I was born in 1940, spent my entire childhood roaming the heath, at the time I knew every nook & cranny, as did most of the other 'vagabond' free roaming local kids in those days !!! We all had far more freedom than my own children ever got - mainly on weekends or holiday days just disappearing in the morning with a snack & with strict instructions to be 'back by tea time' (around 5.0pm in most households). I remember Kenwood House very well, altho I have never been inside. Wonderful memories of the times when the fair came to the heath too, and dibbling in those ponds for tadpoles, and the zoo down at the bottom end of the heath, and Gospel Oak Lido - an open air swim pool ! I had a lovely childhood !

I believe the zoo was in the part called Golders Hill Park, which I think was an extension of the heath, I know it seemed like miles of greenery at the time, haven't seen it in at least 65 years so I am out of date with the map in my head now !

This is truly lovely and you seem like a lovely person, I was in the UK over a week ago but next time I go to the UK, I will visit Hampstead Heath. May I ask what kind of camera you were using?
