I just want to thank you for the work you all are putting into this channel. I know that creating an academics-based RU-vid channel can present itself as daunting, (Especially when Khan and Crash Course are very dominant) but I appreciate it so much. It is obvious that this channel is passionate about what it is doing and I will be following and recommending you guys to my friends!

You, guys, are really good. I love and enjoy your presentations so much! I'm also glad to see how some young people are able to appreciate and take the time to thoroughly study Shakespeare's rich and wonderful world; your enthusiasm is contagious and very helpful for many, I'm sure. Thanks a lot for the work.

I think my English teacher would love this... I'll share it with her when I remember since nearly no other analysis covers the political aspect of it all in the correct timeframe of the play...

Also, you mentioned that in Elizabethan society, incestuous relationships were frowned upon. I was under the impression that the throne was maintained via incestuous relationships to keep blood pure? Were incestuous relationships only allowed to happen for royalty?

1. “This time period” is NOT 1600 when “Hamlet” was first performed. The play is set in the 14th/15th century, so the laws/customs/rules of the contemporary audience don’t apply. Shakespeare is making it up-the incestuousness/illegality of the Claudius-Gertrude marriage is deliberately ambiguous throughout the play. 2. Claudius isn’t referring to a person who advised him to marry Gertrude-the “you” is the collective family, government, and by extension the nation-state. It’s like “Denmark encouraged me to marry Gertrude as it was obviously the right thing for Denmark.” Nobody thinks there is a specific person or group that made a specific advisement at a particular moment.
