I was getting a loud howl from the organ only while the volume was switched to "normal" and with the volume pedal increasing above half way depressed. Many thanks to Hammond lovers Lyle and Benson for giving me the confidence and some important knowledge needed to do the work and especially to Time Dietz who came to the door with tools! Maybe this rescue operation will help someone in my situation someday.

My '57 C3 produced a very similar noise when I increased the volume level. When I got most of the old caps replaced within the tube preamp the organ sounded much better and the noise was gone. The guys from Tonewheel General Hospital are just great (I also bought the can caps there). At that point I decided to go all the way, replaced all tubes as well and got the tone generator caps replaced (with some recalibration). Now, the organ is way louder, sounds brighter and more powerful than ever.

Clipping the legs of the capacitors was suggested by TWGH? Also, why did you decide not to remove the big white capacitor?

Hi there thanks for the video. Would you mind to share the schematics that you have. I want to do this mod too. Thanks

Thanks for sharing I'm looking to do the same soon. What year organ? I haven't seen one with wood cheek blocks and a pilot light before

1957. This one had some work done by a Hammond tech in the 70's where they added the pilot light.

Very informative. I'm going to be doing a similar fix to my B3. What is the Hammond support group that you mentioned? Thank you!

@@patroche1266hi there! Sorry I missed your post on the Hammond network page. I was going to say that the feedback your organ exhibited at the beginning sounds very much like the kind I've run into as of late, all of a sudden coming from the matching transformers in the organ... For some reason some nearly seventy years after they're original issue, These transformers have decided to become microphonic on a lot of organs... And last I checked there's not a great deal of information about why or even what to do. I'm hoping that you were able to solve your problem. I'm one of the more knowledgeable hammond techs in the midwest and I've not come across any definitive treatment for that yet, aside from costly replacement of the transformers.

@@karijohartmann2649 thanks for the comment. Fortunately this was one of the caps we replaced. Ya, sounds like the magnet would not work on tight wound, enclosed transformers so i believe that. Fingers crossed i dont have to deal with that any time soon. Aside from finding them, those might be easier to replace than those can caps though, right? Two wires? And whatever mounting situation..
