The mission of a band to record a cover like this is not to do a better version than the original. It is to honor the original band and to please the fans giving their performance of classic tune. Unfortunately, people turns everything into a competition. This is an amazing performance for those who admire Hammerfall and Kai Hansen. It is all that matters for me.
When I was in highschool and we had to run 5 miles I always put this song on, it pushed me to the limit. Now 7 years later I've finally broken free and I finally feel the way a human should feel. Free of all limitations, free of everything, I'm free to do what I want when I want how I want but of course I'm only gonna do it,if I feel like it, but if I feel like something's worth doing then I'll keep pushing but on a steady level. I like this way of living.
I'm 19, just finished high school, and I'm kinda trapped right now. I want to be free too. But the pressure is too strong. I don't know what I want to do with my life. Actually, I just wanna be free and live my life alone. The way I see it, the way I need it. Not how someone else tells me to live it. I want to be free of stupid human standards, stupid human guidelines, laws, all of human bullshit. I want them to leave me alone, so that I can be free.
Guys Kai Hanson wrote it and actually did all the original vocals on it before they put micheal kiske's vocals kai's vocals on this version sounds like his vocals from 1988 but a half step down, that he must have reused, as this track, was recorded at his then Hansen studio, which was gamma rays original studio, and out of everyone I have heard sing this track I prefer kai's vocals and Ralph sheepers vocals.
I see a lot of confusion regarding this cover, this was a collab between Gamma Ray and Hammerfall, the "official" video for the song is actually footage of all the band mebers of both bands Gama Ray and Hammerfall (and also UDO did backing vocals) recording the song at the studio and just having a good time, Kai played the guitar, keyboards and did some singing, but i think most of the vocal parts come from Joacin. I believe the rest of the instruments are the guys from Hammerfall alone, in the video Henjo has a cast on his hand, and Dirk is in the video but is never seen playing, and Dan Zimmerman (Gamma's drummer at the time) isn't there at all. There's also a slightly longer version of the video, around 5:30 minutes, it features all the guys getting ready and rehearsing the song, mostly vocals.
Who is here after finding out about Hammerfall/Helloween European tour? Never seen either band's shows, but I'm definitelly seeing them next year, already saving up money. Who's with me?
Agree Kai back then had a great voice, and Kai was the best voice helloween and gamma ray ever had and only Ralph sheepers could sing this song and many others as well and energetically and powerfully as kai
I hate to burst people's bubble but Kai started along with piet seilk helloween and was the original vocalist along with piet seilk of that band after piet left and reformed the band with weiki replacing piet after that Kai took over all lead vocals, until micheal kiske joined in December 1986, for the keepers albums, and for those who think kiske sang originally classic songs like ride the sky and how many tears they are wrong as well Kai sang them on the walls of Jericho album.
Correct Kai wrote it and sang all the original vocals on the helloween version as well before kiske's lead vocals were overdubbed on the original, and on this version it sounds like kai's lead vocals from 1988 reused but a half step down as it was recorded at his studio.
It's a cover, but at the same time, they had Kai Hansen who wrote this song in the studio with them, he plays the guitar and sing half the song... It's like a 2.0 of the song. Gamma Ray and Hansen rulz.
I Want Out by Helloween is the most influential song you never heard I think. I mean every New Wave of Power Metal band holds this song as a standard, and they’ve all played it live and some have recorded it. And it’s never been on the radio lol! Metallica before they were famous, King Diamond, Slayer, etc all got played on the radio atleast once on some station at 10 o’clock at night. Even Helloween did (the Halloween edit got some play) but not this song yet it lives.
