a Lin!dance or a Ham!dance, but either way... he's so enthusiastic, and I fucking love it
When Lin says "Laurens I like you a lot !" and Anthony answers "Heyyy...", not only it is super cute but I also just realised that it is a reference to the actual play because everytime a character is flirting in it they start singing "hey" (for example in winter ball and say no to this)
You can see the respect and love all over Daveeds face. He does this all throughout his performance in the stage show as well. As a rap artist himself, you can see his admiration for the lyrics play out in real time and it's just beautiful.
When Daveed starts waving his arms around and hyping up Lin when he was rapping then remembered he was in the White House and looked over at Anthony🤣🤣 1:50
I love it how at first Lin and Leslie are watching the guys like they are sassy and inappropriate teenagers, specially when Oak says the “I heard your mom say “COME AGAIN!” “, Lin is like “oh no no hehe, no, I did not teach them that” AND THEN, they are watching Lin (being Lin) like he is the cool uncle showing off and doing a bunch of inappropriate things in front of the conservative moms and grandparents. I just love it.
Was late to the party. Saw Hamilton on Disney plus for the first time this year, have never even heard the soundtrack before or see anything else Lin wrote or was in. Now I’m obsessed and wish I could’ve seen this cast tour. Ugh I love them all so much it’s crazy.
The reason Leslie isn't wildin out like the others is because he is in character. The other four are jamming out together and he is stiff on purpose... Just pointing that out. Burr has no fun.
When your realize that King's College (Columbia) is where Obama attended, he walked the same NYC streets as Hamilton, Obama's dad also abandoned him and his mom to go back to his home country, Obama's mom also died of sickness, yet he didn't throw away his shot!
+ObsidianWolf trump's term is not even half over, so we'll see, what if he isn't after all? UPD: yeah it is true, this comment hasn't aged well... neither have I but oh well
Everyone chatting about lin manuals hand movements I think it’s amazing after this many performances he has that much emotion in the songs and how he sings!!!! The world does not deserve such a beautiful soul!!! Hands Up 🖐 for Lin Manuel
Lin is so adorable! In the beginning he's looking at the others like "I'm so proud of my children" and then all those nervous hand movements while he's singing?! He's soooo cute 😍
How can he NOT move his arms nearly continuously with the excitement he must feel with seeing his 6? years of creation so well loved, and the genius performance at the White House.
