The romantic and nostalgic in you WANT the B3 to sound better...even before you've heard a single sound from the XK5. Btw. "digital" is not a dirty word!
Claudius Have to remember, the new digital instrument can be finetuned in just any way you like. Most clone organs sound brighter than a real B3 out of the box. I will bet that the XK-5 can be fine tuned against any given B3 thru the same leslie, so that only a few people beside the owner of the real B3 can hear the difference in a blind test. Wish I had the money for this thing. The XK-1c is fair instrument if you only play few organ parts on a gig, but just having a 1 manual version that have a full keybed and drawbars makes a hella difference Great instrument .. and great demo
Even with a professional organist that can fine tune these new hammonds to sound like the old Hammonds you can still hear the digital part of the organ in it. It's hard to tell depends on who is at the Hammond playing and how well they know how to fine tune the knobs and settings.
Wish more current players would remember how these machines can growl in the lower registers. Seems that most prefer to work in the higher tones. Guess I just prefer the tone range I was raised on :) What a piece of machinery the XK5 appears to be! Will need to win the lotto :)
kukrae Give it a few years and get one on ebay. If hammond had better pricing the real Hammond/Leslies wouldn't beat them out as much in my genre, that is.
Yes, it is part of the new digital hammond line by Suzuki. Hammond got bankrupt at the end of the 70's and it was recently resurrected by Suzuki, which makes these new hammond digital organs, making them like the originals would be crazy for today's market but they do replicate it very well!
