There are plenty of options for choosing a suitable competition gun. But it begins with the action type and in this video... I discuss the pros and cons of using a Striker or Hammer Fired pistol. I even expand on Double Action/Single Action (DA/SA) and Single Action Only (SAO).

Good video. I’ve bounced around. Started with Glocks, which Id been running for more than two decades and had extensive training with. Tried DA/SA Berettas and then LEM P30s, but at that point in my life I didn’t have the time to devote to mastering the DA and just couldn’t run them as well as my Glocks (although I got very comfortable with the LEM P30 and grew to really like it). In October of last year, I finally settled on the M&P platform with an Apex trigger. For me personally (and this is all personal preference) I’ve found this to be the right fit. I’d still be quite comfortable with my old Glocks or my Langdon P30s, but the M&P is growing on me. Every shooter is different and everyone has different preferences. I like to run platforms that I can carry. And I like to run platforms that are low maintenance and can take abuse. IDPA is the only thing that interests me. If things were different, I might consider something else. But I’ve really discovered that it’s training and range time that makes someone a better shooter. I’ve got some nice guns (steel framed Walthers, Langdon Berettas), but I feel most comfortable with either a Glock or, increasingly, an M&P-purely due to round counts on those platforms.

I am a beginner IPSC shooter, I have Shadow 2, but planning to buy CZP10F for IDPA. I've specifically targeted striker fired gun to have variety. In my country, I haven't even seen the Walther, and beside Glock, all other guns are way expensive to be considered (striker fired Berreta is in range of Shadow 2, similar for SIGP320), so it narrows down choice to CZs and Glocks. I would like to own 2011 one day, super looking gun. It will probably be Bul Armory 5 inch.

I have both. Hammered fired guns ate generally nicer shooting guns imo. The best pistol I have shot to date is my Masterpiece Arms DS9 Hybrid. It is a dream to shoot. I love everything about it. Holy smokes is it accurate with a sweet trigger!!!

I run a Cz p10c for idpa. I did buy a Mac 9 ds to get into the 2011 game and I absolutely love how it shoots. I may end up throwing that into my idpa rotation. But…..my p10c is what I carry daily and shoot the most.

Good video thanks! I'm generally a hammer type, but nothing wrong with some strikers those heavy walthers look excellent and rival s is amazing. CZ is so good to me not sure the SAO double stack 1911s/2011s really do anything beyond the CZ but guess I need more rounds on both to finalize that decision. Stunned you have 50k plus striker and 60-70k hammer/sao that is awesome; I have real rookie numbers in comparison I need to jack up my round count way higher!

I run a modified Prodigy (saved a couple hundred off going with BUL, and mags are cheap), a PDP, and I EDC a P365 with a Shalotek XLC slide and Wilson XL module. I will probably be swapping the PDP with the new Smith M&P 2.0 model that was just unveiled.

I had a couple generations of family members that served and shot recreationally. By default it's a hammer fired gun. I own striker fired guns bc optics mounting on a K or N frame Smith is meh. I'm not milling old Colts for an optic or trying to shoot much Singlestack or Limited anymore. It is fun to take guns meant for bullseye or bowling pins out for a spin recreationally.

In general, it's a good video. I know you have a video covering Limited Optics. However, you could have specifically stated that single action can be run in the USPSA Limited optics without having to run in open, which was created so the single action doesn't need to run against race guns. And, you can stick a magwell on the CZ or striker and run Limited optics if you want.

Which return spring have you used to take the Walther Performance Trigger to 2-2.5lbs? I installed the Sprinco trigger kit and it’s at 3.5lbs, would love to take it to 2lbs for my IDPA CO gun. Added value content, thank you. Love your channel 👊

With the setup you’ve got… I’ve gotten it to a solid 3lbs with just polishing the plunger and trigger bar. But… the Walther triggers (stock at least) start to get hung up on the safety detent and don’t really work after that. So how I got it 2lbs (keyword was reliable and safe)… was using a return spring from a guy I found on the forums who sold extra power extractor springs. He had made a setup that got to 2.5lbs with the Overwatch trigger (mind the Dynamic Trigger wasn’t out yet back then)… so he hesitantly sold me some as he felt confident I wouldn’t I screw it up lol. Then the dynamic trigger came out about 6 months later. So the issue was it wouldn’t work at first… and this is big… but you would have to remove the safety detent spring and cut coils until you can get the safety to engage properly without hanging up (and yes I refused to grind the detent)… this was a little easier on Over watch triggers because it was a simple pin… Walthers requires drilling very carefully to where you drill just enough of the side to have the shroom cap loosen up and the pin fall out and you can goto work then… use red loctite to put back together (the pin and cap part). It’s not a bolt in operation… but that’s how it’s done!

@@TheGentlemanGunner just saw the second paragraph when I got back home. You put the time to help me, really appreciate that, thank you! The second part is way above my gunsmith abilities. I’ll do the polishing part and hope to get to 3lbs and call it good.

I've watched a ton of videos and listened to a lot of people talk. There is a lot of overlap, there isn't very much that one type can do that the other type can't do. It seems to me that one type is finely made, heavy and expensive, the other type is plastic, lighter and cheaper. If you want to shoot fast, most people pick striker fired but some people shoot fast with hammers. The other differentiating factor is accuracy- the striker fired guns are not typically as accurate. I don't think this has anything to do with the striker, it has to do with how cheaply that class of guns is manufactured. The people who shoot striker fired are shooting in a way that accuracy doesn't matter. In any shooting discipline that requires accuracy people are almost universally using only hammer fired guns.
@TheGentlemanGunner
@TheGentlemanGunner 17 дней назад
@@billj5645 I’d expand on accuracy with a differentiation in precision. From my experience, I can squeeze 2-3” group out of a G45 @ 15yds (slow-fire)… but my MPAs (SAO/Hammer) can stack rounds at 15yds. Both are considered accurate, but one is more precise than the other. To dive a little further, precision from a mechanical perspective is produced from both the barrels design, weight (stabilizing), and the quality of the action. Very tough to get most striker-fired guns to get their action to not have any inhibiting factors disrupting the movement largely as they’re design to defeat 3 safeties simultaneously. 2011s and most hammer fired guns typically have other safeties defeated beforehand (thumb/grip safety) enabling simpler movement and therefore less variables when pulling the trigger. Good thoughts… maybe I might make a tech video on this one day.
