Nothing makes my head hurt more, and my language learning grow by laps and bounds, than translating in my brain real time. Let's call it brain growth :) feels better that way.
Just saw Hamilton in Hamburg last night and Charles Simmons was amazing! He was one of my favourite performers! Such strong appearance on stage and great voice!
as a german who knows the english lyrics by heart its so hard to focus on the german version since my head is constantly trying to sing along. but i am really proud of the translation, the whole team did so good

I don't speak German, but am bilingual in English and another European-based language. I find song lyric translation to be just about the most difficult type of translation work possible. Matching every idea and translatable wordplay, while maintaining the rhythm, intonation, and actual number of syllables in each language is so complex. All the respect to those who would go about translating for any musical production, let alone one with so many types of music as Hamilton.
I speak German and while I think (from what little I've heard here) they seem to have done a good job, I did find two lines that I'm not too happy with. "Just you wait" was translated rather matter of factly ("wait") rather than as a promise of things to come ("just wait and see what I will be doing"). And Burrs "I'm the damn fool that shot him" was translated to "I just shot him", loosing a lot in the process. But as you said: Translating with all the subtext is really hard, and I'm looking forward to see the musical in German.

I‘m not sure he will do the french accent. In the Video and also at the press Event he didn’t sing with french accent. I hope it was just because he was not practiced it enough Till now - but I feel and fear they just ignore it and he sings „normal“ also in the Final Musical Performance what would be a absolute pity.
I was so excited to hear my cousin was going to be joining the German cast of Hamilton as Lafayette/Jefferson. That whole cast is so talented and hearing Hamilton in German seems to hit differently but in the best of ways ❤️😁
I saw the show in german last week and had a blast. The cast was spectacular, and the translation is truly a work of art. I saw the alternate Hamilton, Diluckshan, not Benet who is in the vodeo here though. It's very sad that the german showrunners, stage entertainment, seem to be somehow at fault for the short running time, the show will close in October. There even is a #savehamilton petition. It's a pity. I did buy tickets for the very last show on the train back, so there's that 😢
My daughter is half German, half American. She was the one who first introduced me to Hamilton and though we are currently estranged, I currently am listening with tears streaming down my face, hoping one day I can share this with her.
Damn you! Up until 10 minutes ago I lived in blissful ignorance of the fact that there was going to be a German adaption of Hamilton. Now my wallet is complaining as I had to buy a ticket. Because of course.

I’m so amazed at how far the musical has reached. Schools don’t generally teach about who Alexander Hamilton was which is sad it’s like they’re trying to forget one of the founding fathers. Not many documentaries even mention Alexander Hamilton. I’m so glad that Lin-Manuel created this musical I’m sure that Alexander Hamilton and the other Hamiltons would be happy. Now everyone knows about who Alexander Hamilton is.

Nope, they actually added in some jokes. Like in "The schuyler sisters", Burr talks about how he'd drink Angelica's Bath water. Really, i'm not making this up. I think it was in the "your perfume smells like your daddy got money" part of the song
Though I speak zero German, I have been following the productions of Hamilton Deutsch and Die Eiskönigin (Frozen) with amazement at the beauty of German.
I think the translation is way better than I thought it would be. I still like the original version more, but that just Lin-Manuel Miranda’s absolute genius making the rhyme patterns sound way cooler in English
Listening to music in German, especially musicals, is my favorite way to learn more German. If you are interested in the language, listen to Elisabeth. It was written in German and has no English version (to the best of my knowledge).
The translation is really good Props to the guys that did it Just the fact that some of these voices remind me of cartoon characters in German won't leave my mind is bothering me 😅
I would love to hear the whole musical in German. I am trying to learn German and I know all the lyrics. Unfortunately German is not an option for the musical on Disney plus

Dont like the voice for the German Hamilton but every other voice fits perfectly. I surprisingly think it lost very little in translation; it sounds really good❤
I think when it comes to translations like this you have to find a balance between correctness, sound and rhyme. If they had put more focus on rhyme density, I'm pretty sure it would have sounded weird because German is already a language that tends to have longer words/more syllables. And since Hamilton is such a rythmic musical, i understand why they focused on keeping the rythm as best as possible while sacrificing the rhyme scheme

Yeah there are some fails but in all I belive they did a great Job I mean I could imagin some much easyer things then translaiting Hamilton espacilly into our hard german language, but I see youre point!
