Of course The Walkmen was much more of a groundbreaking act than the stuff Hamilton does now (principally their first two albums), but "I Had a dream" is an incredible album, with an amazing reunion of all the styles the guy likes, and the way he and Rostam made it sound fresh and engaging is so cool that I think it competes very well with some of The Walkmen"s best stuff.
What a great performance! I love the walkmen but also love hamilton's solo work, i think he's a great writer and in his last work, Rostam gives him a level like the greatest the walkmen's récords.

I think I understand what you mean. The massive experimentarion that their first 3 albums have, althouht great records, kinda show how each member of the band had very different goals in music. I think that's why The Walkmen was so amazing. Like, if you hear the Recoys album (the band Hamilton had before The Walkmen), you can hear his love for 50's and 60's pop/blues/country stuff, that really shows up on The Walkmen's music, but with all the other member's stuff too. And here on his solo work we can all see his freedom of focusing on the things he likes to do more.
