Sometimes you have to just sit back and enjoy your surroundings. Let the radio sit silent, set aside all the chores and work involved with radio- camping. And enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.... On several trips to the woods I would just sit comfortably, quietly and watch nature do it’s thing.. Whitetail Deer would come into camp and feed on a particular kind of leaf. Not more than 10 or 20 feet from me. ( 3 to 6 meters) Canada Geese in the early morning, Owls and even Bats at night. Playing Radio is nice.... But Nature is even nicer... Rained on me early in the morning this weekend just after setting my tent...... No Problem! Just waited for it to pass before setting up the radio gear.... Turned out to be a beautiful weekend.
Grim weather Carl, but well done! It’s like us in the caravan with the tv volume on 100 when it’s lashing down. Only to forget the next morning when you turn it on again 😱
Hi Carl, nice video I enjoyed your setup in the rain and the fact that you were able to setup in the rain, and relax was great to see. You really know how to enjoy amateur radio no matter what the conditions are, great job and thank you for sharing.
wow, well done with sticking with the radio in such inclement conditions. Really enjoy your videos, i'm still getting into going out with the radio, but going out in the conditions your experienced really shows commitment !
Next time Carl...drop down the sides steeper and guy them out to lightweight steaks like MSR Groundhogs, tighter and steeper Apex to the tarp and it will mean less splashing. Great effort
Excellent and enjoyable video that was. I have used a portable super antenna in the woods down in the New Forest. Reception was pretty good but no contacts made, quite frustrating but I suppose understandable.
hey mark, i tried my alex loop from bolderwood ! similary, on an ic-705 i didnt make a contact quite yet, but it was my first time 'out' /P. I just love the New Forest away from the QRM ! hope to catch you in the logbook :) 73 2E0FWE.
@@alzeNL cheers! Yes, New Forest a nice getaway! I do have a 10m efhw made from a DX Commander pole to try. Used it in garden and its noisy compared to my horizontal wire, but still efficient. Would not use in woods, but would be nice to try in the open areas, as you say ... away from QRM. Catch you soon on bands.. M7MSR
Hi Carl, A question? Have you had much luck making contacts running your Super Antenna using QRP power? First off I find the thing a total pain In tuning. I use the supplied ground radials and never even get close to a decent VSWR using that little “ Tuning Gage” they give you. Made my own radials, and still have a time in tuning that thing in. Have to use my antenna analyzer every time. Can hear stations but very difficult to work them... My home brew Inverted “V” does much better. To the point I don’t even use the Super Antenna anymore.
Compromised antennas make it much more challenging to make voice contacts as many people can't hear you against their noise levels and other stronger stations. I have better luck on 17m and 10m with coils, 20m on a lucky day. This type of set up is better for data modes/weak sig modes.
Thanks Carl..... Think I’m going to try my portable Yagi next time.... It’s good from 40 meters all the way to 6 meters. It’s called the YP-3 and was made by Super Antenna as well. Unfortunately they no longer make it, but might be available on eBay if your interested..... Right now I’m using it at my home QTH. Il have to put it back in to portable operation and get something else for home....
Open your voice volume out portable enjoy radio , shouldn’t have almost heard me you can do it . Sorry but more weather than radio , trying not too be negative . 👍👍
