subscribed: Thanks for including the STATION NAMES as well.

William H. Baird I’m glad you appreciate the station names being added in. I watched so many cab rides on RU-vid before taking my own they where fab to start with. Then with in minutes of watching them and stations coming by and going I got so confused as to where the train was or had been. So I had decided when I do my own cab ride videos I’d add in the station names not just for my own benefit but also for people like you the viewer. I’m very glad they helped you out and that you also enjoyed them.

Re: Liverpool St. The site where the building on the left is, there used to be a bay platform. It was used by trains to and from Amersham.

It seems that some of the platforms are too short for a longer train with more carriages to stop, like Baker Street. I experienced such problems when filming the DLR cab ride videos. When stopping at some stations like Elverson Road, the broadcast said that "The first and last doors of the train will not open." So I added such notice into my DLR Timelapse video (but in Chinese).

At 16:00, you mention the oldest part of the network being King's Cross to Faringdon. Until recently, the oldest part of the Underground would have been Brunel's Thames Tunnel on the East London Line (predating the Metropolitan), but presumably this doesn't count anymore because it's on the Overground.
@joeymandrews
@joeymandrews 3 года назад
Hi there, hopefully I can help you with this one! The line between Kings Cross and Farringdon is indeed the oldest part of the Underground network. Construction of the world's first underground passenger railway began in 1860, and opened in 1863 as the Metropolitan Railway, running between Paddington and Farringdon (part of todays Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Lines). Construction on Brunel's Thames Tunnel took place between 1825 and 1843, and was designed for horse-drawn carriages but instead was used by pedestrians. In 1869 (6 years after the first section of today's Underground opened), the Thames Tunnel was converted into a railway tunnel for use by the East London Railway, which itself was absorbed into London Underground, where it became the East London Line. In 2010, the Thames Tunnel became part of the London Overground network... and was no longer a London Underground line... even though the Thames Tunnel does run "underground". Confused yet??? There is some confusing history there, but if I try to put it more simply: The oldest part of the Underground between Paddington and Farringdon (the world's first underground railway), has remained operational as a railway ever since its opening in 1863. Even though the Thames Tunnel is 20-38 years older than the oldest section of the London Underground (the Metropolitan Railway), the Thames Tunnel was opened as a pedestrian tunnel but didn't become a railway tunnel until 6 years after the Metropolitan Railway opened. Hopefully that little history lesson didn't bore you, but hopefully it cleared things up for you 😁😁😁

20:58 "The OVERGROUND is UNDER us?!" To quote Geoff Marshall in his video about Secrets of the District Line (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZjMroHF1ZvU.html): "At Whitechapel it's really confusing because its the only place where Underground trains run OVER the Overground trains and Overground trains run UNDER the Underground trains... I'm so confused!" 🤯😂🤣

Why does London not have completely driverless trains yet? Here in Vancouver we've had them since 1986! Nice video. Iwas in London in 1990 & probably took this line from King's Cross to Paddington to catch the Cornish Riviera. Cheers, Don
@billymillest1529
@billymillest1529 6 лет назад
don town we do have the DLR that is totally driverless. Lots of lines in London have drivers but with automatically driven trains the driver is their for safety to take over if things go wrong and to open and close doors and start the trains. I think most people would be totally freaked out or stop using the trains if they went completely driverless with no driver at all. If the Underground did go that way it would go in the way of a DLR with still a member of staff on each train. On the DLR they have what is know as a train captain he can take over power of trains if they get a fault or at busy times control the stopping times better or drive the trains
@thesalandarian3314
@thesalandarian3314 4 года назад
don town dlr, Victoria etc driverless but with an operator
@Boomslang1
@Boomslang1 Год назад
Because London Underground wasn't purpose built like other newer Metros, it just sort came into existence with the composite join-up of disparate lines. Driverless trains will not happen in the next 20 years, if at all.
